What happened to the Falcons? I thought MacDawg had anointed them Super Bowl champs already. ;)

At least they didn't take an ass whipping from their Division rival and trail them in the standings :D

I am pretty confident in my team, but check my posts
I have repeatedly indicated their vulnerabilities and long, difficult road
While at the same time pointing out their strengths

I think they will have a rough time in all their playoff games, whoever makes it that far

Or better yet loose the game in the last 13 seconds!!!! And get an a$$ whipping from a team the next week!! :D

But there is a tiny bit of pride in there, don't you think ;)

That being said, if the Super Bowl were held tomorrow, the teams that are most deserving are the Pats and Falcons, overall.

The Pats have had the most improved defense of late climbing from near the bottom to the top half, and the Falcons have allowed the fewest points and turnovers, and have scored the most points and converted the most third downs of any home team in NFL history (at home). But the Super Bowl is not a home game, and also the Pats are among the most effective home teams of all time, too trailing only the Rams in those stats and Green Bay Packers.

The great thing about the Super Bowl, vs the World Series, is that the venue is chosen beforehand, and not something earned. If the Super Bowl was a series, then I could see playing the games at the participating stadiums. But the fact that the venue is neutral, and only can be close to home by accident, makes for some interesting play. Nobody is defending their field or dome.

I like the psychology of what is coming into the big game with probable New Orleans desperately seeking a SB repeat like the Pats last did, the Falcons going for their first ring, and Brady probably seeking a 4th ring to match hometown hero Joe Montana.

Brady is well liked in the Bay Area where he is from and even though he has 3 rings which is amazing, his 4th attempt and shocking loss basically became a monkey on his back which is rather irritating. He didn't go 4 for 4 like Montana (or Bradshaw) did and the fans expected him to do despite tossing 50 TDs in the regular season. I also felt this monkey on Peyton Manning's back before he won the SB after years of people calling him a God after 4,000 yard seasons or Steve Young who had the best numbers at the time but was in Montana's shadow.

And I can't leave out Michael Vick, the loved/hated QB who may be remembered from going to jail to going to the Super Bowl. Even if Vick never makes it to the big game, ever, this season will be one for historians to remember. His 21 point come from behind game was amazing as was his Eagles' 28 points in the first quarter in a regular season game. Should we send more QBs to prison to give them a new perspective? How about send Favre there? :)

I'll always remember him for winning (well, will win) me my first fantasy football league championship. (60 points:eek: in from the second Eagles/Skins game alone) Not bad for a 3rd round pick up. :)

Looks like my Eagles will be getting a bye week after all...

Too bad it is week 17....

Not sure what happened to the Eagles' offensive line these last few weeks, but they couldnt stop a pee-wee team the way they are playing...

Looks like Kolb will get the start on Sunday...

Wow, the Vikes thump the Eagles even when the Eagles had a lot to play for
Surprising, but that's the NFL
No team wins 'em all
And you can lose at the most unlikely of times

Props to the Vikes for bringing it last night:rolleyes: I was there and it was Freak'n Ugly... Dawg like you said "you can lose at the most unlikely of times"

Peace

Well, now that week 16 is over, we know two things:

The Falcons weren't as good as 63dot said.

Brady is the clear cut MVP. Thanks Vick for killing any debate last night. There never should have been any anyways.

What a complete joke
The NFL looks about as stupid as the NCAA

Source: Brett Favre findings soon

The NFL will announce a decision in the Brett Favre/Jenn Sterger case within the next 48 hours, a person familiar with the case told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Favre, currently with the Vikings, is not expected to be suspended, but he will be disciplined, according to the source.

The league has been investigating allegations that Favre sent inappropriate photos and phone messages to Sterger in 2008, when he was the quarterback for the New York Jets and she was a game hostess for the team.

Sterger's manager, Phil Reese, has said his client would like the league to "implement a program" to prevent unwanted advances similar to those she is alleging Favre made.

Reese said Sterger wants the league to discipline Favre before his career ends. "It's not a money story," Reese said, adding his client's goal is some acknowledgment that Favre was in the wrong.

Favre has said this season will be his last.

The Vikings, who have been eliminated from playoff contention, play at Detroit Sunday in their final game of the season. Favre missed Tuesday night's game against the Eagles with concussion-related symptoms. His status for the game against the Lions is unclear.

First I thought that was the case with the Pats-Giants Super Bowl, and then the Jets fell apart and I don't think they are back to top form, then you guys had a bad day with New Orleans, and now MVP candidate Vick and the loss to the hapless Vikings.

I think Atlanta simply had a bad game, but this shows that they can even lose next week if they do what they did (didn't do) against New Orleans. The team peaking right now at the perfect time are the Pats and if they can keep that level of play (and few if no errors), then they should get to the Super Bowl. Once they get there, and I expect them to, they should win unless:

1) Vick and the Eagles are there and Vick decides to both pass and run
2) New Orleans is there and their D is as effective as it was against the Falcons
3) The Falcons are there and played the way they did in their 12 wins and were a complete team

The Pats show no weakness and with their D getting surprisingly better and Brady taking no stupid chances, it's theirs to lose as of now if the Super Bowl was to be held this Sunday.

If I led the Pats, I would bench the key starters to stave off any bad luck since I already have the division and home field. I wouldn't even put the starters (especially Brady) in that game for even a short time as we all saw what happened to Brady in one rather uneventful hit during an uneventful game in 2008.

If I were the Eagles, I would rest, too since there is now no home field to fight for. They have the division and that's as good as it's going to get this year. It appears home field in the NFC is going to go to Atlanta, unless one of the biggest upsets happens ala University of Hawaii type massacre where they routinely take out giants who come in overconfident.

If I were the coach for the Falcons, I wouldn't change anything. The formula has worked and the loss was to perhaps the best team in the NFC, if not the entire NFL. Postseason will show who has got it whether it's the Eagles, Pats, Jets, Bears, or Falcons (or somebody else).

Again, new season after next week and any given Sunday (or game day) in this sport.

What a complete joke

Brett Favre fined $50K by NFL

The NFL has fined Vikings quarterback Brett Favre $50,000 for a "failure to cooperate" with the investigation into allegations he sent inappropriate messages and lewd photos to a former New York Jets game-day hostess.

The league says commissioner Roger Goodell "could not conclude" that Favre violated the league's personal conduct policy based on the evidence currently available.

Goodell told Favre that if he had been found to have violated the NFL's workplace conduct rules he would have been hit with a stiffer penalty.

Favre allegedly sent messages and photos to Sterger two years ago, when they were both with the Jets. The allegations against the 41-year-old quarterback surfaced in October on the website Deadspin.

It posted a video Oct. 7 that included text messages and voicemails allegedly left by the quarterback for Sterger, including one in which he invites her to his hotel. The video ends with several below-the-belt photos -- said to be of Favre -- which allegedly were sent to Sterger.

"The forensic analysis could not establish that Favre sent the objectionable photographs to Sterger," the NFL said in its statement. "The review found no evidence to contradict the statements of both Favre and Sterger that they never met in person, nor was there anything to suggest that Sterger engaged in any inappropriate conduct."

In a memo sent to the NFL's 32 teams Wednesday, Goodell said there are "no excuses for improper or potentially unlawful conduct in the workplace."

"Every member of every club's staff should be able to work in an environment free of harassment or hostility, and one in which every employee is valued, respected, and given a full opportunity to contribute to the goals of the club and the NFL," Goodell said in the statement. "Our new training program on workplace conduct will help all of us to promote the right kind of environment for all employees and I intend to dedicate the fine I have imposed on Favre to help fund that training program."

A former model who also appeared on the Versus television network, Sterger refused to speak on the record to the website. Weeks after the story broke, she talked with league investigators and cooperated fully, according to her manager.

Deadspin editor in chief A.J. Daulerio acknowledged paying a third party for the material it posted on Favre and said that he could not guarantee the material was genuine. Deadspin also reported that Favre pursued two female massage therapists who worked part-time for the Jets, according to one of the women, who spoke anonymously to the website.

The NFL on Wednesday said that it investigated this second allegation but that "misconduct by Favre regarding that claim was unable to be substantiated because individuals with potentially relevant information declined to be interviewed or otherwise cooperate with the investigation."

Citing unidentified sources, Fox Sports reported earlier that Favre admitted to NFL investigators that he left the voicemails but denied sending the inappropriate photos.

A three-time league MVP, Favre has consistently refused to answer reporters' questions about the allegations. He said early on that he had enough to worry about with the Vikings' next opponent, and that's certainly been true this season.

Convinced to come back for one more run at a title by three Minnesota teammates who flew down to see him in Mississippi, Favre's second year with the Vikings has been nothing like the charmed run of last season, which ended with a heartbreaking loss to New Orleans in the NFC Championship Game.

Ever since he threw a critical interception in that game, things haven't been the same for Favre on the field. He's now the 30th-rated passer in the NFL, just ahead of Jimmy Clausen and Derek Anderson, having thrown 19 interceptions after tossing just seven last season.

Favre also has been battered with injuries to his ankle, chin, ribs, back and shoulder -- the last of which ended his NFL record for consecutive starts at 297 three weeks ago. A crushing hit he took against the Buffalo Bills sprained his throwing shoulder and kept him out of the following game, a loss to the New York Giants.

He surprisingly started last week against the Bears, but was knocked out in the second quarter with a concussion and missed Tuesday's victory over Philadelphia.

Despite all of his troubles, Favre has said all along that he did not regret coming back for a 20th NFL season.

"If you had seasons like you did last year, every year, I don't think you would appreciate them nearly as much," said Favre, who has said this season will be his last -- though he has retired and unretired before.

The Vikings finish the season at Detroit on Sunday, and interim coach Leslie Frazier said Favre would start the game if he is healthy.

I wonder is the Eagles wished they played Sunday night after all.

I think it was important for the Eagles to lay that egg. The Falcons lost against a team with a backup QB. The Pats lost against the Browns.

It puts the sport of football into perspective. Any team could beat any team.

A defense could get fired up for just one quarter late in the game and that could make all the difference. A QB could be just a little off in his accuracy that night and throw one pick at the worst time. A running back could be injured and the team failed to realize the gravity of that prior week's injury. And all this being more key than a few bad calls.

It looks like home field for the Falcons (that's not a big surprise) as they are dominating the Panthers. The Steelers will probably win their division, too.

But there's a small chance for Tampa Bay to get into the postseason, and the NFC west is totally up in the air. It's fun when there's a division riding on a single game, the last game, and where the loser doesn't even make it into the playoffs. This one is too close to call.

So much for New Orleans dominance and being hot

The Falcons get home field, and that is big for them
Will be interesting to see the playoffs shake out this year
Any team is capable of getting hot and winning

And the Ravens pull it out. Oh dear my nails hurt. Stupid bad habit.
