When the new Apple TV drops, I can envisage them creating iPhone/iPodTouch/iPad apps, which can talk over Bluetooth to the dedicated Apple TV box in the living room.
If the camera records video, it would be a requirement (both front and rear-facing cameras). With iMovie and FaceTime, it's hard for Apple not to bring the iPod touch more in line with the iPhone 4's feature set.I can't wait for September.
Does this mean a microphone as well?

The article yes, but not the iPod.What do you mean? It's from May 2010.
Sorry to rain on everyone's parade.
Face Time, even over wifi, needs a phone number to reach in order to facilitate a connection between of device to another remote device.
Unless Apple plans on distributing iPod's with SIM cards and purchasing large blocks of phone number's essentially turning itself into the business of "carrier", it's not going to happen.
The current iPod touch ships with mic-equipped earbuds.Kinda hard to do Facetime without a microphone - unless you do sign language like in Apple's demo.
If this is real, it looks like the "retina display" is out (atleast for some models). The "retina display" LCD and digitizer glass are built as a single piece.
I would be interesting to see a standard display for the entry level and a RD for the high end model.
No it doesn't. Pull out your SIM card from your iPhone 4. Find a contact in your address book who has an iPhone 4. Click on the FaceTime button. Enter FaceTime.
Did you really think Apple would create a "wifi-only" standard that needs "other non-wifi" things to use?
but how will face time work wit a ipod touch what will u use to contact the other person, they cant use a phone number. Maybe they will use email address instead of a phone #, actually even better maybe they will use game center for facetime. because u use your apple user name, it will serve as a good "phone number" substitute.

I don't want to pay the voice and data fees. Hopefully I can keep an iPod Touch w/camera longer than all of my previous iPods. I tend to get bored with gadgets.I'm definitely looking forward to this. Will be selling my 3G Touch for a 4G.
Eidorian, I thought you didn't like mobile devices?

Well it's currently set up to only work with people who have phone numbers, true -- but it does NOT need to work over cellular lines. Try using FaceTime when both phones are on airplane mode but on wifi (you can initiate a FaceTime call through the FaceTime button in someone's Contacts entry). It works! Apple just needs to incorporate this capability into iChat or something, and allow user IDS that aren't phone numbers to "call." No SIM cards required.
What problems would those be? I have not problems. The iPod touch is my favorite apple product. All the cool stuff of the iPhone without any of the phone specific problems.![]()
Really? You haven't learned that some will update every new product.... Not very observant are you?I don't understand what benefit it would be to Apple if they DIDN'T include facetime on their new iPods. Who would purchase/upgrade in that case if there's no increase in capacity nor facetime capability?
Kickin' rad! I doubt there will be face time (why get an iPhone?), but the foreword camera is a p. cool feature.
