I have owned the revA mbp for almost two years now, never had even an inkling of a problem with it. I have a developer discount waiting for me, so I am going to get the next rev anytime before oct, not coz i have a problem with my current mbp, but coz i am greedy for shiny new mbp :D

Of course there were people that didn't have problems with them. But there were a high percentage of people who did. My friend and I ordered within 30 seconds of each other, and his went back 2-3 times for repair. He still has his in the end.

Everyone is different, but for me, I'd rather get the gen before a major revision and wait out a couple revisions until the kinks are worked out. I had to sit around without my laptop of about 1.5 months of time while mine was in for repair, and that sucks considering how much I paid for it. By the time it would have been fixed and I could actually use it, another revision would have been out already.

Ordered a MBP

I was waiting for the next MBP upgrade and was excited to hear yesterday was the day! I ordered the 2.4 and paid the $50 for the additional 50GB. I'm also going to replace my AE with time capsule.

I'm not sure why most people are paranoid about new mac updates. Most people use their laptops to just surf the net, get their email, and watch the occasional video.

Even my 5 year old PC can do all these things with no problems. Heck, iPhones are probably more powerful than my old PC. But I'm not losing any sleep because my old PC is outdated, the reason is because it still meets all my needs. It still gets the job done sufficiently.

If a current computer can meet all your needs, then buy it. You just have to take a minute and seriously think about how much power you actually need, rather than how much power you'd like.

There is always one more reason to hold off. I'd say get one if your desire tells you to. Apple is constantly upgrading their products, same as all other manufacturers. That is the way with electronics. They get better over time.

Compare yourself to those who don't even visit to macrumors.com. They probably just bought the last model a month ago, a week ago, or even just a couple days!

I know why some people wants to wait for a big leap. That feels like you get the best bang for the buck. But, that big leap might come with a price too. For example, software aren't ready for architecture change, some bugs with 1-st revision, etc... Then, you are going to tell yourself to wait again... it never ends...

I am ready to shell out the money and buy one for myself... :D

Oh well, I was holding out for the multi-touch trackpad and LED 17" and now that I have those, I'm happy. I don't think I could wait until June to finally own a Mac anyway. I'm sure I'll have a lot of great use out of my Mac once it gets here, and I'll be sure to upgrade to an even better platform once it becomes outdated (or I feel an itch to get some better technology :p). But it's always good to see Apple surging forward with its Mac product line.

I'm holding off for the update of the update. :D

Sigh. I am too. I really want to jump to Intel but what I own still works ... slowly ... but works. And if it can crank out PSD's for 4 more months then I can wait. Besides speed, as superficial as it sounds to some people on the thread, I would like a case/keyboard/latch redesign.

As a current MacBook owner that is still running on Core Duo and 1G of Ram (Slow to todays standards). I'm looking to make the jump to the 15" MBP. However, I am truly not a fan of the current design. I understand it cant get much smaller, lighter, etc because it needs all those components to run. However, my biggest gripe with the current MBP is the keyboard, speakers locations, and a little bit with the optical drive location though I would ever barely use it. I give Apple credit for not putting any hookups on the front of the laptop like some Dells, HPs, and Toshibas do.

I love the MacBook keyboard. The keys are spaced nicely and I don't have add any extra force to get the keys in. I'm sure my problem is that I have just gotten used to these keys and if I were to switch over I would learn to love the MBP keyboard. I really wanted to buy one of the newly updated MBPs but something in my gut wont let me.

If I would have continued to waited till the next upgrade, and the next upgrade, that is supposed to come out, I wouldn't have had all the fun, non-Window's issues and enjoyable productivity that my first generation MBP has given me. I plan on buying a new Mac "whatever" about the time that my 3 year Apple Care runs out, then my old Mac will be listed on eBay.

A higher resolution screen is sort of a 'must' for me, as only so much code fits on a 1440 x 960 screen, even a 1680 x 1050 screen would be nice. I've used higher resolution screens (that are the same physical size), and now my PowerBook's screen looks, well, bleh.

Blu-Ray would be nice. I'm probably getting a Dell through work that has one (and a 1680 x 1050 screen).

And I'm sure Apple will re-design the case for the next 'major' update. These aluminum cases have been around for quite some time, and Apple needs something new for more 'impact' (see MacBook Air). Another update is just another update, but a new design has more people drooling over their products, and makes more in sales.

Intel's Centrino 2 to arrive in June *Article*

http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/82744

Centrino 2 (code-named as "Montevina," which you'll also hear bandied about a lot) is probably Intel's most noteworthy laptop upgrade since it rolled out the Core Duo CPU in 2006, which finally brought dual-core technology to laptops and cemented Intel in the lead in the notebook market. The Penryn update represents a major milestone for the company, innovating a microchip that runs cooler and faster while drawing less power than before. You'll hear a lot about "hafnium" and "High-K" technology in the coming months. Average users really don't need to worry about what those terms mean; the upshot is that your laptop should run longer and keep your thighs cooler if you purchase a Centrino 2 machine.

Bottom line: I rarely tell people to hold off on computer purchases, because there's always something better just around the corner no matter when you buy, but the advances in Centrino 2 really do look like they're worth waiting for, and if you can hold out a few months until Centrino 2 notebooks are shipping, I really think it will be worth the wait.

That's the way I feel. Yes, there will always be something around the corner and you should therefore buy when you need it. But, it will take me two months to save up for my future MBP, and I don't have a dire need for it. Therefore, I will wait for this update, but definitely can't wait for the one after that.

I'm not sure why most people are paranoid about new mac updates. Most people use their laptops to just surf the net, get their email, and watch the occasional video.

Actually, the large percentage of Mac owners that I know are artists, designers, architects, film editors, and other members of the creative community. We all use our computers for a few more programs than what you might have a need for.

Hmmm, I will be interested to see if the case is redesigned, maybe *ehems* Bluray drives? :)

"Year of HD," was announced and left with nothing to offer. Regardless if Blu-Ray is finally introduced and supported on the Macintosh platform will be welcomed by many.

For me the SR MBP 17" can be upgraded with a Blu-Ray laptop internal drive, however the OS does not support it and only few such as Roxio Toast will even write to it on the Mac side.

I am glad however that Intel is pushing or phasing out the old processor quickly and Apple has no choice other than to comply. :D

Something else of note which I think was mentioned earlier

The link below shows the top selling computers on Amazon. Look at the old MBP vs the new one that came out yesterday. $300 difference. Looks like a lot of folks are jumping on the old inventory to save some $$$. I'm thinking about doing the same. #1 vs #12 as of this posting.

What good what a Blu-Ray drive be at 1680x1050? For 1080p you'd need at least 1920×1080. As I'm sure you know though, 1920x1200 is the Hi-Def standard for computer monitors and laptops. Anything less, and it makes no sense to include Blu-Ray, IMHO.

Quite right, I hark for the good ol' PPC days, when Macs were Macs :( sigh....

Not me... I loved the G3 and G5 when they first hit the scene, but the G4 (especially in laptops) has been going on for far, far too long...
The Intel Mac probably is more of a Real Mac than the PPC Mac could ever have been.... Fastest and most versatile personal computer on the planet!
THAT is a real Mac for me....

Just think, the Cell processor could be in the "Power Mac" right now :(
Nope. This has been discussed before... the Cell CPU is not the best best CPU for a desktop computer. WTH hell is wrong with an 8 Core Xeon..??

Plus, all the PPC updates were SIGNIFICANT updates, not just Apple giving slightly more slightly cheaper as standard.

Really???
How many PPC updates have you witnessed..? If your were around since the introduction of the G4, you would have noticed that ALL Power Mac G4 updates were minimal at the most...! We even went a full 18 months without any upgade at all.... we even had a downgrade... :(
It was only when the G5 came along did we get a significant Power Mac upgrade.
I loved and still love the Mac because of Mac OS X. If Apple can build the fastest computer with a gr8 design that can use Mac OS X to its full potential, then that must be the wy to go.

I agree that no BR Drive would make SOME people unhappy, but my point is that the actual number of people would be very small. Unlike when video went from VHS to DVD, the quality bump from DVD to high def DVD is not nearly as significant or noticeable to the average user with average equipment. Thus, the usual early adopters hopped on board, but the mainstream has largely stayed away. If the BR market stays niche, which I think it has a distinct possibility of doing, I believe Apple stays out of it and works towards direct download which looks to be the way of future.

Only time will tell.....:)

Though I agree on higher resolution screen, I disagree with the Al portables. Al as mentioned by Steve Jobs is a highly sought after recyclable material and since Apple wants to be viewed as an ego-friendly and green company to the various organizations that keep prosecuting it over its material and processes used in its products it has very little to choose from.

Look at the MBA, if Apple was going to introduce a new line, why not also incorporate a different shell and leave Al behind. However it chose to use Al. What I believe will be the redesigned MBP will have tapered edged to provide a streamline profile.

There is more evidence of Al being used (look at the new keyboard). Al has a great deal of advantages, however some composite would be better to protect the portable users from burning they laps. Dark Al is what I really am looking forward to as a darker Al would look better on the iMac line then its current state.

I can't even believe this title. June update? Is there anyone who waited for yesterdays update and now will wait longer? It's never ending. If i waited this long, i'd buy now. June could turn into August.

Geezus guys, the frequent updates are only a good thing!

The frequent updates are nothing but good for the consumer. Why don't people think about the people that bought a computer just weeks before a revision and can't get the new one?

For example, the iBook used to be properly updated every nine months to a year. People buying just before an update have effectively paid the same money for technology that is old that someone had bought for the same price 9-12 months ago!

And for the record. I own a MacBook (REV-A!), yes its only 32-bit:eek:, yes its only a Core Duo and yes it has the rubbish GMA950. Guess what I can do with it?

Leopard with all the effects
Windows Vista with all the effects
Probably 99% of software released for the consumer for the mac bar games work on it.

Am I going to change it?

No, I think having the actual model is rather special and I have a three year warranty on it which I plan to use which just expires in time for me to use my last University discount H/E on a new MacBook Pro Evolution:cool:
