And if you click the link and read the comments left at the bottom everyone just assumes this is for the Next Gen iPhone. The way I read it is that they were getting huge orders ready for the China shipping. Anyone else? It would be nice if it were for the next gen though.

That is how I understood it.

Just imagine the carnage if the Touch got the 5 and the iPhone got the 3....
seeing as every 5Mp phone cam they do does QSXGA apparently (f 2048×1536)
and the current iSight is 1280x1024, are we going to see a resolution bump all round?

What product would they want to put a 5Mpixel in, rather than the iPhone? Will become more clear soon hopefully.

I see 3MP for the iPhone and 5MP for the iSight in computers. Finally the HD iSight that people have been clamoring for (YEARS before it would have made any sense).

Think the link got shortened for some reason

Looks like Daniel's been digging around the scenes recently...

Wireless radio component specifications contained within beta distributions of iPhone 3.0 firmware reveal support for a new chip enabling low power 802.11n that's bound for Apple's third-generation iPod touch. It's therefore also likely to be included with new iPhone models.

This BCM4329 Broadcom chip - ability to do 802.11n is useful (and also link to the update on the Airports).

You'd think Apple would want to start at some point getting more info about the dock/Bluetooth/wifi for next version, if they want apps that support the feature by WWDC? Or will we see a subset of developers getting a headstart on this?

EDit - Ok this is off topic - but has the iPhone forum suddenly got hit by trollers? Or has this been a gradual thing? Saw pretty much 3 back to back troll baiting threads tonight...

Whoops! Sorry about that. Dunno what happened there. Thanks for the fix t0mat0. :D

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/04/05/rumor-iphone-os-3-0-to-include-video-editing-tools/

Ben at benm.at has found a few at art resources "that seem to show editing, scrubbing and clip functions in the next version of the iPhone's firmware. Note that Engadget Mobile pointed out an "Upload my Video" button in the MobileMe area of a 3.0 iPhone last month."

So the whole scrub issue for video was a hint perhaps. Heard it hear nearly 1st...

"Giving users the ability to edit their video on-device before uploading, emailing or MMS-ing would be a spectacular feature, and there's a lot to like about the idea of a pinch/stretch UI for managing a video timeline."

"Still, if you planned to do a lot of video work on your phone, a 32 GB model with a faster processor and better camera would be ideal..."

Video editing. Boo...yah

The http://www.9to5mac.com/broadcom-BCM4329-iphone-802.11n-FM - The ability to transmit on FM and receive - does open up a lot, seeing as Apple might be really eyeing up the accesories for iPhone -
That's Bonjour, Wifi in 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and FM transmit and receive?

According to the fine folks over at AI, the soon-to-be-released iPhone 3,1 references the Broadcom BCM4329 wireless chip in the boot script. This is a significant upgrade over the current Broadcom BCM4325 for a number of reasons. As they pointed out, the component upgrade adds power savings and new support for 802.11n features, including the ability to find and join 5GHz networks.

But they neglected to mention that it also adds the ability to receive and send (the previous model could only receive) information through FM radio signals which theoretically could be used to broadcast sound into car stereos..without external adapters. It could also be used to pick up FM radio music, news and sports broadcasts on their iPhones and even, in August, on iPods. Currently the FM reciever is only used to pick up communications from the Nike+ peripheral.

MobileDevDesign points out:

The BCM4329’s FM transmit capabilities enable consumers to stream music directly from their mobile devices to car stereos or home theater systems without special adapters or bulky cables. With the FM receiver, users can get real-time traffic information as well as music, news, and sports broadcasts on their mobile devices.

Apple has been known to disable some features on its iPhone/iPod chips (see Bluetooth on the iPod touch or A2DP on iPhone) so which features will be available from the outset are uncertain.

As the current iPhone models can recieve FM transmissions, Apple could theoretically enable "radio" functionality in an upcoming update

there will be a new iPhone
/ thread

If you think there isn't going to be a new iPhone you're a fool

Did you read the thread title? I'll give you a hint. It clearly asks whether there will be new hardware "This Summer."

talking of which, can we change the title of the 1st post. It's pretty definitive we're going to see new hardware, in some form from new devices this summer.

:)

Speaking of -

This buildup/ramp up - is this current 3G iPhone production?
What's the lead time from manufacturing to sale last time for the 3G?

Any thread title suggestions? I'd be more than happy to change it. :)

I'll have to check into that manufacturing/sale timeline.

Well, I looked around a bit but didn't find quite what I was looking for.

Anyone that would like to check out my unfinished blog post will find that I compiled a list of rumors leading up to the 3G launch. As you read you will find that the Rumors really started picking up steam mid April and on into May...check it out when you get a chance.

http://safariphone.blogspot.com/2009/02/looking-backfor-future-reference.html

...and since the post is unfinished, here's a continuing (50 page) thread where we keep up with ALL the daily news unfolding pertaining to NextGeniPhone.

Enjoy. ;)

I don't see why people are getting so hyped up about increase in production. Apple has been said to be working with Chinese mobile carriers and of course that's a HUGE market they are missing out in.

Secondly, if they don't include WiFi, I'll flip.

Thirdly, I see three major changes... Increase in storage, battery life and a better camera. Along the side of slight improvements of the processor, speaker and mic.

I've thought about this too. Could be high production for China except I still don't think anything has been confirmed.

Guess we'll see! :)

So here's a teaser - Will SproutCore make a big entrance come WWDC?
Apple has the option of making their web apps much more usable. I'd expect a big open standards HTML 5 push - but we'll see.

Till then - here's something to follow up on - check out the second to last company Apple bought out in 2006 called Proximity. ANyone wonder what one of the screenshots of the iPhone was showing, where it had the iChat video recorder image in grey on a white background with a 3 way toggle between all picture and video i think - Was this a selection page ala multiple picture selection for an email? Didn't look like camera roll that we know.

Anyway - long night and a new build for me.

Hmmm. I don't recall seeing this screen unless I completely overlooked it, do you mind digging it up again? It actually had "iChat video recorder" in the image?

Interesting.

This is one of the coolest features about it to me.

"it also adds the ability to send and receive information through FM radio signals, which theoretically could be used to broadcast sound into car stereos..without external adapters."

It's a handy feature and it's getting more common, but it's nothing new. The first time I saw this was about 2 years ago on a SE phone.
