Too many pages to read thru. Have there been any reviews yet? Again as some here who are holding out, im waiting for battery life and the camera review.

Im pretty patient and even i am a little anxious to pull the trigger here but teh site says a 32GB black is a 2-3 week ship date.

Must restrain and wait for the actual numbers here. Im sure ill be able to get one this time round and it wont be sold out for weeks like the N4.

No official reviews yet, and early impressions ranges. Mostly good, though, so far.

Me too. Also keep in mind this time they will be at best buy, Amazon and RadioShack for the same price so that will help with availability.

I dont really see where you can go wrong with this device, unless you need a note 3 / droid max / g2 style battery. The camera won't be the best but remember how much it costs.

I'm not buying though, spent too much on gs4ge.

The Verge is full of it in regards to the N5 camera! From the samples I've seen from different websites, the N5 camera is WAY better than the N4's. Thank Goodness! The Verge is full of iPhone fanboys.

Come on, talk out be presumptuous. Have you used the Nexus 5? Did you even watch the Vergecast where they were using the camera and discussing the it's quality?

I did watch it, and the person most critical of the Nexus 5's camera was Josh Topolsky, probably the biggest proponent of Android at the Verge. He's been very critical of both the iPhone and last few versions of iOS. And he wasn't comparing the photos they were taking (in a studio lit specifically for video no less) to the iPhone, but rather the Moto X, a camera widely criticized for it's camera, saying to his eye the Moto X's photos were much better.

Yes, it's only one sample but do we know exactly the circumstances behind any of the other photo samples? They were just taking quick snaps of each other, in much the same way any of us might of our family or friends and complained about slow shutter and blurriness. Yes, it wasn't a definitive, thorough review but it certainly was a substantial first impression, and it wasn't good in their eyes.

I'm not going to rush to judgment over one specific circumstance but I don't think it's any better to dismiss it outright either. I'm more curious now than ever to see thorough, detailed reviews, especially Anandtech's.

My point was that it is an average upgrade. There are quite a few things they still could have added. It is quite similar to an S3 to S4 upgrade.

Yeah but look at the price of a S4. I think it's pretty impressive the technology they got in there for $349. It's leading the market in almost every category, the battery is at least on par with most other phones besides a couple like the g2 and note 3. The only POSSIBLE downfall is the camera, but we really don't know that yet.

The Nexus 4 promised pretty incredible battery life, too. It got no where near that in real world use.

You must have a different memory than me. I don't recall anyone ever touting the Nexus 4 battery life. It was known from the beginning that it would suck.

Another stupid question - with all of the carrier mark ups we're already hearing about, how long will the N5 be available on the Play Store? I realize shipping is now backed up about 3-4 weeks, but once caught up - will there be more? If so, I'd rather just buy it now and if I have 2nd thoughts, could always go the eBay route to sell.

I called a few. They say information hasn't come Down yet in when they will get it.

Same here. Was trying to see if I could purchase in store sooner but none of the stores had info in the system so I just pulled the trigger on Google play instead.

(Watch tomorrow best buy will start selling them!)

Haha I'm thinking best but will get them next week. Just a pure guess. And that would be faster than from the play store at this point.

One review said mono.

I sincerely hope it's not true. Not only would I lose Boomspeakers, but I'd lose stereo sound.

And almost all impressions have said it's relatively low. That sucks.

There is one speaker on the bottom. The other area on the bottom that looks like a speaker is the microphone.

Stupid question, but is some of that 4.96" screen being taken up by the Back / Home / Fwd soft buttons? Do they ever disappear when doing things like browsing the web, viewing photos, etc?

I'm used to many of the current-gen Android phones having these soft buttons "invisibly" tucked down, off-screen and only appearing when needed.

On the Nexus 4, .25" is taken up by on screen keys.

In most applications they do not hide. Texting, Web browsing, viewing photos, playing games, etc. The applications that do have them hide? YouTube and some video player apps who's developers decided to implement it.

Again, my point is that it is an average upgrade. S3 to S4? Average upgrade at the same price point. Nexus 4 to Nexus 5? Average upgrade at the same price point. Nothing substantial here. Google is still likely subsidizing the phone themselves and making little to no profit on hardware.

How do you know? We haven't seen a single review yet. Google is touting 17 hours of talk time which is quite impressive.
Who goes off of talk time anymore? I rarely "talk" on my phone. I'm more concerned about internet browsing time and general usage time which doesn't appear to be all that great.

At $349 I wouldn't expect many "upgrades", much less the pretty incredible spec sheet of the N5. For the price of a S4 you would expect more significant upgrades, but as you mention you don't get them.

Besides I disagree, there are some pretty good upgrades. The extra core for doing things with the phone asleep, etc. At the end of the day there isn't much left to upgrade to anymore, certainly not at $349. I get your point, I just don't think it's very applicable at this price point.

Weirdly enough, I talk a lot on my phone. I know it's completely strange and reminiscent of the distant past, but I conduct a lot of work that way.

Im pretty disappointed Google didnt add Chromecast support baked in for the gallery, screen mirroring or whatever
