If they keep the same size screen, I'll be moving on. It's too small. Hopefully they're not that stupid.

Personally I'd be disappointed if the screen weren't 4 inches. LTE is kind of cool, but I spend so much of my life in wifi range that it just isn't going to get me excited about a new iPhone. But a little extra real estate on that screen sure would.

Personally... I like your Avatar! ;)

And screw the new mini-dock connector! ;)

New dock connector means my relatively new sound systems, 2 of them, will become obsolete. I hope when the iPhone 5 is released they offer the 4s cheap - but I just can't get by with 8GB (they way they downgrade the previous models to leverage people into the new ones). I am surprised they didn't do that to the iPad2 - $399 for 8gb.

Also, I was hoping for 4"

This is all still rumors and we have plenty of time to sift through those

Needs a bigger screen. The iPhone looks dwarfed next to competitors. With all the multitasking, new apps like garageband, iPhoto, we need every half inch we can get.

Well there's definitely a tension of usability between apps and being a phone that doesn't feel ridiculous when you hold it up to your ear. IMO apps like Garageband and iPhone are really made for the iPad; that they happen to also run on the iPhone is just a handy bonus. Most of the apps I use on my iPhone are for communication, reference, and utility tasks. I think for those tasks, the current form factor is fine.

It would be nice to get some sort of touch area at the top or bottom for global system gestures, and perhaps a small separate screen area to display notifications. I think notifications is one place where the current iPhone size really falls down -- having messages pop up over buttons you were about to click is a real problem.

Eh, not too big of a deal. A phone is a phone. If you want a bigger screen, why compromise? Go for a tablet instead.

I don't believe this either. Why?

Because I think Apple is smart enough to understand the demand for a bigger screen. And I think they understand that a significant amount of their customers are on the brink when it comes to choosing an iPhone vs an android based on screen size.

I honestly think its a must that Apple ps the size of the screen. For every person that feels the screen should stay its current size, I think there is two who would prefer a bigger screen.

I tested Samsung Note today 5"

Perfect
No need for no any tablet never.
Thats why they wont give you bigger screens

10" pad? it is a joke

Buy new dock connectors they are just Amazing and better just 49,99 for some adapters you will be fine

LTE is reason enough for me to upgrade. I know many are pining for a complete redesign, but the current one is by far the best looking sexiest smartphone on hte planet in my opinion. No one comes close in build quality or materiel. The external antenna provides better reception than any previous model iPhone, and the glass front/back still looks so nice, even after 2 years. Part of me too likes the cool factor of a total redesign, but part of me says why change something so good. I could go for a 4in screen with higher resolution in similar form factor, LTE & quad core processor.

Yep, instead you'll want to get a dumbphone for those times you just aren't going to have anything to take that huge pad with you. For example in an interview where having a huge phone in your pocket of your interview suit is going to look really awkward (and worse to have a holster for it).

Sorry, the note would have been a great PDA but I would not want that thing replacing my cellphone. It is just too big to be able to (my cellphone has to be sized that I can take it everywhere, that thing really isn't).

I mean really, 4.5 is way overpushing it already. The note is ridiculous (and really only going to go for a niche crowd).

I could go for a 4in screen with higher resolution in similar form factor, LTE & quad core processor.

The whole point of the "Retina Display" marketing campaign was that the current resolution of the iPhone 4 and 4S is high enough that it is geometrically impossible for your eye to distinguish individual pixels when held a reasonable distance from your face. So higher resolution screen would be pointless.

A bigger screen might be nice, sure. But not higher resolution.

For me, the form factor is more important than the screen size or LTE. I would like something similar to a 3G or 3GS - I think those are more comfortable to hold. I hope they consider this when coming out with the next phone.

Really, other than wanting to slap AT&T for the network, I'm cool with the iPhone as is.

Increasing the size of the iPhone would be detrimental to form vs. function. If they increased the screen much, I would hope it is at the expensive of the bezel and not increasing the size of the entire iPhone.

BTW, it's funny that people are clinging to this rumor as true while it is a rumor. Who knows? The 4" rumor could be the REAL rumor... truth... that is a rumor at this time.

What's wrong with using two hands for certain smart phone functions? I understand why those with one hand would be concerned but why would the others? Making calls with one hand is not an issue even with big phones. For other functions - texting, browsing etc. just use two hands. Nowadays smart phones are used primarily for something other than voice calls. All those activities benefit immensely from having larger screen so the tradeoffs are skewed strongly towards larger larger screens.

What's wrong with having to use two hands is that it reduces the opportunities to use the device. Of course I use my iPhone with two hands when they are available, but I frequently have only one hand free, and I manage to do everything with one hand including pinch zooming (it helps that I have a grippy case). Though I have fairly long fingers, increasing the size would make this more difficult as my thumb doesn't reach that far past the opposite corner. Admittedly, I haven't spent a lot of time trying a bigger device, so maybe it's not that bad, but an argument for keeping it 3.5" can certainly be made.

A size increase would mean Apple would have to decide on what to do with the resolution. They could keep the same resolution, but that would decrease the pixels density. The could increase the resolution while maintaining the same pixels density, but that would mean current apps would only take up a portion of the screen and devs would have to account for yet another resolution if they want their apps to use the whole screen. Maybe they could use the extra space for some non-app functionality, but that seems unlikely. The only case I imagine they would do a size increase would be if they could double (quadruple pixel count) the screen resolution, but I don't think tech is there for that. I really don't think Apple is going to do a size increase in the next iPhone, because it's fraught with these issues and it's risky.

may move on

Well, my story is, I had an iPhone 4, and then didn't consider the 4S to be enough of an upgrade, so I didn't get that. Then in November my iPhone 4 stopped working out of warranty, so I moved on to a nice android with a larger screen and LTE.

So basically Apple lost my business last year, but I will be giving them one more chance this summer/fall. If they come out with a really nice upgraded phone, Apple will get my money again. If it's a 4SS, they have probably lost me as far as the phone market. I might think about an iPod touch for at home, but Android is moving on, and I don't think Apple can sit there and be on the same type of upgrade schedule as their iMacs/Macbooks in this smartphone market.

That's the key. You can make devices all sorts of different sizes. But the current iPhone is just right for one-handed use by a huge portion of the population. For two-handed use the iPad is also just right for a huge portion of the population. Anything in between would be too big for one-handed use and quite scrunched-up for optimal two-handed input, or would sell in smaller numbers only to people with really big or small hands.

There is one major flaw in this logic - the vast majority of population have two hands. Why would they worry about one handed use? It's like worrying about being able to ride a bike with one leg.

Yes, I have two hands. That doesn't mean I want to use both of them to work my phone.

Not sure how I feel about the smaller dock connector. One thing that makes up for the iPhone's poor battery is that I rarely have to take my charger around with me. Most people I know have either an iPod or an iPhone and therefore a charger for my phone. A minor grumble but I think I'd probably rather not have the micro dock connector.
