i would keep an eye on deshawn jackson...he's going to cost the eagles a game one of these days if he doesn't stop with these pre-endzone antics.

and if the saints won, we would have been in the playoffs.

Falcons move to 12-2

Nice slate of games this week with some interesting results
Saints, Giants and Steelers can't step up
Ravens, Eagles and Jets do

Pittsburgh and Baltimore both 10-4 now
Eagles take the East lead
Saints fall 2 games back of the Birds

Yes interesting games ... your Falcons seem to be the only ones staying on course ... let's see if the Pats can keep pace and if the Bears also go to 10-4

I wasn't so sure of the other games, but I expected Atlanta to win. And also congrats on your 12th win and getting into the playoffs! A little pressure should be off now that the Saints also lost.

But hang on and try to get home field advantage, but your team has been good at home and on the road. At this point, I don't expect anyone to be calling your birds some sort of fluke. I hope you realize that your guys pretty much rule the NFC. (and this isn't easy to say coming from a 49ers fan).

On the AFC side (11:22 pm), leader NE is in the fight for their reputation. Who the heck is this backup GB guy and why are the Packers still in the game, and going for a final drive??

EDIT:

Patriots defense comes through, great game!
That last sack was great and NE came in from both sides and took GB back. When pressure hit, their defense against GBs receivers got a little adrenaline hit late in the game when most would have been tired. I liked how they really put the pressure on and GB didn't seem to expect that. If they can do a few more of these, nobody can stop NE. I have a feeling their D is starting to gel and the timing couldn't be better. This was a very important win for NE and their defense.

Tom Brady now with 27 wins in a row at home. It doesnt matter if its a blowout or a close game, somehow that guy always finds a way to win.

Speaking of great QBs... he may not be "great" in Brady/Manning/etc. terms yet, but he is on his way

Forget 'Ice,' it's Matty 'Elite' Ryan

*Not mentioned in the article, but he is 19-1 in the Dome

Anytime someone calls Atlanta’s Matt Ryan an elite quarterback, it seems to spark debate. So feel free to hit the comments section below or the mailbag.

I’m not sure what the exact definition of an elite quarterback is. But if you simply look at the following numbers (from ESPN Stats & Information and Elias Sports Bureau), I think you have to come to the conclusion that Ryan is elite. At very least he’s walking in elite company.

As we first pointed out last week, Ryan has been winning at an incredible pace in his first three seasons in the league. After Sunday’s victory in Seattle, Ryan’s career record as a starter is 32-12. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, only one quarterback has won more games in his first three seasons. The guy’s name is Dan Marino.

For the record, Marino went 33-10 in his first three seasons. That means Ryan can tie Marino’s victory total with a win against New Orleans on Dec. 27. If he does that, Ryan can break the record with a victory against Carolina in the regular-season finale.

Speaking of Ryan and elite names, he threw three touchdown passes Sunday to bring his career total to 63. That ties him for fourth place in NFL history (going back even before the merger), for touchdown passes in the first three years of a career. The guy he's now tied with? Joe Namath. The only quarterbacks with more touchdown passes in their first three seasons are Marino (98), Peyton Manning (85) and Jeff Garcia (74). All right, Garcia might not quite fit with the other names. But remember, he was taking over for Steve Young and a San Francisco offensive machine that still was mostly in place.

One other stat on Ryan: He now has won nine consecutive starts in December and January, and the Falcons are 9-1 overall in games Ryan has started in December and January during his career.

Yeah, I think he's definitely already a top 10 QB in the league, and he will be top 5 in a few years. I would put him behind Brady, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger, Rodgers, and Rivers currently. I've been a fan of Ryan since his days at BC. He's a really good QB. Very smart and makes good decisions, which is essential. He even reminds me a little bit of Brady.

Last nights game was really good. Brady didn't have a great night, and the Packers defense played phenomenal. They did a good job with generating a solid pass rush, which is essential if you want any chance against Tom Brady's offense. When they get Rodgers back, they could be really good. Patriots/Packers would be an interesting Super Bowl matchup for sure. All they have to do is make the playoffs.

All they have to do is make the playoffs, win a few games like at the Eagles and at the Saints, and then go through the GA Dome and beat the Falcons which they were unable to do earlier this year :)

The Patriots looked very beatable last night ... As for the Falcons, they have risen to the very top of the teams to beat for the Superbowl this year.

I would not be suprised if we were served up another un-competitive blow-out win by the Falcons in this year's Superbowl.

The Falcons look like the team to beat at this point. And the Pats look unstoppable one week and the next week very beatable. But they always find a way to get it done it seems. The teams they'll face in the playoffs will study last night's game tape for sure.

And how about a shout out for my JETS. That was a game not many (including Jets fans) thought they would win, and they went in there and grinded one out. It was a little hairy at the end, but a great win.

Yes the Jets played a great game against a very capable Pittsburg team ... but the story of the Day was for sure the Eagles, Michael Vick and Deshon Jackson.

I have not counted out Flacco and the Ravens yet either.

The Pack had the right game plan. The way to beat Brady is two fold:
Blitz up the middle defensively
Long, grind em out clock chewing drives offensively.
Much like the game plan the Giants used in the SB. I didn't the Pats would get the ball in the third quarter. The Pack's opening drive took forever it seemed. And I never thought I would see an O lineman almost take a KO return to the house. Looked like he was carrying a loaf of bread. Not sure if the Pat's D took the backup QB lightly or not,but they were not their best. Not having Brace and Wright also took away some pass rush which put pressure on the DB's. McCourty was a solid pick. They passed on Mathews to get him..The Pats head to Buffalo and finish at home with Miami...

Thanks for the info on Ryan. I had to admit I didn't realize he was that good, but when I checked out his stats, it was obvious he has potential to be a Brady or a Manning if he continues with great numbers. With you guys in the NFC and the Pats in the AFC, I hope the SB is a matchup between you two. Anything less would cheat us all.

The Falcons were fortunate to pick up Tony Gonzalez when they did.
He has been solid for them and still performs at a very high level.
He is just one of their weapons along with Roddy White, Michael Turner, et. al.

Gonzalez sets league record against Seattle

SEATTLE – Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez became the first player in league history to have 60 catches or more for 12 consecutive seasons on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. His 60th catch of the season came on his second reception, a two-yard gain with 6:21 left in the second quarter.

"It's incredible," said Gonzalez, who was tied with Jerry Rice and finished with four catches for 26 yards. "That's one where I can look back on and say, ‘Wow, Jerry Rice! I got to break a record of his?' That's something that I thought would never be possible."

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was elated to be apart of Gonzalez's record-setting day.

"That's unbelievable," Ryan said. "That's just another notch on his belt."

Ryan admits to being a fan of Gonzalez while growing up in suburban Philadelphia.

"I feel like I've been watching him since I was in the seventh or eighth grade," Ryan said. "But he's been dominating for that long. It's just amazing to see. I've been fortunate to have him in our offense and on our team the last couple of years."

Gonzalez is his 14th season in the league and is already the league's all-time leading receiver for tight ends with 1,061.

"I've been very, very lucky to stay healthy," Gonzalez said. "That's a big part of it, just staying healthy."

So did Coughlin get ****-canned yet??? What was he even thinking:eek: I'll just kick it to the most dangerous punt returner in the league:eek:

And Dawg if I were you I would be a little worried about facing the Eagles in the confence finals...;)
Peace

Coughlin told the kid to kick it out of bounds in no uncertain terms
The kid screwed the pooch, not Coughlin

But the Giants defense should be the ones to get horse whipped
They never should have been in that situation

The Eagles have to come through the Dome and Ryan is 19-1 there
If the Eagles and Vick can come to the Dome and win, they deserve it

The Eagles don't scare me that much. They have shown they can have their off days.

Vick would have to have a game where he could put up a 28-0 lead early like in his banner game if he and the Eagles are to beat Atlanta on their home turf. While this is not impossible, it's about as likely as somebody like the Jets or Ravens coming to NE and beating them there in an AFC matchup.

We could ultimately see the Ravens (who can be inconsistent) and the Eagles (who can be inconsistent) in the SB and while this is not my choice or the choice of many I would assume, it would also be interesting in that not knowing what version of either team goes to battle that day.

Teams I thought that would be counted out by now, Green Bay and the Ravens, still have life in them, and the postseason is a place where many teams find a second wind. I have not followed the Chiefs, either, nor the Jaguars, and the postseason will make football start afresh.

Like nearly every year in football, at least one favorite for a conference title game never makes it there.

Any given Sunday my man...

So did a few others

Personally, I would have liked to have seen somebody flatten him at the goal line while he was prancing around and acting like a jackass. He admitted it wasn't to run out the clock, but to "do something special". I am not a Giants or Eagles fan or hater, but I do look at demonstrations like that as unsportsmanlike, selfish and immature. Score the TD and celebrate with your teammates. Where is Walter Payton when you need him ;)
