Hey you guys I'm getting an N4 and I'm coming for a Galaxy S3.

How is the battery life? I understand it's not userreplacable (similar to iPhone) and I'm a bit concerned with it. The S3 was pree good at battery life and I had a battery pack on the way but unfortunately it broke so I'm really liked the N4 for the price.

Guys thinking of finally flashing my first ROM on the n4 after 3 months of stock. Thinking about going aokp and keeping stock kernel. What do you guys t think? Don't want it to be too much of an effort though.

AOKP is good although CM is usually a good starting point as well. The stock kernel is generally fine as well. Roms on nexus devices are pretty much always rock solid and the aosp browser is a huge improvement over chrome.

The description for the app says it has "Swype like gesture input." I turned that on. It didn't swype. Went back and turned anything on that had gesture in it. Still didn't work. Why should I hunt for it? It seemed slow anyway.

Contrast to Swiftkey, where the very first item in its settings screen is SwiftKey Flow.

Either something is wrong with your phone or you're lying. How does it seem slow to you when you couldn't even get it to work?

]Yes, for tapping Swiftkey is my favorite. I wish flow was better because I don't really like switching keyboards--so swype ends up being my default (even though it doesn't seem like Nuance cares much about it anymore :().[/B]

If I use something for around 20 minutes and can't get their version of swype to even turn on, not to mention the extra-long time for the keyboard to appear--on top of the insulting notifications about premium features counting down to reset--I can safely say it is not for me.

When you have flow enabled is it a different keyboard? I'm confused why you can't have them both activated with the same input accuracy?

Swiftkey is the same when flow is enabled, but I find using the Swype keyboard better for "swyping" (as in the actual Swype keyboard--not Swiftkey).

As for Kii it does warn, when enabling, that its swype mode (which it refers to as gesture typing) will not work on all devices and may cause the keyboard to freeze. Both of those seemed to happen to me. It wouldn't swype and it was extremely laggy.

Yea, I really have a motivation to lie about this crap. Unreal. I have nothing to say to you after that nonsense.

Oh ok, that is what I thought. It was just kind of confusing wording b.c it is actually called "flow" in swiftkey. I was thinking you meant the "swype-like" function called flow in swiftkey made tapping act differently.

Yea tapping is still the same with flow enabled--and works very well. But Flow is not that good for me. Part of it, I suppose, is that I don't get that stellar "reads my mind" suggestions like I do when tapping (duh). But even with the great suggestions when tapping I can type faster using the actual Swype keyboard. Ideally I would like exact same behavior in Flow as I get in Swype. Then I could leave SwiftKey as my default keyboard and be done with it.

I'll try Kii again after re-flash my Note 2. I am currently using Clean ROM ACE 4.7 that I flashed over 4.6.1 without wiping everything (was lazy). Then I flashed the 4.2.2 camera which has made things a little strange (two galleries and two cameras, and I often can't attach a pic in a text/whatsapp message because it will crash).

I think Swiftkey Flow is the best swyping keyboard ive ever used.

I just today downloaded another one called TouchPad Swype and it seems pretty good. I havent used it enough yet to say it is as good but it already imo is much better than the Samsung keyboard with swype.
The SS keyboard is awful imo. Small keys which makes the accuracy terrible.

If you're not lying then explain to me how does it seem slow to you when you couldn't get it to work?

Your nonsense not getting to work and saying "it seemed slow" doesn't make any sense.

I wish it was the best for me, I really do. The reason is not just that SwiftKey is so good when tapping, but because it seems Swype is being left to die on the vine (why they don't just charge for it and update it is beyond me). I posted a feature request in their forums, to allow changing the long-press-duration, and was told that that was one of the most popular requested features. I was then directed to a thread started a year and a half ago asking for the same thing. There are many other feature requests they are ignoring too--or outright refusing to implement (like giving the choice to use Google's dictation instead of Nuance's).

But I'm fastest with Swype; can do pretty darned close to 50 wpm. Maybe I will try that Touchpad keyboard.

OK because of you and Matt insisting something must be wrong I updated my Note 2 (still using CleanROM ACE but did a fresh flash/wipe). Sure enough, Kii then worked--yes swyping too. No more lag either.

I have to say it is now my favorite keyboard. I really like the pop-up of what it thinks I am trying to type while swyping--I have been able to correct words in mid-swype.

I'm not quite as fast at swyping as I am with Swype but I think that is mainly because I am not used to the lower-case letters on the keyboard. I'm definitely faster swyping on kii than SwiftKey though. So it is going to be my default keyboard.

I misstyped, it is TouchPal keyboard

Awesome, been running CM10.1 for a few weeks now. Loved it b/c I was able to find a balance between overclocking and other root settings to get over a day's worth of battery out of it. The only problem was the persistent battery drain while charging that I've said over and over.

HOWEVER, woke up today, had my Nexus 4 off charger (it was plugged in all day yesterday and I took it off to make a call last night), and when I went to wake it was dead (0% battery). On boot, it was wiped -_- back to the initial CM10.1 nightly that I flashed, minus all the apps and settings. Call log, messages, photos all wiped. Thank god everything was either cloud backed up or Titanium Backed Up.

Just got my Nexus 4 in the mail. I'm trying to study but its hard to stop using the phone. It feels great in the hand and 4.2.2 is very pleasant to use. Now I just need to root and restore my apps backed up with titanium backup and I'll be in business.

Since no one has answered you, Battery life is ok for me. Gets me through the day easy. Granted i'm not a crazy heavy user but i'm not exactly a light user either. This is my latest stat. A day filled mostly with browsing, emailing and Youtubing over wifi.

Thanks so much! Those stats look similar to what I had with my Galaxy S3 I'm just bummed I can't put a battery pack on it but I guess I can do with one of those portable chargers for those long long days.

I've been in Europe for two days on business and this thing kept my Nexus and iPad mini charged whenever they got low.

As long as I've kept that charged at least I know I can go on that much longer when out and about. Topped up all that I could in the hotel and in the car too.

Mine typically isn't quite as good. By that point with 14% left I would be lucky to get 4 hours of on screen time.

Nope sorry, solid as a rock! :(

What are your advanced wifi settings?

Settings > wifi > ellipsis at the bottom right > advanced

Identical. Happens at least 3 times per day and i have to toggle WiFi each time.

Signal strength probably pays a part too I have excellent coverage here. or just differing usage.

So true! for some things, ok I know I have a Learniing curve (like Tasker). But if a keyboard is going to make me work for it, vs. it working for me, forget it.

Doubt I would have lasted 20 mins..

My wifi seems fine, no drop outs.

Did a factory reset, still dropping out. And i know its not my router because every other device in this house (and there are many...including Nexus S) have zero issues.

I guess my time with the Nexus 4 is going to end soon.
