Android is a very decent OS, and I'm sure that Google has worked hard to stabilize it in its latest form. The specs of the Prime also look very good, and in my opinion Nexus phones are THE Android phones to get, since they will get the most developer attention (Google and forum dwellers alike). However, after using Android for more than a year, switching between stock and customized ROMs, and still not being satisfied, I'm politely declining this. That is my OPINION, and I'm not attempting to sway anyone else. Thank you.

This thread needs to close.

I am sure Andatech will have a head to head comp to who has the better spec phone with the benchmarks.

I was considering the Galaxy Note but after today the Nexus Prime seems a really nice choice. Im not getting the 4S obviously, since I already have the 4 and I wouldnt mind trying Android.

The Nexus Prime looks amazing with that big battery and screen HD plus the new android OS.

Sorry but even if you'll give me butter-smooth running Android OS on a quad core processor, I'd still grab iOS anytime anyday. I currently own both the Galaxy S2 and an iPhone 4. The App Store still destroys the Android Marketplace. Can't wait for iOS 5 usability.

Btw, the specs of the Prime (according to GSM Arena) might even be 8 megapixels, not just 5 as stated in the first post. Also dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and the PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU found in the iPad 2.

I have yet to see a post that is not conjecture on why the "specs' are superior overall than the iPhone 4S. I posted reasons on why the 4S 'specs' are superior and why it is superior in my opinion overall.Supplied links to back up my claims. I replied to all I never once ignored anyone. Including your self.

I name call, really that is really calling the kettle black, isn't it?

I am not trying to win a thread either. But don't cry about if I dish it back when posters attack and try to 'dish it out' so to speak. Calling people asses, stupid, and what not.

Most still don't get it.

I will give you a timeline:

Yesterday, the iPhone 4S was released.

People complained about the "specs' hence my talking about the specs.

All the while ignoring the fact that the iPhone 4S has the exact same rumored specs as the rumored iPhone 5 except for the larger screen and redesigned outer shell. LTE was known not to be a part of the iPhone 5. Apple essentially gave us a iPhone 5 in a iPhone 4 body. If you take the internals of the 4S and put them in a aluminum body iPhone 5 with a bigger screen but with the exact same specs, not one person would be talking about anything of the sort. But they have the same specs!

Now today this thread pops up. All the Android fanboys and people are pissed because the 'rumored' specs of the Nexus Prime they think is better than the iPhone 4S. Destroys it, Apple is going to declare bankruptcy, Apple failed, I am going to get this phone and are all giddy about the leaked specs that were rumored.

Ignoring the fact that going by the rumored specs only, since that is what this thread was about, ignoring the fact that the iPhone 4S specs match the iPhone 5 specs internally. It has a better CPU, GPU spec wise than what was reported. Key word reported than the nexus prime.

It has a new OS, same as the nexus prime, better CPU, GPU, camera, battery life and Siri, the nexus prime has a bigger screen, LTE but worse battery life. According to the rumored specs, the two phones are comparable.

Everyone that is a Android fanboy and disgruntled iPhone users fail to grasp that fact. Maybe the nexus prime will have a 3Ghz processor quad core, 4GB ram and mow your lawn. I could care less. I hope it does have better specs. I don't really care.

I find it ironic that people are complaining and at the same time clamoring about a phone that is 'rumored' to have weaker specs than the phone they are complaining about.

Specs don't mean a thing if the OS can not take advantage of said specs. This concept flys over a lot of peoples heads.

Let's face it: most people wanted the iPhone 5 to have the guts of the 4S and a new shell (bigger screen, metal back). 4S failed the deliver the latter, and when there is an alternative with a comparable (I would argue slightly better) guts and a desirable shell, what's not to love?
The "iOS is far superior" argument is irrelevant. Android has developed to the point where it's just as good as iOS. I am talking about pure vanilla Android, not manufacturer/carrier modified crap. Everything is just personal preference (I've said this in this thread as well).
So when you add these up, it not hard to see why so many of us are excited about the Nexus Prime. This is the perfect iPhone 5 (alternative) that didn't get announced on Tuesday.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
9mm thin
4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD with curved glass
TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1.2GHz
1GB of RAM
32GB of built-in storage
5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
1080p HD video capture support
LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
Wi-Fi a/b/g/n
NFC
1,750 mAh battery

Remind me why people are so pissed about the iPhone 4S? The only specs that seem to beat the 4S are processor (and only marginally), screen size, and LTE.

Unless I'm missing something, what's so great about this phone?

According to Engadget, the specs have changed.

Update: A new batch of rumored specs have surfaced over on GSM Arena, and these seem to be more in line with what we'd expect of a new Nexus. According to an anonymous Google employee, that 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display mentioned above is just about the only spec to make the final cut. The processor, however, is more likely to be a dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos (that's right) with an accompanying dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics chip. That rear facing camera? Try 8 megapixels with a newly beefed up sensor. The handset should also ship with a girthy 2,050mAh battery fully capable of juicing this apparent LTE / CDMA / GSM Android monster.

It is personal preference and that is why I am staying with iOS. I use the audio/music features of my phone a lot and iOS wins out in that area. When google comes up with something that does smart playlists nested in playlist folders with syncing of playcount data I'll take a look but until then it isn't for me and what I use my phone for.

Irrelevant? It's preference! I prefer iOS to Android and I used to own a Nexus. I also want a smaller screen because I don't want to deal with the tradeoffs of a larger one (smaller bezel, larger formfactor, more battery usage).

Let's be honest here. The only reason people think the 4S is a lackluster upgrade is because it isn'tdifferent in form factor. That's it; it doesn't look any different. Put the 4S in a different shell with the same size screen and people would go "Maybe a bigger screen would be nice but what a great update!" It was the same way with the 3GS and that was a GREAT upgrade but people bashed it all the time.

If I had not had so many bad experiences, and yes with "top-of-the-line", Android handsets I would totally give this a go.

Honestly the only 3 differences that (may) matter to people are LTE, the screen, and free turn-by-turn navigation via Google Maps. The rest is moot, you can't run the same exact apps on both, so it's all a matter of preference. For example, a startup time that's 5 seconds quicker is completely irrelevant if you prefer iOS. Simple as that.

I wouldn't trade my Macbook Pro for a PC laptop that's higher-specced even though I don't really use any software that doesn't exist on PCs or something.

The ONLY?

Those are 3 pretty big improvements to be brushing off to the side like that... ;)

Processor is marginally faster. The fact that iOS is optimized for the specific hardware means that the processor difference is probably a wash in the real world.

Screen size comes down to personal preference. I wouldn't say a 4.65" screen is "better" than a 3.5" screen - for me, it's actually too big. So that's essentially a wash too.

LTE is great. None of the Canadian carriers support it right now, though, so I honestly am not bothered that it's missing. ;) And until the battery life is as good as on 3G, it remains a mixed bag.

1gig of ram and 32gig storage along with SD expansion.

Hell I hope these specs stick for the SGS3.

Samsung Galaxy S III:
-debut @ MWC 2012, launch in mid 2012,
-4.65" 'Super AMOLED III' display, 1280x1024 resolution at a popits of 352
-2GHz quad-core processor
-32GB storage
-1.5GB of RAM
-10MP camera
-1080p video capture @ 60fps
-2,250mAh battery
-ICS and 'TouchWiz 5'

TouchWiz 5.0
-apparently codeveloped by Google
-even less 'intrusive' than 4.0

This was all leaked by a Samsung rep.

So why is the 4 form factor an issue? Sure it looks great, but it's also uncomfortable to hold and easier to break. If they at least replace the back glass with metal, I will be sold.

Don't need to read any further.

Yawn. I don't care about specs, show me what it can do. Does it have 1080p video w/ an f2.4 lens? Does it have a personal voice assistant? If so then demo that, don't throw worthless specs at me. It's a phone, not a PC.

4.6 inch screen... Might as well call it the iPad phone. don't want a Hummer phone, thanks.

That is the fix the android marketplace is in... Google has not made an actual usuable tablet OS for them to munge, so they are stuck.. They are just slowly expanding their way into the mini tablet market.

Problem is Amazon is going to own that with their own improved Android OS... So these guys are stuck... They are going to be squeezed out by Apple and Amazon, and google doesn't give two flips about them as Google will be making their own phones and tablets soon on a brand new OS and Android will be left to die.

I sure as heck would not be investing any money into the Android Ecosystem at this point.

First the Oled is not better than ips retina. A5 is better in performance! iOS 5 is better than ice-cream sandwich os! Siri is better than google's vr. Build quality is better from Apple! :p

Ridiculous. What proof do you have about better CPU / GPU or better battery life? PPI is practically the same. The Nexus Prime shoots 1080P video. Nexus has NFC as well, and (probably) removeable battery and microSD slot. Siri is software. Jeez...you fanboys.

I can understand you fanboys arguing PLATFORM - since that's subjective. But when the hardphone of the 4S is obviously inferior to this and other phones and it's black and white and you can't admit it, you guys act like you are insane. Really.

Tony

And you don't sound exactly like a Andriod fanboy?

Get a case to personalize it that fits you!

Having had Super AMOLED + the deepness of the black color is unmatchable by LCD. That's one thing I liked the most about it. Combine the SAMOLED+ with a high ppi would be a win, that way you don't have to rotate to landscape when reading websites!

everything is better,[...],battery,[...]

Can I have some of whatever this guy has been having?

Better battery life?

Go drink or smoke another one friend...

Note: Posted before I saw the "updated" specs.

I should have known better.

Whats with the 5MP camera?

I'm sure this is the point where Android lovers say if they want a camera, they will just buy a standalone camera instead.

It is kind of ironically funny that spec things that the android supporters always tossed out there are things they are not even better at any more... It makes it hard to be a spec whore when the specs are even worse.... Poor guys.

----------

Apple fanboy will always find way to justify the outdated iphone.

Bigger screen, NFC & LTE....the 4S just barely caught up to the last generation htc and samsung

Bigger, worse screen with LTE and inferior battery life.. Yeah that sounds awesome.

Too bad that does not coincide with what people actually want from their smartphones.

----------

What's with everyone acting like 8MP is automatically better than 5MP? If the Nexus sensor is as good or better than the 4S then there's no problem. I'll take a nice 5MP photo over a crappy 8MP photo any day.

The only problem is it is not better.. It was not better than the old 5MP camera... The new 4S has improved sensors. The gap between the 4S and this phone is massive for both photographs and videos.

----------

I thought we'd gotten past simply judging a camera's quality by the number of pixels. Cramming more pixels onto a small sensor can actually decrease low light performance and increase noise. I'd rather have a lower megapixel sensor with a better lens if this phone has it.

But it doesn't have it. That is the point. Not only do iPhones outperform the android phones in real world performance, now they outspec them as well. It is crazy. This 720P screen too.. It is still not as dense as the iPhone 4 screen which has been out for a year and a half.
