I got a question. Anyone know when google will likely release the Nexus Two? I know that nobody knows but I don't follow google news as hardcore as some others do, did they ever mention a roadmap or something? I'm assuming they will pull an Apple and release their own phone once a year.

I'm 110% getting the iPhone 4 but I really want to give Android a spin, I just refuse to own one that isn't from google, hate Sense and waiting for updates, hate motorola stuff, and Android hates Canada as we get so few handsets and google supported Canada with the Nexus One for all carriers.

I'll buy the next google phone when it comes out and use it on and off with my iphone and see which I prefer to keep, but no more rambling, back to the original question, anyone know anything? Or did they never even hint at it?

Google is abandoning the online-only distribution model, so it's unclear if the plan to bring more "nexus" devices is going to stay the case.

People are saying that the Motorola Shadow is the Nexus Two. From what's been leaked, it looks like it'll be on Verizon.

Bah the shadow looked like it had a modified version of moto-blur. So not into custom UIs. And before anyone says it, I would never root, I refuse to do something that's irreversible.

Also like I said, this is Canada, barely get any good new android handsets, the only one that was available to us before it became obsolete was the Nexus One. I know they abandoned selling online but I don't think they've abandoned the idea of having their own phone like the N1. Ah well, it's the only way I'll buy into it. Maybe next year...

I don't see google releasing a Nexus Two. They're going back to the tried and true model of producing the OS and giving it to manufacturers. They failed to change consumer buying habits, especially when carriers like verizon did not carry a CDMA version of the N1.

Initial support issues, I'm sure also soured their taste for this foray into producing a phone.

I'm liking my N1, and would have loved to see an improvement over some of its short comings. I figure when I'm ready to upgrade, I'll be out of contract with ATT and I'll be able to choose any android based phone on any carrier at that point.

Of course with that said, there's something to be said for getting the phone directly from google. I don't have to wait for carriers to customize the OS and rooting is much easier

I don't mind Google stopping the Nexus, as long as manufacturers make more handsets with stock Android, and making them with unlockable bootloaders would be great too.

You still can buy a nexus one, the store front is still available and google is still selling the phone.

I agree, the N1 has some great intangible benefits, like being the first to get an update. The ease for which it can be unlocked.

Personally, I like the design/looks of the N1 over the incredible, which was my other choice. Other then the incredible being cdma and few other features, I'm happy with my N1 :D

Cincinnati Bell is still selling the Nexus One, but I think you better hurry. If their presentations are any indication (and they usually are) the N1 is the third phone down from the top in their advertising now, with Blackberry Bold 9700 and Android Blaze at the very top. I suspect that it will disappear soon.

BTW, Cinbell is offering half priced data plan for the phone which you can keep forever if you buy the Nexus One. I think they know the sticker shock is pretty intense compared to the other things they are selling, the N1 has no subsidy other than the reduced data plan.

http://www.cincinnatibell.com/consumer/wireless/phones_and_devices/?id=htc_nexusone Better know what sort of a phone you can run on Rogers, an AT&T model or a T-Mobile model, you will be asked to choose.

And they were offering free Blackberries again this weekend. None were 3G, but they were free. Make of that what you will.

Have both

There are strengths to both the iPhone and the Nexus One. At this point I prefer the flexibility and integration of the N1 over the iPhone. We will see if OS4 closes that gap a bit but from what I have seen it won't.

Never thought I would ever do it, but I have gone totally android and got the HTC Desire (v similar to Google N1). OMG this thing is sooooooo... cool, u should at least go play with one in your local store. Only thing missing is the ability to put apps on SD card which will come with Froyo (2.2). Apple is now "the Man" Android is the "happening" OS for mobile.

lol,
welcome to the darkside my young padawan :p

Yes, the android platform offers a deeper level of customization and power then the iPhone.

With that said, the iPhone just works, and is a testament to apple's attention to details. Of course their desire to control and censor the app store is turning people off.

One of the reasons that the Nexus One was released in order to prove the hardware capabilities that a manufacture is capable of producing in order to raise the hardware standard of Android devices.

Thus, logically speaking, when hardware manufactures stop taking advantage of the hardware capabilities offered to them, Google would be again compelled to release another Nexus.

That doesn't really make too much sense. HTC was producing some nice phones before the N1 and like any product cycle, each iteration is better then the prior one. Google rather tried to alter the landscape by providing unlocked phones to the consumer thinking that they (the consumer) would be willing to buy an unsubsidized phone. Creating a Nexus phone as a proof in concept and then selling it doesn't seem to make economic sense.

In general terms, the Nexus is a failure and when Google realized that its a bad idea to compete against the very companies they rely on for the android platform to succeed they decided to shut it down.

Yep the Desire is also a very solid device. Have fun with Android as it truly is awesome :)

I still think the nexus is the best phone on AT&T that runs android.

Definitely, both the desire (haven't seen it in person) and the incredible are close. They have some things that the N1 doesn't but the N1 has a great design, its easy to root (you cannot root the incredible yet and the desire takes a lot of work) and we should be the first ones to get Froyo - the official release of froyo that is ;)

I honestly can't live without the trackball notifications. Neither the Desire nor Incredible have this which are both huge deal breakers for me:p Just looking at my N1 I can see if I have a missed call, new email, text message, facebook, twitter, etc.

Nexus One or iPhone 4 (let's just use the rumored specs and resolution for now)?

I have a iPhone 3GS I'm looking to trade a guy an econo laptop for a nexus one. Can I just take the sim from my iPhone 3gs and put it in the Nexus One and be up an running?
