Indeed. If it comes to AT&T I would be tempted to get it over the 4S. That curved design looks pretty comfortable, and that screen! Phew...

That Android Beam thing to send files/info across devices seems nice.

But really, a 4.65-inch screen? what's next, 5 then 6 inch? I thought a mobile phone is supposed to be small.

The reason why it's a bigger screen is because there are no physical buttons and the buttons are on the screen.

It probably doesn't feel big because the screen is stretched bezel to bezel and the physical buttons are gone. This is elegant, and probably what we will see on the next iPhone. It's the design change they should have wowed us with at the event.

Should have?

Yes, Apple should have brought out this design (bezel to bezel screen, no buttons or small elongated home button) at the october 4th event, not a year from now. (which I'm sure is what we will see because it will be a redesign).

Yeah, everyone including me was expecting a larger screen.

I think you are overstating the popularity of larger screens. Android phones have had them for a while. According to Google, a little over 5% of Android users are using a larger screen.

And again, why "should have"? Apple has to consider a few more things than what a small percentage of their users are expecting.

Because the best phones have larger screens. Apple should compete.

Also, consumers want larger screens.

If you look close, the sizes are based on both screen size and pixel density. Given that not many phones out there have 4 to 7 inch screens AND a pixel density of at least 640dp x 480dp, it's not surprising that most users have "normal" sized phones.

Also, what people are currently using has nothing to do with what they might expect for a new phone.

Lastly, I for one think it's a good thing that the 4S' screen size stayed the same. The battery life already seems like its absolutely horrid...imagine what it would be with a bigger screen!

You do realize the majority Android phones out there are mid-low end? They're more likely to have a smaller screen.

not trolling one bit. love and used android. after watching their presentation, i was contemplating on selling my 4s to fund my galaxy nexus purchase (whenever the gsm version drops). after looking at this pic, i realized i most likely will stick with my iphone. while the 3.5 screen is starting to became a tad bit small, the biggest i would go is 4 inches. 3.7 is my sweet spot. im sure the galaxy nexus's screen is drool worthy but size comparison is pretty massive.

ICS looks pretty great actually, I think it's a big step forward for the Android UI. Of course it's really just Honeycomb being brought to phones, but it's a big step up from Gingerbread. The most impressive thing about the Galaxy Nexus is definitely the 720p screen, other than that the phone isn't really particularly impressive but an HD display on a smartphone is really impressive and will be the new standard.

I don't think that article shows what you think it shows. It says the market share of larger screen phones has increased. Not that most people want larger screen phones. According to the same article, the market share of iPhone sized screens has also increased, though much more slowly.

Holy crap

I'm pretty sure that's taller than my SGS2

Sigh. Like it or not. Apple is going to make the screen bigger on the iPhone 5. If not, A LOT of people will be dissapointed.

I would doubt it. But we will see.

Like "fastest selling device ever" or "record holiday sales" disappointed? Or a different kind of disappointed?

And by "A LOT" do you mean hundreds of forum posters and pundits or 10s of millions of customers? ;):D

I'm 80% sure Apple will add a bigger screen since it's the norm of phones now.

The Majority of people will be dissapointed.

You REALLY doubt this? REALLY? REALLLLLLLLLLLLY? I don't think there's any doubt at this point that the iPhone 5 will have a larger display. I'm not saying it will be 4.65" big but I'd bet almost anything that it's at least 4".

This.

A larger screen improves user experience and makes touch control easier. It's also better for watching movies, reading text, internet, etc.

Yep. For a simple reason. Screen resolution. If you aren't gaining any pixels, what's the point in a bigger screen? It would lose the screen density that Apple has advertised so heavily. In exchange for a slight bump in the size of screen elements? Why does a button designed to pressed with a finger need to be bigger?

If you increase the resolution, most apps are going to need to be rewritten. Right now, developers include artwork for retina and non-retina displays. Height and width are simply doubled. Simple. Adding another resolution that doesn't involve the simple pixel doubling will be a much bigger problem in maintaining a pixel perfect interface.

A larger screen improves user experience and makes touch control easier.

Not necessarily.
