it seems as if Apple's new/big products have been delayed lately.

i.e.
MacBook Pro re-designs
iPhone 4S launch date
iTunes Match
Mac App Store Sandboxing
Mac Pro updates
all iPods

wtff? laggin...

You're not making any sense.

The MacBook pro will not be redesigned until there is a new chipset out (Ivy Bridge). What exactly is late based on what?

The mac pro cannot be updated until intel releases sandy bridge E CPUs.

Why do people post such uniformed tripe? What's the satisfaction? The majority of these products have had no official announcements so how can they be behind schedule? Based on rumours such as this? Laughable.

As a photographer, I'm waiting for an iPad that is capable of running Aperture for iOS and with enough resolution to display stunning photos to clients on the go. The next iPad may seem like the one to deliver if it comes with an A6 chip and retina display.

iPad is shifting from a consumption device to also one of content creation. The timing is ripe for an iPad 3 capable of doing just that.

I anticipate that the iPad 2 will continue to be sold in 2012 at a lower price alongside the iPad 3. Apple may be a secretive company, but they're also quite predictable. This model has been followed with the iPhone and the iPad is matching that trend.
You are also looking forward to larger storage options as 64GB and Aperture won't do if you are a professional photographer who processes thousands of pictures.

If they release Aperture for iPad it will almost obsolete my iMac and I will use it only for PHP programming.

Apple's original plan might have been to release iPad 3 with retina display in March/April 2012. However, the production issues in retina displays might cause unpredictable changes to their original plans.

Apple could sell the current iPad 2 until they get enough retina displays to release iPad 3. If Samsung/etc can't give any exact time frame for mass production of retina displays, Apple could release a minor iPad update in Marc/April 2012 to keep the product "fresh" until the retina display production issues are solved.

This x 1m. A mbp redesign was never due this year.

Only the iPhone had a peculiarly long gap, with a few pretty like speculations as to why - realign to a more favourable schedule, the move to a gsm/CDMA hybrid and ios5.

I like MacRumors, but you really need to pay attention to the second word and apply a little common sense to filter the "real" rumours(I'm from England, hence the spelling) and the speculative bunk that some mates girlfriends uncle has come up with.

the supposed next iPad will be released in March. which is considered the end of Q1 2012. Your saying Apple will then release a brand new iPad in July-September time frame? Thats a marketing failure if I could ever see one and I am a Graphic Design major, this rumor just makes no sense.

The iPad 4 will just be a screen surrounded by a 0.1mm thin aluminum unibody. The chipsets, battery, memory...everything...will be in the Cloud.

Yeah that's right...I just invited another freakin' dimension to the party....

I happen to agree.
I think it would be perfectly acceptable for Apple to release the iPad 3 in early Q3 while ramping up production in late Q2. There's no need for another iPad iteration to fill the time.

On-again, off-again, industry publication Digitimes is claiming that Apple's next iPad will enter mass production soon and will launch in March 2012. The catch is that according to their sources, this new iPad product is not seen by Apple as an iPad 3, but instead an upgraded iPad 2. Instead they say "the real iPad 3" won't be launched until the 3rd quarter of 2012 at the earliest.

The publication provides no distinction as to what qualifies as a "real iPad 3", but does claim that this interim iPad 2 upgrade will be thinner than the iPad 2 and offer longer battery life.

The most obvious distinction, though not mentioned in the article, could come from the use of a ultra-high resolution Retina display. Talk of a such a display has been ongoing for months, but the most recent reports indicate that Apple's suppliers are finding it challenge to produce such high density displays.

Digitimes has been particularly prolific in the past year with their rumors, but have become particularly spotty in their accuracy. While plans could have obviously changed, their previous iPad 3 report claimed a Fall 2011 launch. So, take this new report with some skepticism. That said, an ultra high resolution iPad-sized Retina display could easily be the production bottleneck for Apple's plans.

Or they can sell iPad 2 some more and then ...

This is not the type of trash that is meant to be recycled. Why is this idiotic rumor of two iPads in one year popping up again...except to fill empty space. Wasn't it roundly destroyed this year? Unicorns.

Forget about history, it would not make financial sense for Apple to "reset" the iPad launch period to fall now that it's fairly clear the iPhone will now take over for the iPod in the fall. Apple has to spread these expensive products out so consumers can better justify owning both. It would be hard to ask consumers to buy both an iPhone and iPad in the same quarter.

Also Apple needs fresh product in all quarters to even out financial reports. It can't just have one ginormous quarter and then 3 mediocre ones (mediocre for Apple, that is). Wall St. would pound the stock. It want's to see sequential quarter over quarter growth.

Remember when the iPad 3 was coming in the Fall of 2011? Yeah right...

rumours make bad lovers, as the song goes.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A334)

Seriously? Why do things like this get credibility? Look at the history, the next iPad will be a major upgrade, the iPad 2 was the minor upgrade and Apple will NEVER release two iPads in one year. The profit is much larger on a full year product run. Some of these rumours are so stupid.

How exactly was the ipad2 a minor upgrade ? I see people say this all the time and it makes no sense.

What could they have done, besides retina display, that would have been a "major upgrade" ?

Had a feeling this would happen. They're just trying to maximize their profits by using components they already have/have been able to acquire cheaper. Holding off new products like the real ipad3 and real iPhone 5 keeps let's them bring more dollar for an existing product line much like Nintendo. Somehow they've seen the success of this by throwing us a bone in the middle with just basically giving an update instead of an upgrade. Happens to their computer lines all the time and it seems like they want their iPhone/iPad to head in that direction.

What will this bring?
iPad 2s
- amazing Siri
- same case design, but lighter
- processor bump? Mmm... Nope
- retina display!? Mmm... No again
- Siri!

Unfortunately im beginning to think that Steve did give apple 4 years worth of products, but Tim Cook is gonna try to stretch that to 8 years with these incremental updates.

Let's see… iPhone moved to September, perhaps because new iPods just aren't ringing the holiday sales quarter bells like they used to.

That leaves a hole in the mid-year release cycle. What's the hot new thing to boost sales mid-year? Could it be the unstoppable iPad? In plenty of time for 'back to school' as well. Shiny new iPad?

Eschew any 2 iPads in a year rumour. That's just silly. Next model iPad in Mid year to take the place of iPhone? Much more likely

because every year with steve jobs brought amazing new redesigns and products

No retina = no buy for me. I'm probably not alone.

No, you are not alone. I was really hoping the next version would have a better resolution. It's the reason I haven't bought one.

When I go to the Apple store and play with the iPads, I'm disappointed in the screen resolution. I have been using the retina display for so long now, it is hard to use anything less.

I'm skeptical. It's not like Apple to release a product before it's ready, and it's unlikely they'd release two revisions of the same product in such a short span.

How many times is this same stupid rumor going to be recycled?
For the hundredth time, Apple doesn't do stuff like that!
PERIOD!
They do. Take a look at the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. They're just spec bumps. Same with the 3G and the 3GS.

iPad 2 Refresh =

Faster processor
Sizes 32/64/128GB
Much better camera
Bluetooth 4.0
Siri
Q1 2012

iPad 3 =

Quad Core processor
Retina Display
LTE World Cellular
Every model has Cellular
2013

Possibly but they would be better calling it Ipad 3 anyway or just delay the release like Iphone 4S.

I'm sure 90% of people who already own an Ipad 1 or 2 won't want to upgrade until the screen goes retina.

Yes they would be much better to hold off they could easily update the Ipad 2 with better software and maybe add Siri?

Also talk of the device being "thinner"? I'm not to keen on those paper thin designs from Microsoft of the vision of the future. I quite liked Ipad 1 for being quite thick I like Ipad 2 aswell but if they drop the thickness how can they fit in a retina? I would have thought adding a retina display would add thickness? So surely it would be an achievement to fit a retina into the current design?

+2

I've got over $1,200 in Apple gift cards just waiting to be used. They don't expire. When an iPad has retina display, I will finally get one. But until then, I'll just wait. No big deal. 2012, 2013... Whenever. It will happen.
