so...i did it. i hate being so wishy washy with phones, but i got my nexus 5 today. i'm glad i got the white; the white in the earpiece doesn't bother me as much as i thought it would.

i'm the same way - but really, it's the device you probably spend the most time with. you might as well have the one you that suits you the best.

That's sucks.....
Anyway..... I'm so tempted to drop into best buy today and pick up this phone. I know it's the worse option for several reasons but my nov 26 ship date just seems so far away. Ugh

Yep it will work just fine. There's 1 US version and 1 international version.
My order said that I had to wait till Dec. I broke down today and canceled my order and picked it up at my local Bell store. They threw in a case(25$)and screen protector(20$). So in the end it was 55$ extra than my Google play order. No more waiting or dealing with UPS for shipping is worth the 55$ to me.

Anyone apply a decent BACK plastic protector? I installed a Xtreme Guard one, that's the rubbery one that you apply with soap and water. I usually love them for the back, increases grip and looks invisible, and never had any bubbles. Well due to the soft texture back and raised lettering on the N5 the protector looks awful, plus I really miss the soft texture back.

Anyone else get a rear protector and happy with it? Are there any "soft" touch ones out there?

As you pointed out, considering the materials used, I doubt any rear protectors would look very good. I picked up an Xtreme Guard for my Nexus 7 because it was so cheap but ultimately decided against using it because, 1) I didn't think the soft textured plastic would take it as well as other smooth surfaces (looks/feels great on my iPhone, iPad, HTC One) I've used it on, and 2) the soft touch material already feels great in hand and is pretty resilient.

If I had a Nexus 5, I'd keep it naked (basing this upon the assumption that the material on the back is similar or the same as the Nexus 7). I hate screen protectors so I'd use a sleeve while carrying in a pocket or bag.

I will probably go naked, but I just know that soft touch back is going to be beat up in a couple of months.

I'm also having an extreme time justifying a front screen protector, man they feel horrible after feeling the naked glass. I went naked with my G2 and sure enough it developed a light scratch, although in all my years that's the only phone which got scratched so maybe it just has a janky screen.

Played with a dummy one as they had no demo models in local Craphone Wankhouse, its lovely but very big. White back was also horribly stained and yellowed. Definitely black for me.

I have to say, I'm surprisingly happy with the Spigen Ultra Hybrid I bought as a "temporary" case. There's enough of a lip on it (but not too much) to protect the screen when you place it face-down, a decent grip on the sides but not too much added width, and a nice smooth clear back that highlights the white. I do still ultimately want a leather wallet case, but until those come around, this'll do nicely. I thought I'd hate the smooth plastic back; it turns out that I don't. Plus, I feel reasonably safe not putting on a screen protector.

Because I like Android too. I'm not one of those people who is either iPhone or Android, both platforms appeal to me for different reasons.

Blasphemy!! You must choose a side and fanboyishly stick to it. What are you thinking?

The only reason I'm going to put a case on it is because the camera sticks out.

Can't I just choose WP? Or maybe Jolla? What about Firefox OS?

I had one on my Nexus 4 and got one for my Nexus 5 too. These cases are really good and recommend them to anyone looking for a quality case at a nice cheap price.

Does anyone notice black shadowing on the homescreen by the status bar and on screen buttons? trying to see if im just nuts!

It was too quirky. A ton of apps kept crashing and others (like Voxer) didn't work correctly either. Like when I got a new message the app would just play it in the background even it not on. Camera wasn't too good either. Just not my fancy.

I haven't had "a ton" of apps crashing, but I have had about two of them do so. That being said, it's kind of to be expected. This happens at the beginning of every new OS release. If you get on the cutting edge of an operating system release, you have to expect that there may possibly be compatibility issues with apps that haven't been updated for the new OS version.
As for the camera, to each their own I suppose. My personal experience has been that the camera is actually pretty decent, and does quite well in low light.

Mine seems to really struggle focusing in low-light.

I figured the apps crashing probably had something to do with not being optimized for 4.4

People asked and there was a lot of confusion...especially with sprint being CDMA

That's pretty much because it's not the norm, to have a phone that you can take to every major carrier (except Verizon). It's pretty awesome though, because that means that you can use it on Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, any of the GSM MVNO's (H2O, Simple Mobile, Aio, etc), and Metro PCS.
