By the way, it appears that all your settings for Google apps now transfer over to a new device. All of my settings matched what I had on my Nexus 4. That was an unexpected surprise.

What about 3rd party apps and app data (like game progress for example)?

Just curious what The Verge meant when they said that the best new features in Kit-Kat are reserved for the Nexus 5 and do not appear on other devices running Kit-Kat if I understand correctly. Anything major?

.. seems to be it.

Funny though that 4.4 supports Infrared Blasting, but the Nexus 5 does not :(

Meh, my G2 has IR blasting, but it's terrible. Very little range and line of sight has to be perfect. You are not missing much.

to everyone who got there's already (mine is scheduled for early delivery tomorrow, which I'm anxious for lol) how's the sms integration with hangouts? I have the newest hangouts apk on my phone now and I'm not a fan. The majority of people I text don't have a g+ account (that they no off, so no profile picture) and having their and my text bubbles the same colors is pretty annoying.
I'll probably just download a 3rd party app off the play store, until they fix it in a update.

I was actually under the impression that low power audio was a hardware feature that comes from the extra low-power core in the Snapdragon 800, which is in multiple other phones not on 4.4.

I am loving my N5. It feels so weird having such a large screen but the device is nice and light! I can't wait to fix the color calibration though. I want it to be a little darker.

Yes. I just loaded up Asphalt 8 on my Nexus 5 and my cloud data was there. Only took about 4 seconds and my Nexus 5 is now loaded with all my progress. Worked like a charm. (Only Game Center games will obviously be able to do this.) :D

How's the battery life? Just bought a 5C but man this price is too good not to try one out :D

People that have had theirs for a few days now are reporting pretty good battery life. I need to cycle my battery a few times before I feel confident in giving a report, so I'm not saying much about battery life for a few days.

And for $350 for an unlocked phone, with these specs, you can't go wrong. Although, I got my Nexus 4 from Google for $199 just a couple of months ago. Now that was a steal!

Yeah I saw that deal, didn't hop on though my buddy had an N4 and absolutely hated the thing. I was gonna order it at launch but due to their supply constraints I ended up waiting for the S4 that's now collecting dust, I'm disappointed how much it lagged, even after following guides on XDA to make it more efficient.

Did you load the Google Edition ROM on to the S4? I heard that made a world of difference? I don't know anyone with that phone, so can't say much about it. Bummer though. S4 should have been a great phone, cause I did like the S3 a lot. Samsung just went overboard with crapware after they saw the success they had with the S3. Unfortunate.

Crapware Overload, I didn't try any custom roms, but I did everything under the sun to disable every little setting to try to squeeze every inch of juice out of it. Switching from pages drove me nuts because I used an iPad and the S4 throughout the day which I suppose made the S4 seem even worse when transitioning pages look laggy. I think in the end I'd be much happier with the N5, not as much crapware to slow it down and you don't have to wait for AT&T To stop dragging their feet and push an update.

In short, both are comparable. Only one is half the price of the other.

The Verge review is strangely off. Given that their battery results were also all over the place, is it possible they had a bad unit?

The verge didn't say the Nexus 5 camera was bad. It said it takes good pictures as long as the object is staying still and in good lighting.

The iPhone 5S has been well known to take much better action shots especially in burst mode. Of course nothing can truly replace a DSLR for action pics.

But that's where the iPhone 5S shines. I'm trying to take pics of my 1 and 3 year old and they move around a lot.

On another note, I've seen a couple of reviews lambast the very low speaker volume on the N5. The G2 also has crappy speaker volume and I'd be very bummed if this was the case with the N5 as well. Can any of you guys who have a N5 comment on the speaker volume and also the bluetooth earpiece volume?

The speaker volume is the same as the Nexus 4 but better quality, however the earpiece speaker is a big step up from the Nexus 4 imo.

This has just become the most replied to thread on the alternative forum and most people have yet to receive their phones.

I am extraordinarily happy with this $400 phone. If you're on the fence, buy one. Period.

The camera could stand to be improved, but numerous reports point to the problems being software, not hardware, and even as-is, it's head and shoulders over the N4. Speaker volume is fine - as loud if not louder than the N4, better fidelity. Far better headphone fidelity.

Hand feel is amazing. Amazing! The white back surely feels the same as the black back (smooth but not smooth), and the sides and front are identical between the two.

Kit Kat is great. Jelly Bean but with some nice perks.

Speed of the phone is stunning.

You will not find a better phone for $350-$400. You won't necessarily find a better phone, period.

Edit: And the display... oh my God the display. Get one.

Hmm, I never heard the N4 personally. I'm just hoping it's better than my G2, but if it's based on the same hardware then I might be out of luck. At least there are software mods.

It's no audiophile home setup, but I've got it here playing a playlist as I type this, and it's quite listenable.

I tend to use headphones, and it sounds great on my HD600s.

The sides are glossy on the white model and matte on the black. I just saw a video that showed this...

Great write up though, looking forward to getting mine!

Good but annoying. If the same person text you and messages you via hangouts it does two different threads. It does not work like imessage and keep it the same or distinguish between the two.

Anyone planning on using a case with their phone?

Ordered a black Slim Armor case from Spigen. Waiting for it to arrive this week. Looks like they got rid of the glossy fingerprint magnet outer shell and went with more of a matte finish.

Also like how it protects that huge camera lens on the back.
