Wonderful. Put the thought on hold for a year.

Great so you can see through apples marketing BS. I’m more concerned with real world use if the phones than peoples opinions of real world use, yours falling into the latter.

what real world use are you using a third camera, please provide evidence since the phone now is officially released. There may be a few instance where a few people may require it, but even Apple marketing was trying hard to sell the audience on production quality film making.

please tell me all about using different angles for your production quality movie on a phone that has base 64GB storage and 4GB RAM while calling it Pro, inform me how you are going to notice 2 million:1 contract ratio to the iPhone X/XS. For a Pro phone out does not even have a higher display refresh rate and yes even in dark mode I can see some black objects smear. XDR screen what a joke, at least the Pro Display XDR monitor for the new MacPro is worthy of the marketing. It would have been refreshing if that anti-reflective nano coating made it on a Pro phone, nope I guess offering a Midnight Green option with some production issues was too much for Apple to push the bar in 2019.

As a photographer I'm not justifying my use of what features of the iphone camera are used to shoot various scenes. It's simply too broad a topic and for those who can't see the use, they can't see the use. There are those who will use the various features as they see fit.

RAM and storage are inconsequential to the art of composition in photography of videography. It's more about vision and the equipment use.

While you're trying hard to ding Apple, you're not succeeding. For your reading enjoyment:

Let’s call it what it is shall we a phone with the camera‘s on the rear hence it is called “iPhone” and not iCamera.

I am highly sceptical that when you or most iPhone users mainly use the device as an instant communications product (phone calls, text, email, web surfing, social, shopping). Has this singular device incorporated more since its inception, yes. That Hi-Res photo or vídeo that you just posted on some social media site has been compressed that most viewers will just respond with a reaction, like it, repost or forget about it till something else alerts them. That is the reality we live in today, I welcome someone to only capture a memorable moment such as a wedding on an iPhone “Pro”.

As per the article you posted, do you not find it strange that it was financially funded by Apple. It states due to frugality of the device that was an iPhone 5S being used. Remind me what the iPhone Pro costs again even for a 64GB entry level model.

If an Android phone maker or even Apple provided me a phone and financially funded my short movie project, I will put my sponsor in a positive light. Return when you have unbiased movie projects.

The results speak for themselves, unless you are insinuating the hardware was somehow altered, it's irrelevant where the funding came from.

There are people who aren't bound by preconceived notions of how to use technology.

These are the people that push the art forward.

Return when you have a more cogent argument.

I made no such claim that the hardware was “altered”, I initially stated that I see no production quality films made on an iPhone Pro as Apple is making it out to be. You provided a linked article that started that Apple financially funded some projects that used an iPhone 5S which at that time was being used due to it being cheaper compared to a dedicated video camera. I pointed out that since Apple had a financial role the opinions may be biased. It would have been preferred that some evidence of unbiased production quality movies being provided from an iPhone Pro, as I am sure similar to the promo video that Apple marketing provided but something independent.

There were reports some years ago that some media outlets were using photos taken from an iPhone, not sure what happened to that.

If you are claiming that anyone who has a choice between a RED cinema camera and an iPhone Pro would pick a phone for they production quality work, you are sadly mistaken. That being said I am open to be proven wrong, hence I provided Apple and you the benefit of the doubt by giving it a year. If nothing released this is similar to Apple’s baseless claim of the original MacBook Air being the worlds thinnest and lightest laptop.

Also glad to see that you are intoxicated on the Apple marketing Kool-Aid. Sounds like either you are an Apple employee or paid supporter.

You said production quality films and I provided a link that proved you wrong. Bias is irrelevant to the point of a production quality film.

A RED cinema camera is a red-herring to the discussion you started. Using your own flawed logic, why use a RED for $22K when one can use an IMAX camera for $500,000. Conversely if one can use a RED, when an IMAX is available, one can use an iphone when a RED is available.

At any rate, Apple clearly moved a notch forward with the camera system in the iphone 11 as it's now at the top of the heap.

Out of curiosity did you read the article you provided a link to, I even posted a quote of interest where it stated an iPhone 5S was used due to cost. Please tell me how much an iPhone Pro cost compared to an iPhone 5S.

Film makers use RED because it is the screen format that is mostly used. If those film makers were producing IMAX content then an IMAX capable digital camera would be used, similar to if 3D content is being produced so a 3D camera system would be used and IMAX is that is the screen it is being released on. Production houses such as BBC record in IMAX a it can be down sampled to smaller screens the same cannot be done without loss of quality. The Hobbit as an example used 60fps filming for IMAX 3D.

Content produced on RED can be down sampled, content produced on an iPhone Pro is upsampled with quality loss. The logic you are using is people can make production quality films with an iPhone Pro and released it on IMAX or even IMAX 3D.

I don’t see RED or even IMAX losing any sleep from the iPhone Pro announcement as it it typical Apple BS marketing.

okay there “Pro” iPhone user you must be checking your emails, making calls, texting, web browsing, social network like a Pro or maybe that 4GB RAM, base 64GB storage or lightening connector makes it a Pro compared to an iPhone 11 or even an XS.

move what notch further the one in the front, sorry to burst your perfect Apple bubble, three or more camera system on the rear of a phone has been done long before this Pro model.

What would have been interesting is if Apple could have used one ultra-wide and one telephoto camera while omitting the wide camera to create what is done on a three camera system and produce a wide camera shot via AI/ML.

apple knows best what they can archive in software.. its not all about just the better lenses.

So basically, no rebuttal, most of what's there is irrelevant to the fact, that it is possible to use an iphone to produce a movie. This is all about creative choice and nothing more. Everything mentioned above, is a red-herring as it has been proven it is possible.

The design of the iphone 11, the fact that everybody is tripping over themselves to add more focal lengths for flexibility (like copied from a DSLR) is not relevant to it can be done.

So replace any iOS device with an Android device and the photos and videos still apply, the question is what makes the Pro model different. Remove your bias of operating systems and hardware design.

You do realize that DSLR have the added benefit to attach lenses, not those clip-on parlour tricks. I might as well place reading glasses over the cameras on the iPhone if you want to go down this path.

Plus UW camera lenses has quite a bit of distortion, something I was hoping Apple would have used AI/ML to correct. Hopefully in 2020.

Not discussing DSLR. Remove your bias of the the xs max and iphone 11 pro, which has the best video available in "smartphones". That a lesser iphone was used in the cited links is outstanding. However, you are welcome to use a lesser capable android model to shoot your own movie, because as creative director you are welcome to use anything you want.

I can see it now “Blair Witch Project” shot on an iPhone 11 Pro. I presume anyone can be a “creative director“ these days even with a drainpipe camera.:rolleyes:o_O

Sure, anybody can be anything and produce anything. 😁

Sadly we have been brainwashed with this form of message all too often. Guarantee this does not apply to those wanting to be an astronaut and what it will produce is disappointment from reality. :p

Apple Marketing at its finest, use our products your can be whatever you believe you are and please produce rubbish while you believe it is great as you overspent on our “Pro” phone. Lmao, Apple’s iMovie ads were far more personal and had more meaning. Nowadays they attempt to portray meaning with a “Pro” labelled phone is lame.

Not really. Your XS’s camera is just as good as it was the day you bought it. That’s about all you have a right to ask for.
But iPhone fans constantly brag about updates. So he has every right to expect night mode.

On my android device, I can sideload the google camera app and get night sight. How about that.

You used the term rubbish. You’re welcome to think in a box like that, nobody will deny that right. There are some though that will think out of the box and do what they want and recognize “rubbish” as a mind-set limitation.

My Xs will get iOS 16. 5 years. That’s called updates. How many months will your android device get? At any rate seems like iPhone night mode > google night mode. And then there’s deep fusion. Android has an update for that? How about that?

Even if "iPhone" night mode is better than Google's night sight, your Xs doesn't have night mode.

So what I don’t have a feature that depends on hardware? That’s the name of the game, with every single phone. (Or I could buy nueralcam if I really wanted one single function.) Your android probably doesn’t have android 10.

That's the thing, it doesn't depend on hardware.

That’s the thing. Things like headphone jack, ir blaster, sd card, 4K, etc all depends on hardware. You’re cherry picking one feature that depends on hardware.

Things like dynamic hdr in video and smart hdr depend on hardware. iPhone X doesn’t support all that. So what’s your point?

Do you believe most of what is posted to social media or even released in theatres is worth people’s time?

The amount of quality content released including indie movies and music is rare and far between, that is just reality. You and others are welcome to drink the Apple marketing Kool-Aid, as I await your indie masterpiece to be released on limited screen in the near future completely produced on an iPhone 11Pro Max.

If you were a true content creator you would not be on a forum like MR, do you honestly believe indie film makers are debating the hardware being used vice actually creating and releasing their content. Please message me when you release your original content from your Pro labeled iPhone. ;)
