Let me just say this, Google Play has INSANE customer support for defective devices. I got a new Nexus 4 sent out within a week while the wait time was 6-8 weeks for new orders. It was a brand spanking new device.

Now for the really insane part, I called two days ago about my bumper. I bought it back in December. The bottom part cracked. I was expecting an excuse about how its not their fault, but instead the employee said that she's gonna send me a label to return it for a full refund (no restocking fee) that way I can just order a new one. I was astonished.

If google can fix the ordering process they would be the best

Very lucky. Took me over a month to get s refund from when they received the device.

If there are any suggestions on apps or tweaks to make i'm all ears.

Kii keyboard - This is better then Swiftkey, give the free version a try.
Notifications widget- Shows all your notifications on your lockscreen
Dice player - The best video player imo
Es File explorer - The best file manager, has built in root explorer.
Nova launcher - Allows you to fully customize your launcher.

I also highly recommend rooting the phone as there are many other great apps, roms and Kernels what require it. There is a free toolkit that you can get that will root the phone for you. Im currently running Carbon rom with Trinity Kernel and my battery life has improved massively!!!

----------

Has the battery life improved with 4.2.2? I'm thinking about picking up an N4 to go along with my iPhone 5.

Yes you will last a whole day on 4.2.2, with a custom rom and kernel mine lasts 2 days no problem.

As far as keyboards go, I think if you have a nexus running 4.2.2 you have the best keyboard available with stock. Obviously it is all preference, but the nexus keyboard is awesome.

It is all personal preference but kii keyboard is MUCH faster then stock for me, even swiftkey is faster. The prediction on kii is amazing is and almost always correct.

I was not a fan of the stock keyboard. The predictions were awful. SwiftKey has been pretty good though.

I just downloaded Kii and didn't realize default was slow until I tried this Haha.

I sold mine due to a big issue with the phone. I would loose data connectivity after being disconnected from WiFi. Sometimes my phone would be fine, other times I would get cycling gray bars as the phone switches on and off from HSPA. Only way to fix it was to reboot phone or toggle airplane mode.

I have the same problem. My 4S also had the same problem. Are you on AT&T?

Yes I'm on AT&T. My iPhone 4S/5 as well as countless other phones never had the issue, including the Galaxy S3/Note 2, Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr Maxx, etc.

It's well documented online so I'm not the only one.

I know many other people on AT&T with the grandfathered unlimited data plan that also have this problem. I've always wondered if somehow AT&T causes this so people have problems using their network for data. But I don't see how they would even have control to do that. Unless they could somehow disable the SIM if WiFi was recently used. But that's just my conspiracy theory ;-)

Yeah don't think it's a AT&T issue since I have the 5GB tiered data plan with tethering on a work account. Issue stems from Wifi to mobile data handoff caused by router config and driver issues with the wifi chipset on the N4. Since the problem happens regardless if I'm connected to my Verizon Fios router at home, or AirPort Extreme and Cisco AP at work.

My conspiracy theory points at us power users manually inputting the APN settings, since our IMEIs are unrecognized and shows up as unknown device on the network. But I never had this issue with other unlocked phones, more recently the Galaxy Nexus.

Well since I never manually put in my APN settings for my 4S, why did it happen then?

Hey all,

This is a question to Nexus 4 owners :D.

I am thinking or certain that I want a Nexus 4 as my main smartphone. Ready to pull the trigger, but thought I might ask the community here. I've read that there a some problems with it such as a buzzing of the earpiece, screen responsiveness.

Do you think it is still worth getting it? (The price point, hardware and software attract me)

Thanks,

B.

I have owned it since December.

Hardware:

Externally the device is beautiful. There is no phone like it, it feels solid. I have had experiences with many phones. when compared to the Samsung galaxy line, thus phone feels 10x better in the hand. It is curvier than the iPhone so it fits in the hand nicely. The glass on the front and back may make people afraid of drops, but mine hasn't broken. If you are someone who drops there phone regularly I would recommend a rugged case. I personally rock a bumper, however I did go naked for a bit and I had no issues. When the glass catches the light the sparkles on the back just look damn sexy. Like your fiancé on her wedding night, nothing looks so beautiful. All other phones fall short of that wedding gown like back. Not that its girly, its just plain sexy. The soft touch coating does not scratch easily and it makes the phone feel better than the glossy plastics of other phones. The whole thing just has a solid premium feel.

Internally this thing is beast. Its not the newest phone in the world but it will still run circles around most. The s4 chip inside is great for gaming, and it certainly has the RAM to back it up. The screen is vivid, bright, and has pretty accurate colors. The cameras area also quite good, in fact its my main camera. The LED notification light is also handy and beautiful. While storage might seem like its a problem, Box has 50gb free when you have a nexus 4. So even if you go with the 8 you'll be good. I have never run out of space on this phone and probably won't for a while. Battery life is good and gets me through the day, usually about 15 hours of talk, text, and web.

Software:

Android 4.2 is sexy. Holo is amazing, there are a ***** ton of apps no matter what Apple says, and because it has Nexus written on the back it is super easy to unlock and put any ROM on. If you get CM10.1 or PA or AOKP on this thing you can put themes on it, so basically you can have tons of different themes, from Sense to Touchwiz. However even if you stay stock you will never feel like you're missing out. Its really stable, you will get the latest updates as soon as they come out, and there won't be many apps you can't run due to the great hardware.

Some things to consider:

Accessories are limited, but if you search you can find everything you need.

You just saved a ton of money by not signing another contract.

People will hate on it because of LG making it, but this is Googles baby, and they raised this one right.

You will find yourself never going to a non nexus device again.

In the end I would say buy this phone. You still have around a half a year until the new one comes out, and it might just be a spec bump.

Everyone is different but imo its the best overall package you can get when you take the price into account. Even if it did cost the same as a Samsung Galaxy or iPhone i would prefer the N4, it feels like a premium product in hand. The screen responsiveness is exactly the same as my iphone so im not sure where you read that.

There are a few things where the iPhone for example is simply better made, the loud speaker and earpiece speaker don't have the same quality of the iPhone but are not far off.

There are a few small QC issues like the buzzing earpiece but if you get one with an issue you can get a new one sent out while you keep using your original one, then you just send the broken one back once the new one arrives. If you like a phone with heaps of customization options I say go for it!

I am definitely going to try that out now. Thanks!!!

The auto correct is great. As much as people hate auto correct on iOS, I use to love it. Kii is just as good for people who type with two hands and rely on auto correct.

Great post ! My experience with the Nexus 4 have been great and its the only android i recommend for new people.

The only "bad" thing about it is the camera but for regular people is great specially new adopters :) btw for the price i dont know why people complaint ;) !

Thanks for the detailed reply and opinion. I have ordered a 8GB Nexus 4. I only use 2GB on my phone at the moment so I think 8GB will be more than enough. :p

Thanks again. :D
