Actually scrub that, I just ordered a Mini. So the Mini is the best looking Mac. ;)

I'm with you. I think the best-looking Mac is the one I own. Surpassed only my the one I buy next.

That said, I will always like the first Macintosh. As a junior in high school at the time of its debut, I remember that design well.

Defidantly the PowerMac G5

Its so cool looking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the Mac mini... heck, anything with the Brushed metal thing!!!

Wow, this question is hard. I think the number 1 design has to go to the iMac G4. I only owned one for a couple of months before I needed a laptop, but the time I had it was great. The screen seemed so light and just floated. The Cube and the mini have a similiar design, but I think I like the Cube's a little better.

iMac G4

Honorable mentions:
PowerBook G4 (Aluminum)
PowerMac Quicksilver
PowerMac Cube
Mac mini

If you've actually seen the iMac G5 20" there on your desk you never have to ask this question again. Even better looking than my cube. And I love my cube intensely. Not carnally, but intensely.

PowerMac G5
17" PowerBook
Xserve G5
MDD
Cube
(I like Aluminum and light materials)

:D

confused...

im a relatively new switcher, and new to the whole mac idea... so do you think we could post some pics of your favorites so i can know what you're describing when you say things like cube and quicksilver...

here is some nice pics of almost every mac....

i have a cube. I stare at it alot - It is the overall best engineered computer. (one of them)

iMac G4

With Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Any Desktop with all those wire take away from the beauty of simplicity.

the iMac G4 just has so much personality it has to be right up there. I personally like the original iPod design, it was very underrated and almost too simple people didn't know how to handle it. I still get impressed by the Titanium PowerBooks. And now I am falling for the Mac Mini, it is just soo small and simple.

What does everyone think has been the nicest looking Mac design over the years?

The one with my name on it is the nicest looking Mac ;)

As for those that don't have my name, I like the look of the white iBooks and the Quicksilver.

I don't like the look of the G5 at all, it might be an original design, but it's just so boring. And I also really dislike the fact that it only has room for one optical drive, unlike their earlier models.

Pismo. I still want one.

Of course the Lombards and Wallstreets are just as good looking.

Five Runners up:
iMac G4
iMac G3
iBook Clamshell
4th Gen iPod
1st/2nd Gen iPod

Uglyiest... anything from the beige era ... 7500 anyone?

See, now thats where I disagree. Apple made even beige look good. I'm propping my feet up on a PowerTower Pro 250 right now, and even though it was a better Mac than Apple was capable of producing I still kept my 6500 out in the open just because it looked much better. As for the best ever, I'll pick a desktop and a laptop..... I gotta go with the Cube, because it didn't sacrifice form for function (cough,Mini, cough, cough), and the Pismo, for being sexier (if less elegant) than the TiBooks.

even looking at most of the older systems, i still think that either my mom's 14" iBook or my 12" PB turn heads with her white plastic and my aluminum... there's just something about that glowin apple on the front... i know my dad's dell logo doesn't glow...

No No No: Ugliest Apple - G3 All in One, followed by PowerMac 4400, followed by the "I've go the biggest desk footprint on the planet" Centris 660/ PowerMac 6100 pizzabox (XXLarge). The Quadra 900/950 behemoths are kinda Lurch-like.

Most puzzling: G4 Mirror Drive Door. I guess you could use those doors for shaving, but it hurts the back too much to bend way down to them. What are those 4 holes in the front? Supercharger inlet ports? JATO rocket nozzles?

Best looking: Mini & an Aluminum Cinema display, hands down.

The 7100/7500/7600 have a utilitarian desktop ethic, descended from the IIcx/IIci. Certainly a much better case than the 8100/8500 from a service point of view. But I hate case designs that put the ports at the back under an overhang so you can't reach the damn things...

Remember the IIcx launch where they brought a table of component parts onstage and assembled the machine live in under 2 minutes and booted it up? Woo hoo.

Thanks

In no particular order, my top choices:
Powerbook G3 (except Kanga) - beautiful, but before my time.
Powerbook G4 (except Aluminum) - proud owner of a 1GHz Titanium Powerbook with superdrive.
iMac G4 - someday I will pick up a used one just to look at.
Cube - probably will always be outside of my grasp... but someday
Quicksilver Power Mac G4 - In years to come, I'll get one as a backup
Blue & White G3 - proud owner of 2.
1st, 2nd, and 4th Generation iPods - iPod user since 2001, and I extremely dislike the controls on my 3rd Gen, waiting for it to die, so I can get a new one.

I've been pretty much a fan of everything since Steve has come back. I agree with an earlier post about apple even making beige look good, the 6500s were pretty, and I've always wanted a 8600/9600/G3 Tower.

I think the Quicksilver G4's (Pre Mirrored Drive Door version) are up there definetly.

Yes--the G4 towers immediately PRE-mirrored doors (what's with those 4 holes?) were the nicest looking computer ever in my book.

I do like Apple's current minimalist design direction, though--even the G5 towers. The current iMac G5 would be my second choice after those G4 towers.

And I'd say my eMac (WITHOUT the ugly optional grilles, thank you) is right up there! It may be a CRT, but it's a great-looking one! Visitors are always impressed by my "monitor" and then ask where the tower is ;)

The Cube and white iBooks--especially when they had the thick clear shell and the white UNDERNEATH--deserve special mention as well.

My top five:
-Al Powerbooks....small, sleek, and the glowing Apple gets a lot of attention
-Mac mini....the only computer I know of that fits in a DIN slot in most cars!
-G5 Powermac....Yeah it's big, but it commands respect!
-Cube....Though I prob would never have gotten one, you gotta appreciate the design, especially for the time
-TAM (20th Anniversary Mac)....I dunno why I like this one, I just do! :p
