The battery seems better than it was, but not great. Same for the camera...

Either the price and stock android is worth it to you or it is not. It is to me. But, expecting a great battery, camera, AND price, is really not realistic.

Ya. All things considered it's a good phone. But compromises at that price should be expected.

After having read multiple reviews now, I have noticed a pattern. Every time the 2 lowest rated features are camera and battery life. Arguably two of the most important things in a phone.

Overall, the camera is better than the Nexus 4 and battery life doesn't seem to be worse. So coming from a Nexus 4 it will still be an upgrade :)

Good lawd, the N4 camera was a hot mess! I remember my N4 camera being bad, though...but I always had my iPhone 5 with me as well and never really took pictures with the N4

I don't think I could mimic those shots with the n4. They had to have been taken with the flash off in the dark.

I certainly don't have a trained eye but photos from the Nexus 5 seem just fine, comparable to the iPhone 5S (at least in the same ballpark) and infinitely better than the Nexus 4.

What exactly was the Verge smoking when they did the camera evaluation/scoring for the Nexus 5?

"Huge step down from an iPhone 5s"

What were they talking about, the camera? I can't tell because it's pretty out of context to be useful to our discussion. Really the camera was the only thing they were negative about, but they also said":

"Representatives from the Android team say that software is to blame for the weak performance, not hardware, and reps tell me that a fix is coming to deal with the issues in the upcoming weeks. I've even seen an early build of the new software, and while it's only a minor improvement — autofocus is a hair faster, but still inconsistent, and picture quality hasn't changed — it's nice to see Google already at work."

The same thing happened with the MotoX, that update improved the picture quality quite a bit. Still, I don't see it being a "lemon" because of the camera alone. I could say the iphone 5s is a lemon because of its crappy battery life, but IMO it isn't when weighed against its other pluses.

I think we are reading different reviews, as the one I read is giving the N5 a glowing review in pretty much all categories, with the caveat of a crappy camera. I mean if you think it's a lemon don't buy it. At the end of the day it's pretty incredible what they included for $349.

My point exactly. Most of the samples I've seen for the N5 were not bad at all. I'm still not sure how it got a 5/10. I mean, it may not be better than the 5S, etc., but it looks good.

In all fairness, I don't think I ever got shots as bad as that with my n4

I think the more important link is the Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S comparison. Those shots look on par with the 5S shots. Here's my score card:

In picture order:

1) Clearly Nexus is better

2) Leaning Nexus

3) Leaning iPhone

4) Leaning iPhone

5) Leaning Nexus

6) Clearly iPhone

I agree. And a lot of other samples from other websites show similar quality shots.

Wooootttttt... Google is really running their play store on all cylinders this year. Getting it delivered to work so I can play with it instead of doing work.

I'm jealous. I got my order in 1 minute after the release but my bank cancelled it (stupid fraud protection). I had to reorder on Nov 1 and I got the dreaded "ships in 3-4 weeks".

Okay, first time I have seen that comparison. All pictures look fine, except the flower (and maybe a bit of extra noise for the iphone pic of the bike inside).

Only strickingly out of place photo was the one of the flower. Is it me or did the iPhone pic look really blown out? Looks more like an S3 over color saturation picture. (To me, this doesn't even look like an iPhone photo. Of course, you can't expect every picture to be perfect, so I will chalk that one up to just a bad photographer pic, no fault of the phone itself.)

I'll be taking my own pics later and compare myself.
