Well, I'm starting to think this thread (and the phone) may have jumped the shark. I think we've talked about all we can talk about, seen everything there is to see, and speculated until we're all blue in the face. :D

Of course, as soon as there's a tiny bit of news, we'll all be racing back here to post it or see it posted. :p

(On a side note, I can't help but sit here and wonder how many people are going to see the term "jumped the shark" in my first sentence and have no idea what that means or what it references. Damn, I'm getting old...LOL).
LOL....i wondered what that meant so I Googled it.....

I remember reading an article that said it had something to do with compatability with the sensors and white front. I believe Apple said the same about the white iPhone 4 being delayed months after the launch of the black. I don't know how credible that is but it's the only plausible explanation I've ever seen.

Interesting. Do you remember which sensors in particular? Others seem to have figured it out.

No, I don't remember which sensors in particular. It made sense at the time I read it because because Apple had issues with the iPhone but now everyone seems to have it figure out. Does LG have a phone with a white front? Maybe LG has not invested in making their sensors compatible with a white front? Just throwing things out here. Someone with more technical knowledge would need to jump in here to help.

I thought the issue with white was UV protection to prevent discolouration over time? Without it the white faced phones would yellow.

Or maybe not.

I know for sure Samsung and now Motorola have made full on white phones without issue.

And I thought the camera issue was for the back camera, not the front? In other words, what I'm really asking is, why isn't the front of Nexus "white" phones truly white?

I have a suspicion it's more to do with aesthetics. Which is unfortunate.

Ha, we must be of a similar age as that's right in my wheelhouse. In fact, vaguely recall actually seeing that episode actually a kid, or just maybe as a rerun.

That's just a design decision. Technically there is no reason why the front couldn't be white.

I thought it had to do with light leaks. It's much easier to control that sort of thing when the front is opaque.

Good old Happy Days. Man I miss that show!

We must be pretty close. I was 3-4 when that episode aired and I do remember either watching it or I remember the fallout and people starting to use the "jumped the shark" analogy afterward. It was a fantastic show, but that was definitely the moment when it all started to go wrong. LOL. :D

I think that it's due to aesthetics, but perhaps not for the reason you suspect. Generally, except when you're reading an e-book, a white background is more distracting and, generally, requires a perceived need for more brightness than a dark one. For most smartphone-type apps, darker fronts are better.

My wife has a white iPhone, and I can't stand it. For whatever reason, for me, it's just harder to look at the screen.

That's not to say you shouldn't have the choice. I'm just saying that, while I think that a black front and white back aren't aesthetically as nice as pure white, from a usability point of view the black front is (to me) superior.

Last year sucked because of the the hurricane and the stock shortage, this year sucks because of waiting. I attached multiple credit cards to my Google wallet, bookmarked the Google Play devices page, and left it open on six computers and my phone, all that's left is for the device to actually get announced!

Not sure why Google are messing about - just announce it already. ...

Here's the thing, though. Other than the accidental posting in the Play Store last week, Google hasn't said or done a thing when it comes to the Nexus 5. We're all sitting here being impatient about a phone that is still mostly pure speculation. WE'RE the ones fueling the impatience...not Google. It's not like they've been posting teasers on Google+ or tweeting vague shots showing the outline of the phone. (The Kit Kat teasers, on the other hand, aren't doing anyone any favors).

One person says something...then someone posts a link to a reputable website...and the speculation starts all over again. And those reputable websites are doing the same thing...posting speculation and guesses based on their "sources" or even just pulling things out of thin air.

Will the specs we've seen from the FCC document be correct? More than likely, yes. But we all just need to take a deep breath and calm down. It'll get here when it gets here and we'll all get our grubby little mitts on one eventually.

I like the idea posited by someone here the other day...that the reason Google isn't saying anything is because they've learned from the Nexus 4 launch last year. They're letting LG build up a stockpile of the phones, so when launch day does arrive, there are most likely enough to go around for everyone. Does this mean they won't sell out? No. But if it is the case, it'll mean there won't be a 2 month wait for the supply to catch up to the demand. And since getting backordered was what caused me to never get a Nexus 4, I would welcome that with open arms.

Folks, take a walk, go for a run, go do some work...the phone will get here soon. And when it does, we'll all get one within a reasonable time frame. Let's remember what it is in the end...a phone. It's not life and death. ;)
