I am very fond of my Mini. Definitely attractive, minimalist (just how I like it!).

The cube is another looker, in its day it was awesome. The mac laptops have always been attractive. The G5 looks great to me as well.

Apple definitely pumps out some sexy hardware!

Uglyiest... anything from the beige era ... 7500 anyone?

Well, I agree that my <understatement>7500 isn't the nicest design Apple has come up with</understatement>... But I think, at least, the 8600 was worse...

...what's with the extra pizza box stacked up against the casing...?

Pismo. I still want one.

Of course the Lombards and Wallstreets are just as good looking.

Five Runners up:
iMac G4
iMac G3
iBook Clamshell
4th Gen iPod
1st/2nd Gen iPod

Both of you mentioned my all time favorite: The clamshell iBook, specially the tangerine... <drooling>mmm... tangerine clamshell...</drooling> (Ok, its official, I've been watching too much Simpsons lately..)

Also kind of liked the looks of the Pismo, even had one for almost 4 years, until I replaced it with my current iBook in Nov 2003. The Pismo is still going strong though, my girlfriend is using it as her workhorse in her work as AD and web designer.

The Mac mini is also nice and COULD become a classic, given time... no pun intended... :)

Well, I'm sort of torn between different models.

For the desktops I prefer the Cube or the iMac G4.

For laptops the alu 15" powerbook and the iBook (OK, I'm biassed here :D . The 12" is sooooo cute and the 14" well I wouldn't have got him if I thought him to be ugly ... )

I also greatly prefer the design of the older cinema displays to the new aluminum displays.

I would love to own a Blue G3 tower and LCD display with all the blue gubbins-just wish i could buy one and fit a full G5/G4 in it (not just the upgrade cards but a full system!) :D
I also like the iBook clamshell-Key lime ;)
iMac G5 is pretty gucci too.
I don't know there's just too much choice, but those are my top three.

After thinking about your question, nicest looking isn't always the most important thing.

I like the iLamp G4 design. The design of the PowerMac G4 MDD is very nice, especially when you want to open it up and add a disk or a PCI card. I like the Titanium and Aluminum PowerBooks for how compact they are. I'm torn between prefering the connections in the back versus on the sides.

However, the most important things are:
  1. Does the machine do what you need?
  2. Are the cable connections in a reasonable location?
  3. How quiet it is.
  4. and other things like that.

I think that in this thread, performance is not important. Strictly looks.

who knows, someone at apple may be reading this and see what "look" we prefer and design the newer models accordingly
On the other hand, why would they, most of us buy there stuff anyway, no matter how it looks, and new designs may convert some bored PC users ...

Which is why I did include my comments on the iLamp G4and the MDD PowerMac. One of the things I like about the iLamp is that it's damn difficult to know to over by accident.

Well, considering what the alternative is, yeah, I can see where we'll buy almost no matter what the design is.

As for the looks of the PowerMac G5, not great, but now bad. I just wish it was set up to handle one or two more disks internally.

I thought the Powerbook Duo was pretty sweet looking when I had one. However, now looking at the picture it looks pretty clunky. Still it was an awesome feeling sliding that baby into the DuoDock. I think I'd have to go with the TiBook as the all-time best-looking Mac.

I still like the original G3 iMac...

Many of my friends have clung onto them through thick & thin.

Of the Power Mac G4, the mirrored door is the one that I disliked most. The original quick silver is my favorite. IMHO the current Power Mac G5 tops them all. The current iMac also get my vote. I just think that Apple gets better with each new design, except in the case of the PM G4.

I say that the Mac mini is the best looking. I saw this pic in a how-to on Engadget (setting up a cheap recording studio with a Mac mini and GarageBand)

In my opinion, THAT is beautiful. The perfect reflection on the top of the Mac mini...

That is a great picture of the Mac mini!!!

Saving this to my computer... another one to add to the "computer porn" folder, featuring pics of the iMac G5 and PowerMac G5 with the insides exposed... ooooh! lol :p   :p  :D ;) :p

WOW!

Nice picture Jalexster!

 :D :)

Pismo. - I lament the loss of curves in Apple Design.
B&W. - I like Blue. Also such a radical departure from it's beige predecessor.
PMG4(GE & DA). - continuation of same lines as B&W, only in understated greys.
Cube - Design excellence.
tiBook - radical departure from Pismo (in opposite direction). Very attractive in opposite ways to Pismo. Not as "useable" art in my opinion, however.

I am not a big fan of white computers, so iMacs are out...mini may make it onto the list once I see one in person.

For me the PowerMac G5. Damn that thing's so sexy, every time I think about it I want to mount it... ;)

Next would be the iMac G4. It has real personality/character.

Next is the Al PowerBooks.

Next is the iMac G5.

Finally, the Mac Mini.

I really like the current Alu Macs- PowerBooks and PowerMacs. They belong in musems IMO (modern/ contemporary art.)

A special shoutout goes to the G3 iMac. That computer set the tone for Apple's design resurgence, and still looks great today. The slot-loading, fanless model was particularly sweet.

The iMac was also the most-imitated computer ever. Not so much by other computers (since no other maker ever got it right), but by lots of office equipment in general- for awhile you could buy anything you wanted in translucent white and blue plastic.

Someonese mentioned lamenting the loss of curves. It will be interesting to see where Apple goes next. In general, the 'Apple as a car company' comparisons are tired, but I think BMW has some nice designs now, with curves but more angular. Maybe Apple will go somewhere in that direction, since it better fits metal IMO. I'm thinking about the Z4 in particular, but I know that's a very controversial model.

OTOH, with the PowerBook it is all about thin form factor. It's hard to keep it thin and sleek when you have too many curves or protrusions. Apple will find a way though, you can do this sort of thing so that a small difference in actual dimensions creates a big difference in perception. Especially if it has some functional benefit (maybe to help cooling or increase battery size a small bit.)

G4 iMac
Mac mini
G5 iMac 20"
20th Aniversary (was way ahead)
cube
Al PowerBooks

Still like the Plus & Classic all-n-ones.

it's the Quicksilver for me, I love that thing, though the MDD is very close, I like the added reflective aesthetic. the mac mini is cool, but maybe i'm just a sucker for pro machines.
I also love my alubook 15" but the old 17" i had looked better to me, it just blew me away
