It is kind of ironically funny that spec things that the android supporters always tossed out there are things they are not even better at any more... It makes it hard to be a spec whore when the specs are even worse.... Poor guys.

Bigger, worse screen with LTE and inferior battery life.. Yeah that sounds awesome.

Too bad that does not coincide with what people actually want from their smartphones.

----------

The only problem is it is not better.. It was not better than the old 5MP camera... The new 4S has improved sensors. The gap between the 4S and this phone is massive for both photographs and videos.

----------

But it doesn't have it. That is the point. Not only do iPhones outperform the android phones in real world performance, now they outspec them as well. It is crazy. This 720P screen too.. It is still not as dense as the iPhone 4 screen which has been out for a year and a half.

fanboy!!!

That is all you have to say after all the idiotic things you said in this thread?

Let's face it: most people wanted the iPhone 5 to have the guts of the 4S and a new shell (bigger screen, metal back). 4S failed the deliver the latter, and when there is an alternative with a comparable (I would argue slightly better) guts and a desirable shell, what's not to love?
The "iOS is far superior" argument is irrelevant. Android has developed to the point where it's just as good as iOS. I am talking about pure vanilla Android, not manufacturer/carrier modified crap. Everything is just personal preference (I've said this in this thread as well).
So when you add these up, it not hard to see why so many of us are excited about the Nexus Prime. This is the perfect iPhone 5 (alternative) that didn't get announced on Tuesday.

I am one of those people. I wanted a larger screen, new shell.

Am I willing to give up Apple's ecosystem for it. No I tried android, I have a Galaxy S2. I am now running IOS 5 and the OS is simply amazing. It integrates all my devices. If I update a presentation, it is updated to all my devices. I can start a presentation on my iPad and finish it on my Air without moving any files physically. The App store destroys the Marketplace. The quality of apps are better and the iOS 5 interface is better.

Smoother, and just simply works better. Want to play some golf on my TV, hit the little Airplay button and I am playing on my TV. Want to sent a movie to the TV, hit airplay and I am watching or finishing the same movie on my TV. Come home from vacation, want to see the pictures you took with the 4S camera, hit airplay and you are watching videos and seeing your pictures on the big screen all wireless. Heck you can even edit them on the fly on your TV.

Showing a presentation at the office, again hit airplay, and it is on the big screen. See how simple this is. Now you need a Apple TV for this, but having one greatly enhances the abilities of the device.

If you want to do that with Android, you might want to carry your Mini HDMI cable around with you.

Not to mention Siri. Being a business person this will be a god send.

Can Android do all that for me. No it cannot. So I really don't care about specs. Meaningless if I cannot use the device to it's fullest.

I tried Android. Didn't work for me. Not to say it will not work for you.

But the new rumored specs 'still' don't blow the 4S out of the water. Same GPU and faster clocked CPU may still be faster as we have the seen the existing Exynos processer is still slower than A5 1.2 ghz to 1.0Ghz as is the Qualcomm chip 1.5 Ghz to 1.0 Ghz. A5 still runs on iOS faster than both. So Ghz doesn't mean a thing if the OS cannot take advantage of the hardware. So it isn't like the 4S is underpowered compared to the comp, which it isn't.

Can I do that with android. The answer to that is no. I cannot. And neither can you.

Samsung can't be underestimated this year.

Check out GSII's bigger brother -

I like that the Prime is rumored to pack a 2050mAh battery while the Note is at 2500mAh.

second only to the iPad 2.

Notice the 4S has the A5. Lol.

Is there any forum out there where the discussion is a bit more balanced? E.g. Where liking one does not necessitate bashing the other.

Most forums seems so bogged down with spec trash talking that one would think most buyers are 5 years olds bickering about who has the stronger dad. (Case in point: this thread)

Anyhow, my only hope for what ended up as the 4S was a larger screen and I didn't get that (otherwise it seems great). Now I'm on the fence between the new Nexus or deal with the smaller screen in the 4S (which might for all I know work out ok).

No LTE on the 4S doesn't bother me one bit as hspa+ works great and is plenty fast where I live (been on wireless only internet, even for home, for 4+ years).

The reason for my want of a larger screen is mainly due to that I'm usually a one device person and I've decided to skip the current tablet crop so the phone will have be on tablet duty as well. Been looking at the Note but as a (possible) Android newbie I have a bit more faith in a "vanilla" device (updates and what not).

Is there a moderated forum out there (like NeoGAF), where I can expect at least some form of mature discussion on the matter?

Now delayed as "not the right time" according to google and samsung engaget are reporting!

According to Phandroid it's out of respect for Mr Jobs.

" [Update]: Looks like the delay could be out of respect to Steve Jobs’ passing . Understandable in that regard and makes a lot of sense as to why they felt this wasn’t the right time. We’re still waiting to hear more from Samsung or Google."

In that respect it is the right thing to do.

I dont' understand how him dying and showing a phone have anything to do with each other. I could see it if it were Apple, maybe, but we can't just stop the world because he's gone.

If anything they're just hurting themselves; as the media is throwing this around almost as much as Michael Jackson's death and you know it's going to push sales when they start saying "Steve Jobs last iPhone".

People are going to buy it. Or the 4 at 99; which is damn cheap.

I just wanted to chip in and say I have been reading this thread and laughing. This naths guys seems absolutely manic at trying to claim this phone is better. Frantic LOL.

As the thread progresses he resorts to replies such as 'fanboy', um your on an Apple forum mate, take your nexus prime specs and go preach its worth on an Android forum. Nobody here cares.

The Nexus Prime looks great, enjoy it!

If that's really the case it's certainly a nice gesture. All in all it would only have been a week after his passing and banging the drums for a new device/OS that shortly after would have felt somewhat inappropriate even for a market like this.

Also it seems the delay is for the announcement itself, rather than the actual release of the device?

EDIT:
I dont' understand how him dying and showing a phone have anything to do with each other.

Not even a week would have passed on the 11th. That's one week, not a year. Steve Jobs together with a handful others like Bill Gates were one of the true pioneers of the entire industry - it didn't exist before his generation created it. Doesn't strike me as odd at all.

if i was forced to guess, id say their presentation was probly set to include a lot of anti-apple sentiment 'wow apple really screwed up their new phone, look at what THIS phone can do!' type stuff. Samsung would have been privy to some insider details considering they are a manufacturing partner so they may have known there was no ip5, just a 4s, and were gonna kick dirt in Apple's eye. So now they're probly rewriting their presentation to be more respectful of Steve's passing. Just a hunch.

Give me a break!!! This has nothing to do with the passing of Steve Jobs. HTC just announced a new phone yesterday and nobody thought it was disrespectful.

What if it ended up falling on the same day of his funeral? I think it sounds credible. HTC's event was unfortunately due on the same day that the awful news broke so it was probably too late to cancel.

Can you speculate why its been delayed for any other reason?

Um, yeah...how about hardware isn't ready, software isn't ready, carrier agreements are not finalized. late bugs detected? How about any of these?

Works for me better than Google is just so darn compassionate over the passing of Steve.

Are you talking about Samsung's vertical integration? Because Samsung is much more vertically integrated than Apple ever will. They start with basic materials (SAMSUNG Total Petrochemicals, SAMSUNG Petrochemicals,
SAMSUNG Fine Chemicals, SAMSUNG BP Chemicals, Samsung Plastic Co. Ltd, SAMSUNG Corning Precision Glass) and go from there - to batteries (SAMSUNG SDI), lighting (SAMSUNG LED), PCB (SAMSUNG Electro-Mechanics), displays (SAMSUNG Mobile Display), all kinds of chips (SAMSUNG Electronics), mobile devices (obviously) including software (Bada, Android). It's as vertical as it gets in this World. And if User Experience is not subjective then what is?

What are you talking about? Samsung is an OEM. There is no vertical integration between hardware and software.

I agree - the tone of the press release makes me think it was rescheduled out of respect for Steve Jobs, and I'm sorry to say, I don't think Apple would've had the same respect if it was Larry Page or Eric Schmidt who died a few days before the 4S event. Classy move by Google and Samsung.

If the goal is to get this out in time for the holiday season, judging by the time between the announcement and release of the Nexus S, they have plenty of time.

Are you kidding?

Who the hell are Larry Page and Eric (the mole) Schmidt?? Smart and talented individuals, no doubt (Eric takes good notes at meetings), but they can't carry Jobs' worn-out Birkenstocks on their best day.

Like comparing mice to a lion.

Gimme a break. A few moments of silence and we move on.

Does It Really Matter that much....

I enjoy reading all these posts...but...does it really matter what phone you use or prefer.....Android or IPhone....just use what you prefer and allow the other person to use what they like without any criticism or disdain...its about choices....funny how people feel if you don't use what they use its wrong or inferior....in the end...they both are still just phones....:D

From what I understand, this phone will have:

  1. Similar performances compared to the iPhone 4S. It's theoretically a bit faster but iOS always make things smoother, so in the end it will be similar.
  2. An OS with pretty much the same features. No Siri and iCloud but open, more customizable software.
  3. Much bigger screen with similar pixel density (326 vs 315 ppi).
  4. Worse camera and worse battery life.
  5. NFC and LTE which the iPhone 4S doesn't have.

What exactly is the big deal about? It sure seems like a good phone, but to say it's clearly better than than the iPhone 4S seems weird to me. It's not like the 4S is crap. If it had a new casing everybody would be drooling over it.

The biggest difference is the screen size, but that's more of a personal preference. You choose between screen comfort and portability. I use a 11" MBA and I like it way better than my 15" MBP because it fits anywhere.

Are people craving that much for a big screen? Or is it the LTE? Or did I miss something?

They don't feel it's wrong or inferior, they feel it's enjoyable to discuss (granted, sometimes argue) the pros and cons of things like this.

Kind of like you enjoy reading it, right? :p
