So did a few others

Personally, I would have liked to have seen somebody flatten him at the goal line while he was prancing around and acting like a jackass. He admitted it wasn't to run out the clock, but to "do something special". I am not a Giants or Eagles fan or hater, but I do look at demonstrations like that as unsportsmanlike, selfish and immature.
DeSean will get his eventually, he will either drop the ball at the 2 yard line during a playoff game or someone will flatten him. He will learn the hard way.

dot and dawg, like I said, "Any given Sunday"
I sense a little bit of jealousy... lol

dot and dawg, like I said, "Any given Sunday"

You haven't seen me on here crowing about the Falcons as being invincible. I am a realist about my team, and I know the playoffs are a different season. I like our chances with home field, but I know Brees and the Saints can light us up, and so can Vick. The Giants can pound our defense. We have already proven we can lose to the Steelers and the Eagles this year, and the Ravens took us to the wire, as did Green Bay.

So you don't have to preach any given Sunday to me. I know it is a gauntlet for any team to make it to the SB and win. I like our team, our approach and our focus right now, but any team can get hot and win. But like I said, any team that comes into the Dome and knocks the Falcons off I will take my hat off to them, cause they will deserve it... at least on that given Sunday!

I agree with MD ... he has been very humble towards the Falcons this season

I also tend to think ... beating the Falcons in the Dome on the way to the SB will be one daunting task this year.

Where is Walter Payton when you need him ;)

The NFL is too permissive of ridiculous personal celebrations. Jim Brown is often quoted deriding all the prancing and dancing around that is done even after routine tackles. It's one of the lamest aspects of the game. From an old interview:

ESPN interview said:
Bensinger: What do you think Paul Brown [former Browns coach] would have done had one of the Browns' players scored a TD and jumped up and shimmied?

Brown: I don't know what Paul would have done. More important, it's how I feel about it. I think it's a terrible exhibition. It's selfish. I think it's boorish. I think it's corny. And I think it hurts the performances and I think it hurts the game. I see sometimes a guy score a TD and one of his linemen might run to congratulate him, but he doesn't even acknowledge his lineman congratulating him. He's looking at the stands and beating his chest and ignoring his teammate. That's ridiculous. …

But then again, maybe I'm just too old-school, like Jim Brown.

I'm glad your as passionate about your boyz as I am about mine. Relax,it's about having a little fun;)
And by the way I love Matty Ryan being a local kid and all that:cool:

I am a Raiders and 49er fan, so yes, I am jealous.

The truth is I am still riding on the high the SF Giants gave to the Bay Area.

At first we were in a position to obviously come in 2nd in the NL West behind San Diego. They were a machine this year and I fear them next year. Only in the end when the Giants started to actually hit along with their great pitching did I even dream that they could beat Atlanta.

But then after we beat Atlanta, and even hard core Giants fans called the team lucky (this is the Atlanta Braves we are talking about with incredible talent and Georgia's best sports franchise, hands down including 2010), there was no way we could beat the 2008 champion Phillies. If there's any other team besides the Yankees who could pull of a miracle, it's the Atlanta Braves. I thought the Braves would never have the momentum to pitch like they did in the 1990s, but they are still here. The Atlanta Braves pitching staff with their solid hitting is possibly the next best professional sports franchise in that decade, regardless of sport, next to the Yankees (who paid for their 90s dominance). When the Braves had that '90s pitching staff which would be akin to an NFL team having Brady, Manning, and Vick all on the same team as QBs, sports should have renamed the Cy Young Award as the Atlanta Pitching Award. :)

Somehow we beat Philly after the high of beating Atlanta, and on paper it's possible we could take out Texas, but they beat the 2009 champion Yankees. I didn't even believe the World Series win until the last pitch.

So in football, the Raiders and 49ers are done, even though they are still in the hunt according to NFL's site on the standings-playoff picture tab on their site. I have never seen somebody so low on the depth chart win a Super Bowl. It's even more of a longshot than the September 2010 SF Giants were to win it all in baseball. Yes, the higher power delivered the Giants, but it would be too much to ask to have the 49ers this year or Raiders this year win it all.

Like nearly every year in football, at least one favorite for a conference title game never makes it there.

Since the year 2000,only two number one seeds have one the SB. Three of the last six winners have been wild card teams. It's all about who gets hot at the right time...

Or lucky ;)

Nah,can't give em any love yet...Any talk out there of Gruden headed to the 49ers? He's been mentioned in regard to the Miami Hurricanes, but I can't see him making that move..

The Miami Hurricanes job was filled with Temple's coach Golden and not Gruden and Gruden never seriously considered it

Gruden is a God out here in the Bay Area. Even when he took TB to a SB win, we were still impressed and I was secretly proud, even though he beat the Raiders.

But it was the Raiders who were rebuilt under Gruden's Chucky system. Gruden makes you work, and you never piss him off. He's tough but that's how he wins.

Thanks MD...

I'm sure he and Cowher will be linked to quite a few head coaching opportunities...

The soap opera continues (Bold emphasis mine):
As Favre questions swirl, Vikings sign another quarterback
On a day where Brett Favre suddenly could be available to play, the Vikings are adding another option at quarterback.

The Vikings will sign Rhett Bomar off the Giants’ practice squad, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger. It’s unclear when the news will officially be announced, but Bomar is on his way to Minnesota.

The timing is curious because Minnesota signed Patrick Ramsey signed earlier in the week and Favre now seems likely to play Monday night. The team also added R.J. Archer from the practice squad Monday.

The last-minute injury status change for Favre has many folks wondering how fair this is. We can’t remember a player’s status being changed on the day of the game ever before.

“If a player’s medical status changes during the course of the week, the club must update his playing status accordingly prior to the game. That is what the Vikings did when Brett’s status changed today,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement via Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. The Vikings had to request permission from the league to make the change.

Aiello’s explanation makes sense, but why didn’t the Vikings use a doubtful tag for Favre? On Saturday’s official injury report, Favre is listed as “Out.” The NFL defines “Out” as having a “0% chance of playing.”

When it comes to Brett Favre, however, normal rules rarely apply.

Hey, I will take Cowher here, too out west.:D I haven't really followed these two and it will be fun to catch up on all the rumors/stories about them.

And for Favre, I think it's really about time to hang it up. I don't think he can sit still as a sage QB helping from the bench. If he wants to regain any popularity with the fans in general, the best he could do is be an old man backup like Blanda or DeBerg were. And nobody thought any lesser of them.

I know either of them would be welcome here in Houston.

Cowher has a short list

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher is prepared to return to the sideline after a four-year hiatus but he won't take just any job.

A source close to Cowher is adamant that the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and New York Giants are atop his wish list if any of those teams should make a coaching change after the 2010 season.

Cowher has maintained that while he will listen to overtures on coaching jobs he would not discuss any specific team, including those that have already fired their coaches, such as Dallas, Denver and Minnesota.

The Dolphins may be the most intriguing option because owner Steve Ross has wanted to energize his fan base as the team has played second fiddle to the Miami Heat ever since LeBron James and Chris Bosh signed with the NBA team. The Dolphins went into Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills still alive in the playoff hunt at 7-6 but with a 1-5 record at Sun Life Stadium.

The Texans have been considered a talented but underachieving team. However, owner Bob McNair indicated recently that Gary Kubiak's job may be safe but that other changes could be in the offing. If Kubiak remains, those changes are expected to come on the defensive staff.

While the Giants have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Cowher ever since ex-Steeler running back Jerome Bettis linked his former coach to the New York job last year, there have been no indications that Tom Coughlin's job is in jeopardy. Coughlin has one year remaining on his contract and has not been signed to an extension yet.

Asked to rank Cowher's preferred list in order, the source identified New York, Miami and Houston. Each of those markets represent strong ownership with a good talent base, the source said.

Couldn't agree more! I said this three seasons ago. I hope he does it this time and stays retired!

I agree completely. Favre has to realize two things:
He's not bigger than the game
The game doesn't need him

So far,his ego hasn't let that happen..

I think we had a huge crisis when SF did the right thing and had Steve Young take over QB duties in San Francisco. Many fans still had this loyalty to the great service Montana gave to the 49ers from late-1979 to early 1991 with four Super Bowl wins within that long period, and maybe thought Joe was bigger than the 49ers (or the game).

If he wanted to leave on top with people always thinking he had one more in him, this would have been a great time. But while he did some good with the Chiefs after 1992, he was a shell of his really great years. It was sad to see but not nearly as sad as watching Favre right now.

The Bay Area press was most unkind to Montana when he went off to the Chiefs and though I didn't hear a lot of talk show callers talk about an ego, per se, on Montana, many were saying it was over. Favre not only has the unfortunate issue of his age and his ego, but his coaches not being able to reign him in. I don't know if he's hard to deal with like a T.O., but it appears that way. Time will heal all wounds, and the current ugliness around Favre, and his records will do the talking for him.

It was funny when Montana retired from the Chiefs, and then the press was really nice to him. It's almost as if we were supposed to miss him. I think when Favre retires this time, it will be for good, and then we can look back on the positive of this man, but probably do so knowing we also don't have to put up with his so-called ironman persona or what the press has made of his streak which seemed to be more about ego than being a dedicated football player. A true dedicated team player would sit on the bench if they were hurt and a liability to their team. Brett Favre, unfortunately, is not that type of person.
