No owner will fire a coach who won 11 straight games coming into the playoffs. 13-3 and division champion will make any coach's job secure, unless, those 3 losses were all crucial games in the end.
Tell that to 14-2 Marty

The Jets are playing great. I'm gonna just bask in this little bit of glory. This team will be contender year in and year out for a little bit.

They are playing great, but they're just this year's version of the Atlanta Falcons. Next season they'll finish at 7-9.
BTW, if you earned a bi-week, shouldn't that be viewed same as a playoff win?![]()
I don't think so. This team was close to being 12-4 if either Sanchez didn't get picked or the defense not showing up.
Make no mistake, we have flaws (see WR) but this team is just gonna get better.
Uh... this team was close to finishing 7-9 before their last two opponents pulled starters.
Uh... this team was close to finishing 7-9 before their last two opponents pulled starters.
True, but their 9-7 record is now valid since they have beaten two very good teams on the road, no matter what happens in Indy.
^If the Jets made it to the AFC Championship, I'd crap myself.
Would love to see the Jets beat the team that bent over and let them in the playoffs...With their D,it's going to be a great game.
The Jets' success has less to do with Sanchez than it does with the Jets' defense and running game. After all, the Ravens won with Trent Dilfer.
He may well develop into a good QB, but right now, he is just a caretaker who needs to protect the ball and give his team a chance to win.

Schottenheimers are smiling

It's no secret that there is no love lost between San Diego GM A.J. Smith and Marty Schottenheimer, who was fired following a 14-2 season in 2006 because Smith didn't think he could coach the Chargers to a championship.
"I said at the time," Smith recalled, "that we needed to find a head coach who can handle the pressure and make some noise in the playoffs."
The only noise made Sunday by the Chargers, now coached by Norv Turner, was a resounding flop, as they were upset by the Jets in San Diego, 17-14, in a game in which the pressure clearly got to them.
How else to explain the rash of penalites and personal fouls called on the Chargers, as well as the three missed field goals by all-pro kicker Nate Kaeding, who missed only three all season?
So it had to be extremely satisfying to Schottenheimer that his son, Brian, was calling the offensive plays on the sidline for the upstart Jets and their rookie QB, Mark Sanchez.
After Being a Florida Icon, Tebow Becomes an N.F.L. Question Mark
The opinions on Tebow are diverse. For everyone who sees Tebow as a franchise quarterback, there are just as many who project him as an H-back.
“He scares me,” said Brian Billick, the former Baltimore Ravens coach who will be part of the broadcasting crew for the Sugar Bowl. “You love the kid. If there is a fair God above, he’ll have a successful N.F.L. career.”
Billick said he spoke with five N.F.L. personnel officials and none of them had Tebow graded in the first round. Billick called Tebow’s throwing motion “scary,” noting that his delivery started near his knees. He said that he liked a comment made by Lou Holtz, the former Notre Dame coach, that Tebow would have been the first linebacker taken in the draft last year.
Edit:
Does Tebow play in the NFL as a QB or an H back in the wildcat,or a TE?

Does he play at all?
or will he be a bust?
On another note... ESPN reporting the Bills will likely name Chan Gailey their new head coach
Really? I mean, really??
C'mon, you're interviewing Leslie Frazier, whose defense just demolished the Cowboys, and you are going to hire Chan Gailey?

Report: Gailey expected to be next Bills head coach
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 18, 2010 5:17 PM ET
We have a new leader in the clubhouse for the Bills head coaching position.
Jay Glazer of Fox reports that Chan Gailey is expected to meet with the Bills for a second time Monday. Barring a breakdown in talks, he should be named the coach in the next 24-48 hours.
It's a stunning turn because Gailey's name has not been mentioned previously for the job, and his meeting with the Bills last week was in secret.
Gailey, 58, would not be a particularly splashy pick for the Bills. But he would fit G.M. Buddy Nix's profile: He's an offensive coach with head coaching experience.
Gailey ran the Cowboys in the late 90's and has offensive coordinator stints in Pittsburgh, Miami, and last with Kansas City. He was the head coach at Georgia Tech from 2002-2007 and is known for a run-first approach.
We can't help but wonder if Gailey's name came up when the Bills pursued Bill Cowher. When Cowher stepped down in Pittsburgh, he recommended Gailey to be his successor.
Bill Sheridan lands in Miami
Bill Sheridan did a fine job in four seasons as linebackers coach with the Giants -- good enough to inherit the defensive coordinator position once Steve Spagnuolo became head coach of the Rams.
As defensive coordinator with the Giants, Sheridan did well enough to get fired after only one year.
So now he'll get another crack at being a linebackers coach, with the Dolphins. Specifically, he'll coach the team's inside linebackers.
The Dolphins announced the move this morning.
The Giants used a 4-3 front for all of Sheridan's time there. Miami employs a 3-4 attack.
Denver's D was improved over last year's D. Don't get it..Unless McDaniels is doing to get his old pal Dean Pees to Denver??Dolphins hire Nolan
Yesterday at this time, Mike Nolan was the defensive coordinator of the Broncos.
Today, he's the defensive coordinator of the Dolphins.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the deal is done.
It's still not clear why Nolan and Broncos coach Josh McDaniels mutually decided to part ways. But, apparently, Nolan had a bird in the hand before he bolted from the Broncos.
Fassel?Trestman?Gilbride?Oh Al,what are you thinking??Leach wouldn't be a bad choice..He got a raw deal,IMO..Raiders have been interviewing head-coaching candidates
And the similarities between the Raiders and the Redskins continue.
The Redskins interviewed at least one head-coaching candidate before firing Jim Zorn. The Raiders, according to David White of the San Francisco Chronicle, have interviewed at least two, even though they already have a head coach.
The candidates for the vacancy that doesn't yet exist are former Giants coach and current Las Vegas Locos (UFL) coach Jim Fassel and former Raiders offensive coordinator Marc Trestman, a long-time NFL assistant coach who currently runs the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.
Per White, the Raiders might interview Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride and/or Packers assistant head coach/inside linebackers Winston Moss. It's possible that one or both men already have been interviewed; both were considered for the job last season, before it went to Tom Cable.
An interview of Moss would satisfy the league's Rooney Rule, which requires at least one minority candidate to be considered for each head-coaching vacancy.
Other potential candidates, as we've heard it, include Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh and former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach.
So it appears that owner Al Davis plans to size up his alternatives before deciding whether to pull the plug on Cable. And Davis apparently has more options than most thought would be interested in the job.
As Buffalo G.M. Buddy Nix said Tuesday while introducing new Bills coach Chan Gailey (via ESPN), "Don't ever think you can't fill coaching jobs, even if they're bad. Oakland gets a lot of call."
Nix then added, "Don't say I said that. I wish I hadn't."
It would have been better if he'd simply closed with, "Boom. Roasted."
Fassel?Trestman?Gilbride?Oh Al,what are you thinking??Leach wouldn't be a bad choice..He got a raw deal,IMO..
Whomever Al Davis chooses, it'll be the worst possible choice.IMO, his gone over the deep end. I can't remember any recent 1st rounder the Raiders have chosen who hasn't been a bust. It's sad to see one of the greatest minds in football collapse so completely. Black Hole doesn't describe part of the Raiders' stadium anymore, it describes the Raiders owner's mind.
Al Davis needs to had over the reigns to his GM and whoever is going to be Head Coach (hopefully Cable). They got better after he benched JaMarcus Russell.
. It's a tossup which team head office makes weirder choices.
Al and the Raiders will always win that toss up..I think he's there until he passes on..
When that happens, can you PM me?
No, just kidding. That's in bad taste. I wish Al a very happy and quiet retirement away from football.
Now while Al has the excuse of dementia, what excuse do Niners' owners Mr. and Mrs. York have?
