No way in hell will apple remove the lightening cable. They break constantly and apple are the only ones who sell them. I F#*KING HATE THAT CABLE!!!!

That's true enough. I've gone through 5 since the iPhone 5 launch.

The problem with the European common EPS is its micro usb-b on the device side and usb-a on the charger side (if detachable).

USB-C is not common EPS.

So the regulations will need to be rewritten for usb-c which goes against the entire point of the regulation. But I guess they could have 2 common EPS connectors.

It appears that an included adaptor is a work around for this regulation. And in my opinion it would be more profitable for Apple to include an adaptor for European models that way they can maintain their very profitable licensing agreements.

I don't want anyone to get me wrong though. I'm all for a standardized port just up until this point Lightning connector was better then micro usb-b. So if usb-c can do everything the lightning cable can do plus more AND be a standard I'm all for it!
I don't recall the details, but my understanding is that what Apple has been doing for a bit--including an adapter--isn't part of the regulation that is requiring bigger changes by 2017, which is different or at least beyond what has been required so far.

I don't want to say u wrong or u not saying truth ,but the whole problem isn't and wasn't with usb a or b ..
why u talking about these as this type of cable is just for printers? never seen usb -b designed for charging ?? :)
I think u made mistake ??

But to the point targeting mostly to c type..
Yes, usb 3.1 is not common YET of course it isn't as it is not properly released ..
Yes all EU things are rewritten every day.. but back in day (few years back) there was so so mess with these smartphone cables and mainly wall chargers!
nokia had different charger , sony had different, lg had different ,samsung blackberry etc.. and EU said enough and ruled out that there needs to be standard in smartphone segment with chargers because of environment and blah blah etc.. so many unused wall chargers left for recycle ..
So EU ruled ONE standard connector for smartphone chargers no any other ..
And this was it .., everybody, EVERY smartphone manufacturer in the world signed up for micro usb 2.0 as standard (by 2015) but unfortunately only one ''stucked up'' grumpy company (guess who), had to be exception, and refuse like naughty child.. So instead of implementing micro usb 2.0 they released adaptor micro usb to lightning..
OK that was kind of OK BUT they been/are so CHEEKY that instead of SUPPLYING this adaptor in every boxed unit, they unashamedly started selling this just adaptor for ridiculous rip off price !
This item supposed to be FREE !!
This is how apple disgusting are, money greedy, just for som fkin adaptor what people needed .. HORRIBLE !!
So.. we have now usb c here and it is now flippable same as lightning, so there is no any doubt why apple would NOT go with it .. and everybody in the world will be happy .. !
Don't know why some are obsessed with lightning when in reality it is just usb 2.0(kind of hybrid usb 2.0) still connecting it to your usb ports on laptops... lightning hasn't its original connector on other side of cable
And keeping lightning you would end up with usb 2.0 type ..

Honestly I'm not sure what you are saying. Micro usb-b to usb-a is the EU common EPS, its a standard USB cable that comes with most devices.

I don't know why you are mentioning printers and yes I obviously know the above cable can charge.

USB-C to USB-A (or C) is not EU common EPS.

Version specifications are mostly irrelevant because transfer speeds exceed what the phone is capable of anyway.

People obsessed over the Lightning connector similarly to how you are obsessing over USB-C. Think of it like this, Lightning connect IS usb-c it was just introduced to Apple users over 2 1/2 years ago. Where USB-C can excel is mostly irrelevant when connected to a phone like I mentioned.

Many people can't understand the benefits of NOT using a standard. Once a standard is set then limitations are set. Apple had no choice coming from the 30-pin connector but to go with another proprietary connector (Lightning). NOW usb-c is here and Apple could use it, whether they choose to or not we'll just have to wait and see.

Personally I'm ok with the lightning connector and I'm willing to bet most people here have more lightning cables laying around then USB-C cables so it actually benefits me to stay with Lightning. But like I previously mentioned I don't have a problem with Apple using a standard that is on par with what they currently have. By the time I get an iDevice that uses USB-C hopefully I'll already have some USB-C cables laying around.

Are they including an adaptor or just selling it exclusively? I was under the impression that the iPhone in EU was the same as we got in the states. I could be wrong about all that, its just my limited understanding on the subject and like most gov tech laws/rules/regulations they are convoluted at best.

Sorry I didn't see u saying micro thought u just saying usb-a and usb-b
had feeling u didn't include the WORD ''micro'' in your prev. post .. maybe u quickly corrected it?

''USB-C to USB-A (or C) is not EU common EPS''
Why it shouldn't be ? But it will be anyway so no need the mention as I ALREADY using it..

''Version specifications are mostly irrelevant because transfer speeds exceed what the phone is capable of anyway.''
Man this exceeding speeds u have everywhere !
what u don't know that this been as standard even previously we had standard that even usb 2.0 speed exceed usb 2.0 speed of actual device .. that i called like ''LAW''
don't u know even SATA or PCIe exceeds transfer speeds of HDDs/SSDs
of course it does.. but that is state what is actual protocol capable of not the using device !
I know I like the way lightning is flippable they made huge change since 30pin connector
But eventually they will have to move on ..
And benefits of type c are massive.
1.fast charge
2.it is video cable already no need any other
3.fast transfer
4.100mA power u can plug so many devices and windows/OS X won't notify u of low power
5.4K support
I show you the diff.
And here are some transfer speeds : (from 3.1 to 3.0 )
So I have now USB 3.1 (external enclosure SSD mSATA pic above)

they selling it separately for $20 = £15 ridiculous ! http://store.apple.com/uk/product/M...0c4244f5fc15b26031cb37d6e7f12ee54d68ed1285e2b
I rather purchased on ebay for £5 quid .. $7.80

Can you explain this statement? Why would using a propriety connector prevent Apple from moving to a standardized connector?

why would they not go with USB C? It is truly an all-in-one cable. They are not worried about making the consumer angry with this change. Unlike many other things, apple was the first to get on the USB-C train. I expect this to continue with the 6+/6s+

Apple launches the MacBook with ONE connector... USB-C.

I haven't seen any reports/indications that the new "S" phones for September will have a lightning adapter or a USB-C adapter....

If they continue with lightning... LAME.

They launched the Apple Watch the same day as the MacBook and it didn't even have a native USB-C OPTIONAL cord... You had to buy their adapter... blah, blah, blah...

To this date, since the launch, they STILL don't have native USB-C cables.

LAME!!!!!

Apple is pushing people to use the cloud, they won't put USB C on there, it will be a lightning to normal USB cord included. If you're able to actually use the macbook you are doing most things wirelessly anyway, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

Prepare for "LAME" as it will be lightning. I find that lightning works just fine and never had a problem with it on any of my Apple devices.

Maybe with iPhone 7 but I don't see it happening with iPhone 6s/6s+. If they do so, they will have gotten a good 4 years out of the lighting cable (5, 5S, 6, and 6S).

It will most likely not happen. As others have stated, Apple wants a wireless world so there is no real reason to change connectors if lightning works just fine for their purposes. Also, USB-C is larger than lightning. You really think that's gonna fly with Apple design philosophy?

USB-C is not much bigger than lightning.

USB-C is not much bigger than lightning.

The iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thick, every little bit counts. If USB-C had been built like lighting with the male end on the cable, and the female on the device, then I could see it happening.

Lighting has been great for me. I much prefer it over the old 30 pin and Micro USB. I could see a lighting to USB-C cable coming out at some point.

What would be the advantage of USB-C on a mobile device? I am genuinely asking, as I know not much about it. (This came up in another thread, were someone asserted the advantages were obvious; but when I asked for more info, my post was deleted for "petty arguing"!)

I found one advantage. I bought a new fully loaded to the MAX MacBook Air 13 rather than the new MacBook with no ports. Glad it pushed me to the Air as it is super nice.:)

It's not clear there would be any advantage other than being able to eventually use one port for all your devices - iPhone, ipad, MacBook, and potentially even have the same port on Android and Windows devices. With previous usb designs, there were distinct advantages to Apple's proprietary ports. As Apple was involved in the design of usb-c it remains to be seen how this plays out - whether they intend to use it on peripheral devices like the iPhone/iPad, or if they intend it to remain limited to 'host' devices like a full computer, eventually building a usb-c to lightning cable.
