Why?

I mean if I opt to go the Nexus route, I have little to no need to keep my iPhone.

That's exactly what I thought when I got the Bold last year. I learned my lesson and this time I kept my iPhone while experimenting with something else and didn't have to buy another when I realized it was better for me.

Not telling you what to do or what's going to happen. Just offering a little friendly (money-saving) advice. ;)

yes the battery life is not up to par at all with the iPhones I see others get good battery life and some horrible. My experience has been horrid. yes it was 100% when taken off I kept it on the charger throughout the night. I just surfed the web, checked twitter, email. Text and that's it. Just like my 3GS I would turn off wifi when not at home and GPS and there is a SYNC option for notifications which you can control to turn off and on and I had it turned off and that's what I got from it still. I was surprised that it was like this. My expectations were much higher.

That definitely does not sound right. I am getting around 10 hours of usage and thats heavy use. About the keyboard, it takes getting used to and yes it can be frustrating at the beginning but it does get a lot better (I am using the Swype keyboard which is totally different from the regular texting).

Well I have had the Nexus one for 2 days. Everything I said before is out the window because the battery life sucks for me. It's been off the charger for 6 hours and its down to 20% already with the wifi turned off and GPS and SYNC.

My battery life on the N1 is not as good as it was on my iPhone either. That being said, it's nowhere near as bad as yours.

And yes it is terrible to use outdoors and even when people say "thats why you turn the brightness up all the way" you shouldn't have to do that to see "outdoors.

What do you mean "shouldn't"? It's the display technology. It results in an incredible screen in most situations.

I miss the keyboard on the iPhone it surpasses anything else in the market.

Agreed. The iPhone keyboard is far better than the N1. I haven't tried Swype yet though, I hear that's amazing.

I realized I can go without multitasking since it's such a small device what is the multitasking really for ya know.

Multitasking is my favorite thing on the N1. If I get a text I just hold the home button, pop into the messaging app to respond, hold the home button again, and I'm back on the browser. It's super fast to switch between stuff. There's none of this "doing something in an app, clicking the home button, trying to find the app you want to switch to, opening that app" nonsense.

I switched and I am now back with the iPhone. Below are the main reasons I went back to the iPhone;
I cant see the screen in bright daylight (I play golf and dive alot)
I dont like the way the contacts are sorted
I dont like the bookmarks apps
Battery sucks
When I sync it to my car stereo the contacts are in reverse

Thats about it.......... AFAIAC the iPhone still rocks

Well, the N1 isn't for everyone. A 3rd Generation iPhone vs. a 1st Generation Nexus One isn't a fair comparison. I'm sure Google will improve and learn what to do and what not to do in the 2nd Generation Nexus One (Nexus Two). You have to crawl before you and walk. Some of the things can be corrected in a update, though.

I have all Apple computers, but I've never bought an iPhone due to the mandatory data plan that I haven't been able to afford until now (and doubt I'll use all that often enough to get my $30/month worth)

I'm waffling between the N1 and iPhone 4. I really don't want to wait, but I guess I will. The fact that I can't jail break a new iPhone 3GS is really putting a damper on my hopes of ever being able to jail break the iPhone 4.

I am leaning towards the N1. Here are my questions.

Can anyone comment on the Flash support for the N1? Being able to watch hulu on my phone really sweetens the deal for me. From what I've heard, it's been rumored for 3 months or so that Adobe is working on it? But I've also heard that Android 2+ can run flash natively?

Can anyone comment on tethering? I might use that feature once in a while. I'd be nice to know I can for when I'm trips and stuff.

Thanks.

Couldn't of said it better myself. Of course the N1 is not perfect but I think for it being Google's first one in comparison to what Apple's first iPhone, that Google did a amazing job with it and many of the problems people are having can be fixed with a software update. Yes the Nexus One has flaws (just like every other phone) but its positives outweigh them largely.

Uhhhh that's stupid... This is not Googles first phone nor HTC's and it is a fair comparison.

Edit: Actually it isn't that fair for the Iphone since it's comparing new tech to 8 month old tech.

Remind me how is this Google or HTC's first phone? This isn't the first android device and it certainly isn't the first cellphone to come from HTC, nor is it the first phone made by Google and HTC together!

For those having battery issues I'd recommend downloading the advanced task killer App. You can set it as a widget on one of your home pages and tap to kill all the apps running in the background. You can also exclude Apps you want to always leave running in the background. Since downloading this I've experienced better battery life.

Hulu has a tendency to blacklist some browser ID strings when told to do so by the content owners

The easiest way to find out what is sucking away battery life extremely is to go to Settings > About Phone > Battery use.

I've found better battery life better compared to my old 3gs so it would be interesting to see what is sucking away at peoples batteries so fast if they could check what I showed above and share it with us. :)

I agree both phone are different deepening on the user. I have the task killing app set to kill Everything when I close out of it or after 1 minute of the phone being asleep it kills everything. We will see tomorrow. It is a fact though that this screen isn't too easy to see as the iPhones in the daylight.

battery down to 84% been off the charger for 34 minutes. hah I'm done back to my 3gs seriously. Shouldn't even need a task killer really just to get good battery it's almost sad.

Can you not tell us what is killing your battery so fast like I posted earlier? (Settings > About Phone > Battery use)

If it is some kind of rogue app you have installed I'm sure the rest of us would like to avoid it like the plague.

Wow that is bad! It sounds like going back to the 3gs is the right thing to do. :)

I'll have to re-assess the screen situation when we finally get some sunshine over here. :D

haha I know right, ya I found someone I can buy a brand new 3gs off tomorrow for 450 so I'm takin it and selling this N1 for 530. not too bad.

but since apple doesnt sell the anti glare screen protectors anymore I was thinking of rollin without one since the screens arent too bad on the iPhone I'd like to see the color and on my 3gs the anti glare took that away. Does the oleophobic coating wear easy is it noticeable?
