Currently Jettison will not remount the SD card. You can set Jettison to not eject the SD card by holding down the Option key and click on the Jettison icon in the menubar. Select "Preferences with Extras" from the menu, then click on the Extras tab in the prefs window. There are options to excluded external drives and include internal drives.

Which version of Jettison and OS are you using? The method I described may only be in the next build which I don't know if it is released yet.

Leaving the SD card inserted can prevent hibernation, which is a deep sleep that gets activated an hour or so after the computer goes to sleep.

I don't mind the hibernation issue.
It's quite annoying it won't remount them though. I'm using the latest version from the Mac App Store on 10.8.3.

It seems jettison won't eject my SD either. When I open my mac it says it couldn't eject because itunes is using my sd card even though I've quite iTunes.

How could anyone have one large enough to do Time Machine backups to? A SD card big enough must be hundreds of dollars? Doesn't time machine need like at least your hard drive size?

Can you eject the SD card from the finder, or does it tell you its in use?

I hear remounting a SD card safely and without opening back door security holes is not that simple with the newer OSs.

I leave my SD card permanently inserted and exclude it from the eject list.

Yeah I can eject it from the Finder without a problem. This is quite annoying because it makes Jettison useless for me.

Contact the Jettison developer, contact info on the app store page as that busy thing doesn't seem right.

I still find Jettison useful and perhaps worth the $2. I just leave the SD card inserted 24/7.

I think that some are missing the point here. It's not whether or not you can buy or make a cheap alternative. You are not paying for an SD adapter, you are paying for a designed SD adapter. You may or may not think the looks worth the extra $$$, but that's up to you.

i think i'll get one, to use with a 64/128 GB card, so i have someplace I can put movies from an external HDD (which is not always connected to my computer, as it's not very mobile) and watch on my computer (and replace them at will).

edit: went through kickstarter and their website but didn't find anywhere to buy it. am i missing something?

not system

some people only backup the Home user folder data, and not the system, applications, etc. My secondary backups which only include that data are about 20GB in size.

That makes sense. I wasn't even aware you could do that. I think I'd like to be able to do everything just in case, it'd be good to have my files but I'd prefer to not lose applications too.

Hopefully micro sd's drop in price in the near future, I really want to pick one of these up.

so, don't get me wrong, I HAVE a full backup, and a CCC backup and do once a month a backup to the full backup, which includes applications, system, etc. But, for me I don't add a bunch of apps daily/weekly and don't do a bunch of system updates. So, that backup, running once a month to a TC in the house is fine.

But then, I have a little SD card which contains all my daily data, email changes, documents, desktop, everything that CAN and DOES change daily - sometimes hourly. I'd really like to get that off the SD card (and thumbdrive) backup and onto the nifty for regular hourly backup. For that, I only need the 20GB total. So, my 32GB Class 10 SD card works fine - and does my itunes backup too!

That sounds like a great idea actually. Use the SD card for everyday stuff just so you don't lose anything and when you get around to it connect a bigger HD for a full backup maybe weekly or semi weekly. I'm going to look into doing that. It's kind of a pain to remember to connect my external drive all the time, usually an sd card would make it much less important to remember daily

Any ideas when the 128gb micro SD's will be available?

Probably not, folks were waiting several weeks at one time.

Search for minidrive on amazon and you should find several alternatives.

The rMBP has a thinner SD slot, so the adapters designed for other Mac laptops may need to be filed down a bit to work.

Yes, that was the case with my Nifty adapter, had to sand it a little bit to make it fit.

Anyone have a Nifty MiniDrive they'd want to sell? Or do you know how to order one? Looking for one for my 15" rMBP.

Not interest in the knock offs on Amazon or eBay.

When my first set arrives (Ordered July last year) if it doesn't work out I will have a Black 15" Retina version....

I bought mine in Ebay and price was not a knock off, keep looking there.

I hated the ones they sold half a year ago. I'm still waiting for replacements. They are going to ship them soon, switched suppliers and completely redid the device to make it better.

Will let you know when they arrive.
