I can agree with the happy customers as this is my first nexus device whatsoever and all I can say is WOWWWWWWWWWWW! I have been letting myself be abused by these carrier branded phones and glad I finally made the decision to take a Nexus leap and grab The Auto Awesome Nexus 5.

Anyone planning on using a case with their phone?

Ordered a black Slim Armor case from Spigen. Waiting for it to arrive this week. Looks like they got rid of the glossy fingerprint magnet outer shell and went with more of a matte finish.

Also like how it protects that huge camera lens on the back.

I have the Spigen NEO-Hybrid and I can say that spigen has been in the game a long time and you can tell by the quality.

I definitely want a case because of the camera sticking out so I went for a Spigen Hybrid. Should be getting my Nexus 5 tomorrow. Hopefully the case fits nice and snug!

If I buy this from the play store, how will I know if it can be activated on my carrier? I contacted Sprint and they said it won't work unless it's a Sprint version? Does this make sense?

How are you making sure the phone will work with your carriers?

Nexus 5

I had no idea the white and black versions have these differences.

They are wrong. Multiple news sites have said this will work on sprint from the play store. They sell the same version that is on google play. Sounds like they are trying to take advantage of people.

I am extraordinarily happy with this $400 phone. If you're on the fence, buy one. Period.

The camera could stand to be improved, but numerous reports point to the problems being software, not hardware, and even as-is, it's head and shoulders over the N4. Speaker volume is fine - as loud if not louder than the N4, better fidelity. Far better headphone fidelity.

Hand feel is amazing. Amazing! The white back surely feels the same as the black back (smooth but not smooth), and the sides and front are identical between the two.

Kit Kat is great. Jelly Bean but with some nice perks.

Speed of the phone is stunning.

You will not find a better phone for $350-$400. You won't necessarily find a better phone, period.

Edit: And the display... oh my God the display. Get one.

Now I'm really excited :)

Makes my decision to get the black version that much more clear.

Absolutely. I never buy white gadgets anyway but this makes me happy I got black. The differences are huge but they are definitely noticeable.

of course they lied and told you that. They charge $100 more than the google play store, so obviously they would prefer you buy through them.

In reality though, the phone from the google play store will work just fine on sprint.

To be fair, they may just be misinformed. I worked part time as a sales rep at an AT&T store while I was in college, and to say the product knowledge training was bad would be an understatement.

the white Nexus 5 back is close to the nexus 7 2013 back IMO on texture type.

Oh, yea. Completely agree. They might not be trying to trick people. That was me assuming the worst.

Just ordered the mahogany skin!

They might not be, but Sprint would much rather you sign on for a 2 year contract, and thus buy the device through them at their subsidized price, so I certainly wouldn't put it past them to steer a customer away from an 'unlocked' device.

I'm sure they would!

I like the white the wood just enhances it

That's what she said? Sorry been watching the office lately lol

Sprint would prefer that you buy the device from them, or outlets like Best Buy, because they are charging a $100 premium compared to the google play store.

In fact, best buy had listed the off contract price of the Nexus 5 at $799 this weekend. Talk about gouging customers!!!

I cannot get over just how much better the headphone amp is on the N5 compared to the N4. The N5 sounds much more like the 2013 N7, which has a fairly decent DAC and amp. The N4 was very muddied, but the N5 is quite listenable. One of my go-to test songs is "It Doesn't Matter" by Alison Kraus & Union Station. The N5 handles the song around 2:08 in a way the N4 just can't. Mind you, it isn't stellar - something like Porcupine Tree's "Lazarus" clearly shows the limitations (the N7 also stumbles on that), but nevertheless, the N5 is quite listenable, whereas, IMO, the N4 wasn't.

There are rumors of maybe getting digital audio out of the USB slot. Being able to plug into a real DAC/amp would be awesome.
