I turned it off :(

I kept telling y'all, but nobody would listen
I was not surprised by the loss, I knew it was a good possibility
I would have preferred it not have been a total ass whipping, but hey
At least it is motivation to work the draft and free agency and get some defense in here

Congrats to Green Bay, the won when it counted

Packers are on a roll and gaining confidence, and will be tough to beat
Unless the Pats fall apart, they seem to be the likely AFC team
No way Pittsburgh plays the way they did and beats NE
And the Jets... well, I would be shocked

The Pats and Packers would be a great game

I agree with you on all of what you say except that GB being a threat. Did you see how shocked the pundits were? Nobody had anything of use to say except to keep the studio from dead silence and say a bunch of filler. What happened last night was a huge upset.

Only four times in the last 30 years in the NFC had a #1 seed lost in their first round. It's not something that happens all the time even though two of the four times it happened were in recent years but on different teams with different players.

After the Seahawks game, and now this Green Bay resurgence, I have no predictions right now. Two of the three best teams in the playoffs (NO and Atlanta in the toughest NFL division) are out. The only team I consider on that elite level left are the Pats and they are not facing a mediocre team today. Anything can happen. If the Pats D does not step up big, they can't stop the Jets. Atlanta has a great O but their D failed them when it tried to stop Green Bay and look what happened. You can be a #1 seed but cannot win a playoff game if you leave your defense home.

I hope both the Jets and Pats have watched some football recently and see how true this rings for the absolute need to put on the D, force turnovers, and put the pressure on for every second of a game. Let's see how the Ds work in the NFC side, too.

Here is looking for a Green Bay vs New England game.

The falcon game was bad. For a second there I thought I was watching the Giants playing Phily with the butt whipping take over a game, lay a huge egg game.

Sorry bout that MacDawg. Maybe next year. Your team is pretty much a young team and I can see them going far in the future.

Our defense, especially the secondary, has been weak
I said all along, the Birds are a very good team, but not a great team... yet
They still have work to do, and it shows

But the playoffs are about who gets hot
And Atlanta is a steady team, not prone to streaks up or down

My fear is they will be come the Braves of the football world
Great in the regular season, but unable to rise to the occasion in the post season

Atlanta Braves did win a World Series. Some may argue that more should have been won having three pitchers being Cy Young material.

Being in SF, I know the value of just winning one. All those years we had with Mays, Bonds, Clark, Williams, Spier, Blue, coach Baker, etc. (with the longest list of Hall of Fame players in MLB with a strong showing from SF) and only one ring? Yes, but that ring makes it all worth it.

And liking the A's as my second team, we got only one ring with Stewart, McGwire, Henderson, Canseco, and company.

Congrats to Hotlanta's year, they played very well and came up against a packer team that was MUCH better than their 6 losses indicated. Remember, the packers 6 losses were by an average of 3.33 points per game. four 3-point losses and two 4-point losses, both of those coming when Rodgers was injured.

Atlanta is a solid young team that should produce some exciting seasons coming up.

As I've been saying all along, anything can happen in this game. Jets could pull out a stunner in foxboro and the seahawks could use momentum to take out the Bears. It's what makes it so fun to watch!

Sorry for the loss MacDawg ... I know you were cautious towards the Packers.

I thought they would have stayed with them.

I'd love to see a Packers/Bears matchup OUTSIDE in the snow in Soldier field... Smashmouth baby...:D:cool:

The Falcons need defense... specifically some playmakers on defense
A shut down corner, a brutal linebacker, a fierce front... something to give identity

I said this waaay back, they have nobody on defense that is a standout
Abraham is going to the ProBowl as to the only defender while several go from the offense
Abraham is a situational player only

We need a Clay Mathews, a Polamalu, an Ed Reed, somebody to be a beast on defense and lead that side of the ball

The Seahawks sure are looking like a 7-9 team in the 1st half ... very boring game ... bring on the Jets

I want the Jets to win for the same reasons the Jets have been saying all this week.

I have never liked Brady and the way he does that pointing.

Jets will need to do more than just talk if they are going to have a chance
There is a bigger gap between Brady and Sanchez than there was in any other QB matchup in the playoffs

I hear ya ... my Brady hate goes back to that tuck play against Oakland in the snow ... I clearly saw him fumble the ball ... Oakland got burned, and then it started ... you have that whole taping the opposition stuff.

When the Giants won the SB ... It felt great ... and being a Cowboys fan ... I despise the Giants, Eagles, and Redskins.

Go Jets

Sanchez is going to have to have the game of his life. He can't fake it for 3 quarters like he did against the Colts. Of course, this will be a lot easier if they can establish the run early. But he's going to have to show that he can make plays...I know he has a reputation of being clutch in those last minute drives..but if he isn't clutch in all 4 quarters they won't have a chance.

And of course, we pray...:D

On a side note, anyone have any ideas on how I can take a 4 hour break at work without anyone noticing?

That's football, man. We should have beat NE, but they simply outplayed us.

Did you see Atlanta's late fumble last night, oops camera showed Atlanta recovering, but refs called it early for Green Bay and let it stand. By the time replay showed the refs were wrong, the game went on.

Sometimes it's not easy to see from just one camera angle.

When a ball goes down and a QB falls on it or another offensive player falls on it and the balls stops, then the play stops. But then factor in all the D players trying to strip the ball and falling all over you (as well as unintended contact from O players falling on the QB) then it's truly hard to see if the ball stopped in the hands of an O player or D player.

Put into context that Atlanta up to the GB game yesterday had fewer turnovers of any team in NFL history but for one team. And then suddenly Atlanta gives up the ball a supposed four times. It was one time less, but even three turnovers in one game from a ball stingy team like Atlanta is hard to fathom. 13 turnovers all season, and then 3 or 4 in one game?

House just got broken into? Water pipe burst? Dog just bit the neighbour? Sunday night funeral home viewing?

Yeah but the Brady fumble in the snow gave them the game ... the Atlanta game was not close.

LOL Thanks.

I'll start at 1 and just go down the line. It certainly does not help that I'm the only Jets fan in the office. And unfortunately, everyone knows it.

Damn Texans.

Jets game on? ... hmm, I didn't know ... darn, now I am gonna miss 2 of my favourite things ... work and the game.

That's what I am talking about ... we are playing Jets Football.

I figured ... as long as NE did not jump out to a big lead ... the Jets would set the pace.

Go Jets

a few thoughts about the falcons. my entire family was laughing at the falcons all last night at their failure. say what you want about the saints losing to the seachickens (it stings), but we lost close. the falcons got doubled up at home as the #1 seed, and the packer fans took over the stadium.

first, they are very vanilla when it comes on offense. play it safe, not alot of big plays (last in the league in plays over 20 yards). that means you can't come back from a big hole.

second, matt ryan's new nickname is now 'slushie' until further notice. no playoff wins yet, and definitely not elite.

third, i thought all season that the falcons were showing off a better record than their play indicated, with a few lucky things going in their way to come back at the end of games. they were good, but not the best team in the nfc.

fourth, atlanta fans stink. leaving in the middle of the game like that. no wonder the town has a bad fan reputation of not showing up.

oh well, macdawg, you're with me, waiting for braves season to start up.

I rarely take joy in another team's misfortune (other than the Gators). I was shocked at the Saint's loss, but I took no pleasure in it. I actually rooted hard for the Saints last season to win it all.

I think we will find that the Falcons lost to the eventual NFC winners, the Packers, not a 7-9 team that many felt didn't deserve to be in the playoffs period.

They led the league in long drives over 10 plays and time of possession. They are methodical and workmanlike running the ball and play action. Vanilla? Perhaps. Efficient? Yes.

Unable to come back from a big hole? Maybe, although their ability to come back and win in close games has served them well. The ability to come back from a big hole is determined by a number of factors.

second, matt ryan's new nickname is now 'slushie' until further notice. no playoff wins yet, and definitely not elite.

Aaron Rodgers didn't get his first playoff win till the Eagle's game. Ryan's time will come. This is only his third year. Elite? Maybe not, but certainly better than most of the QB's in the league, and far more consistent.

Brees is a phenomenal QB, but this wasn't his best season either. His pick level was unacceptable for an elite QB himself.

third, i thought all season that the falcons were showing off a better record than their play indicated, with a few lucky things going in their way to come back at the end of games. they were good, but not the best team in the nfc.

Luck plays in all of the games, and the ability to win a close game is important. All teams could point to a play here or there that goes one way or the other and it changes a game. Woulda, coulda, shoulda is a game we all play but we all lose at.

fourth, atlanta fans stink. leaving in the middle of the game like that. no wonder the town has a bad fan reputation of not showing up.

Atlanta doesn't have the best reputation for fans in any sport, that's true. But I think the fan base for the Falcons is growing. 3 winning seasons in a row, for the first time in franchise history. Playoffs. Top seed. I think the fans are beginning to appreciate their team, but it will take time.

oh well, macdawg, you're with me, waiting for braves season to start up.

Not sure what to expect from the Braves this year... it will be life without Bobby, and that can be a good thing... or a bad thing. Chipper is still banged up. There are a lot of questions marks. But that's why they play the game. Let's hope Heyward doesn't have a freshman slump.

Jets playing well
Pats, not so much

Surprising, but this is the NFL
Should be an interesting second half

Neither look like an NFL team right now. This is downright scary with defenses missing everything in sight yet offenses unable to cash in. Why do both QBs leave so many receivers open? These guys look like second string QBs and it's late into the third quarter with nobody past 120 yards passing??

Win or lose, if this is what the Patriots are up to with rest, then there's no way they can take on the Steelers. However, every team is entitled to one poor game if they win. I say this uncharacteristic New England game is just a bad day. Typical Tom Brady would be up to 28 points by now if not more.

We saw an uncharacteristically bad day by Atlanta but in their case it cost them the game. My guess is that this NY-NE game isn't over until the bell because if anybody left on the AFC side can come back with having to get two scores left in the second half, it's New England. It's not as if they are as behind as far as the other #1 seed was in the GB-Atl game.
