Yes and that works...

Take out the headphone jack then sell AirPods to increase average revenue-per-phone accordingly. Give away lightning buds but then roll out new Macs without a Lightning jack. Embrace USB3C on Macs as the "one port to rule them all" but cling to Lightning on iDevices for it's profitable licensing and accessories business. Audio connection fragmentation for no consumer gain at all (AirPods would work with iPhones WITH a headphone jack. Lightning buds would too).

Make the phone thinner & thinner then sell an add-on battery case (rather than keep the "nobody complains" thickness and filling the space with more battery).

Make the back of a brand new phone out of fragile glass, which practically begs for some kind of case add-on or $5XX in repairs if damaged.

Strip away all common-use ports from Macs and then sell an add-on dongle so that we can buy our way back to being able to connect our computers to just about anything else.

Secretly throttle, get caught, spin how it's "for our customers" and then "innovate" a software solution so that users can opt to throttle themselves or not.

Jack up the price and roll out a payment plan, driving the faithful to spin to others "only $8.XX more per month" to help sell fellow consumers on any price increase. Creatively expand the time and even a $2000 iPhone can be "only $8.XX per month."

The trick is: We BUY it (literally & figuratively). And then we'll get after other consumers for daring to notice and not just happily complying with whatever Apple wants us to do. We even sling "...but who makes the most profitable ______" and celebrate reports of "record profits" like we win something.

Welcome to the Appleverse. ;)

And I'm STILL waiting for the new Pages to fully catch up to remarkable Pages 09... EIGHT YEARS LATER.
This post should seriously be pinned somewhere!!

Now you’re just trolling. Oh wait, you’ve been doing that all along and I fell for it. Enjoy your night.
I guess there's really no point arguing with a closed minded Apple fan as always, your argument to answer my question was incredible. Good night ;)

$1300 is the current Canadian price... withOUT tax!

Willing to be you are referring to CANADIAN DOLLARS which are NOT US DOLLARS.
$1300 Canadian dollars is equal to $1009.19 US dollars.

So Canadians are still paying the same price as US consumers... there's no international ripoff.

...Ultimately the designs of these phones are going to be identical to achieve what everyone wants and at that point you'll just be picking your OS.

Actually, that’s why most iPhone owners own iPhones. The OS. I certainly don’t compare the hardware, I select the phone (and tablet -and laptop) that runs the OS I prefer. So that’s happening now, not “ultimately”.

Here in mexico it starts about 1260 based on the supposed exchange rate 18.64. 23500 pesos. IVA is 16%. Based on the us price of 999. It should cost 1160. 100.00 international ripoff.

I wonder if everyone on here who supports and claims to like the notch, will be refusing to buy the 2019 onwards iPhones as they no longer have this feature...?! ;-)

Got to acknowledge people who so blantantly mistate the truth, the majority of the people say they don’t care about the notch, it’s just not an issue. Not that they like it or prefer it... they just accept it over the alternative, having a thick bezel, or no Face ID. If Apple figures out how to give me a thin bezel and Face ID...cool.

The chinese have done it:

Of course, a retractable camera is always an option, this goes without saying. As goes the fact that Apple wouldn't do something like that nor would any appreciable part of the Android handset makers. And if people have a problem with the visuals of the iPhone X notch, they would have a stroke having to use a phone with such a 'notch'. And 99% of the people 'predicting' a notch and bezel-less iPhone did not have something like this in mind.

And a retractable camera is not compatible with FaceID, as the added time needed to bring the camera modules into position would make FaceID way slower.

The tech already exists, there are patents. It’s just a matter of getting it right. I guess you’re an expert though so I’ll defer to you.
Sure, there is also 'tech' that let's you take pictures of something that is around a corner, but that stuff is proof-of-concept level in a lab, doesn't exactly produce high-quality images and is miles away from any real-life implementation. What is closer to reality is a flat camera, ie, hundreds if not thousands of very small 'light-sensing' elements on a surface that allow you to create an image. With this you get at least decent-quality pictures. But putting that stuff behind a screen is yet another huge step.

Get rid of the notch?!?!? But android manufactures just got finished copying it!

Many films use cinemascope/2.35:1, and even more so now than ever. This will be affected by the notch. Don't get me wrong, as I normally don't view films on my mobile device. But, this affects every day use to ME at least. I have OCD with these kind of things. I don't want to see something obstructing my display when I zoom in on a picture, watching videos, or just using the phone to text. Some say they don't notice it, but it sticks out like bird s*** on a black shoe to me.

A notched iPhone X is *still* better to use for 2.35 films than any other iPhone simply because even with the notch accounted for, you still have a screen that's wider than 16:9 iPhones. So yeah, you have a point that the notch can affect 2.35 content, but you ignore the fact that the black bars on the top/bottom of the content are smaller than on any other iPhone ever made.

Hardly noticeable.

That's not an accurate depiction of the view options on an iPhone X unless you're viewing 19.5:9 content, and I've never heard of video content using that ratio.

I thought I could get used to the notch, and I indeed got used to it in portrait mode. But in landscape mode, it is really distracting and I have not gotten over it. The notch serve to accentuate the bezels around the phone, too, in that mode. It's as if I am looking at the screen in a picture frame.

Smaller notches? Really? That seems dubious to me. I can see going notch-free when technology allows, but smaller seems like a fake rumor. Apple made a strong design decision to include the notch and to no de-emphasize it with software, but rather to highlight it. With the disappearance of the home button, the notch has become the iPhone’s new iconic design element. Making it smaller a year after it debuted doesn’t jibe with what they’ve done in the past.

Also, it will create a host of new interface issues for Apple designers as well as 3rd party software developers, who will now have to design every page of every piece of software for yet another screen configuration. And if the notch is too small, the “ears” on the side won’t be big enough to attractively house items like WiFi, battery and signal strength.

Not saying it’s impossible, but it seems improbable.

Lol. I’ve experienced none of those.

But they had the first notch, months before Apple..... Why spread wrong accusations around without fact checking at the least?

Of course. The latest android phone releases are just coincidentally notched like the iPhone X. The notch plans have undoubtedly been in the works for years.

I dunno, I have sources who say they'll feature improved processors and better cameras. Sounds legit to me.

As he said, it is still totally speculation until Apple actually announces it. As in our justice system, second hand information is always hearsay, not from the source. It could, with hindsight, turn out to be 100% true but as of this date, it is still speculation.
