At $349 I wouldn't expect many "upgrades", much less the pretty incredible spec sheet of the N5. For the price of a S4 you would expect more significant upgrades, but as you mention you don't get them.

Besides I disagree, there are some pretty good upgrades. The extra core for doing things with the phone asleep, etc. At the end of the day there isn't much left to upgrade to anymore, certainly not at $349. I get your point, I just don't think it's very applicable at this price point.

You are missing the point. I am not talking about arbitrary upgrades with nothing to compare it to. I am talking about upgrades compared to cost to the manufacturer and how that compares to other devices.

GS4 saw some decent upgrades. Price to consumer was the same as GS3. Nexus 5 is seeing some decent upgrades. Price to consumer is the same as Nexus 4.

With GS4, price to manufacturer was likely similar as GS3 as when the GS3 came out, Samsung was using the flagship standards at the time. With the GS4, Samsung used the flagship standards at the time. Look at desktop CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, etc. Flagship standards every year hover at around the same price.

Google gave some decent upgrades to the Nexus 5 while the consumer pays the same amount. That is no different than the GS3 to GS4 upgrade.

That it definitely useful. Why you have had to look up numbers from Maps all these years seems dumb after doing it from the phone app directly. However, I think the better feature is that incoming calls now have a reverse lookup and if it is a business in the Google Maps database you will see the company name and photo.

Not only the price point, though, but also the fact that there are so many good-to-great Android choices, so that if the Nexus 5 is indeed missing something one desires, they can go to another Android phone and find it there.

That's the reason why I am harsher on the iPhone when it's missing features -- there's no other options to cover their bases.

And so while the S3 to S4 or the N4 to N5 are "minor" upgrades (that are ironically still on par or bigger than the iPhone 4 to 5 upgrade, yes, 4 to 5. I wouldn't call the S3 to S4 an iPhone "S" upgrade), it's far more forgiving because 1) it's already pretty much got everything up to current standards. It's getting to a point where they have to start putting in niche features (water/dust proofing) to get ahead of each other. And 2) because there are other devices that cover other needs.

I'm not missing your point, I just don't feel it's very relevant or important. Yes the upgrades are similar in quality, but the technology you are getting for less than half the price is the incredible upgrade IMO if we are looking cross device, and consumers will be looking at it this way, especially if this launch will also be at best buy, radio shack, sprint, tmo, etc.

If you don't feel the upgrades are significant then you are more than able to go buy a S3, it's probably close to the price of the N5. There is only so much you can reasonably expect from $349, IMO you should expect much more out of $649. That's $300ish bucks for getting pretty much the same technology.

I think where we differ is I see that $300 as an "upgrade" or feature. It's truly not in the classic sense of course, but it is to my wallet.

Wonder how much this'll cost.

New charging pad coming soon: http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/31/...wireless-charging-pad-for-nexus-5-and-nexus-7

I really suggest this thread be cleaned up. There are just too much pre-release pages (100+) and with the device now released the old pages should be cleaned to provide a better experience.

Anyways, still incredibly exited for this launch!

It's taking every single ounce of will power I have to not click the order button.

Me too. Me too. I am supposed to be at best buy at 730 am tomorrow to buy the iPad Air. I'm not so sure now. If the nexus 5 is going to be there like next week id rather spend the gift card and cash on that. Rough life over here.

The white doesn't feel as good as the black. Like I said before the black has the same nexus 7 rubbery feeling the white doesn't.

If you've ever held a Black and white Note 3 it's like that. The black has a great texture while the white doesn't feel the same.

I know what you mean. I was about to buy a new rMBP but now with this that might have to wait. I have terrible self control when it comes it electronics....and food.

leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks  no thanx I thought they had plenty from that one article yesterday? Yet another year of supply and demand that they have not learn from last year. Same goes for you Apple iphone 5s gold and ipad mini retina.

Do you know when the n5 might be releasing at BB?

I am looking forward to seeing photos from this thing. The camera on the Nexus 4 was awful. I really hope, being that Google is praising the camera in their intro video on YT, that the camera is much improved.

Although it doesn't really matter to me, I'm not going to buy it. But it'll give me hope for future Nexus devices that they won't cut corners when it comes to the camera.

Will the Hangouts apps store my SMS messages "in the cloud". Not sure if I want that happening. I text a lot. I also didn't really appreciate it when Google+ took it upon itself to automatically upload my photo library a while back either.

Dammit!! Please take good pictures! If the battery is just a little better than my GS3, im getting one. Buy, we shall see. I also wish we could switch around the buttons like on the G2. I do prefer the back button on the right side.

I never use hangouts. Im not sure what the advantage is or maybe i dont get it. Does everybody on your contact list have to have it to text them, or is this tied to your Googl+....which i dont have an active accouont.
