My wife had a single alarm set for 7.15am yesterday, closed the app, the alarm went off at 7.15, she hit snooze but it never went off again after this - can I blame the wife??? ;)

Snooze actually works only if you keep the app open and running. I should probably make that more clear. I'll also see about adding a background snooze feature in a future update.

Thanks for letting me know! Don't be so quick to blame your wife ;)

Phew! Thanks :)

After the latest update, version 3.0.3, you can now use Nightstand Central's Sleep Timer with any app that supports iOS 4 background audio. You can finally fall asleep to your Pandora music now (and the playback will be stopped after your timer expires).

This even is supported for the iPad - you'll just need at least iOS 4.2 installed.

Will the timer use the vibrate feature of the iPod Touch 4G? I was looking or something to vibrate rather than make sounds.

As far as I know, the iPod touch 4G doesn't have a vibrator. If that's the case, no app will be able to make it vibrate.

That said, my app does support vibration for alarms (with or without sound, as well). You just need an iPhone (currently the only Apple device that comes with a vibrator).

I hope you don't mind me posting here...I'm a new iPad owner and in the market for an alarm app. Reading up on yours, just a couple questions:

Even with iOS 4.2, the app need to be running in the foreground in order for the snooze to work, yes? As long as I "return" the app to the foreground before sleeping, the settings remain and will then be active?

When not in the foreground, can the app access my iTunes and/or pandora as wakeup and/or sleep timer?

Thanks, much, in advance. Looks like a great app. Could be my first purchased app. :p

Cheers.

I don't mind at all :)

When my app isn't running in the foreground, the alarms are pretty limited, unfortunately. Background alarms can't be snoozed, as you mentioned, and they're also limited to one of the included alarm sounds. Unlike the alarms that occur while the app is running, the silent switch and hardware volume effect the background alarms. I wish there were a way for me to get around all of these limitations, but it's actually impossible for my app to "run" in the background. Behind the scenes, the background alarms use Apple's UILocalNotification system, and as of iOS 4.2, that's really the only option.

Because of these limitations, I prefer to think of the background alarms as a sort of insurance in case you forget to launch my app before you go to sleep. It's not ideal, but it's the best that's currently possible.

Also, the sleep timer only works in the foreground, as well. There's a little more wiggle room there - I'm looking into my options for a background sleep timer (to be included in a future update).

I really appreciate your understanding. It's possible that iOS 5.0 will include a lot more features for developers related to the background functionality. I have my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the responses! Bought your app and enjoyed it for 2 nights, so far. I just need to get used to bringing it to the forefront when bedside and I ck email, etc.

Looks great. Looking forward to testing some pics, too.

Cheers.

Great app. Absolutely love the design/characteristics. Runs great, and responds with ease.
5/5 for you, Sir.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it.

I love your app.

Is there any way you could get it to be able to read the day's weather forecast to me as an alarm? Thanks.

Suggestion: On the iPhone 4 flashlight offer an inverse LED screen (black background/white writing-icon). When using the LED flash the bright LCD screen "blinds" you.

Idea: Offer an in App purchase of a 50 or so add on sounds pack for 99¢.

I've never really thought about adding that, but I can definitely consider it. Text-to-speech can be a bit complicated, so I can't promise anything yet. Glad you like the app!

Great App (by FAR best alarm clock App I have found), also please add countdown timer alarm too.

Thanks, Julien! Like I wrote in the other thread, I'll keep the countdown timer in mind for the next update. I'll also consider the in app purchase idea.

That's a good point about the flashlight, too.

Some pretty amazing news:

Nightstand Central Free version (for iPhone) is the #2 Free App (Overall) in the UK and France, #5 in Germany, and #6 in Italy. It's also the #2 Free Productivity app in the US (and moving up the top 200 overall chart).

The paid version is now #23 in the Top Overall Paid apps in the UK, #60 in France, #95 in Germany, and #118 in the US.

This is so far beyond my expectations, and I'm just really thankful to all of you here in the Macrumors forums that helped me start out with iPhone development a year ago. In all honesty, I probably wouldn't be in this position if it weren't for your support early on.

This time last year, I was getting around 10-15 downloads (all apps combined) per day. This has turned out pretty well for what started out as a hobby:D

Congratulations, but it should be doing well because it is a well designed App and the progressive alarm is a killer feature. I will never be able to go back to a full on alarm again.

Now you do know that with success comes responsibility. So now it's time for an update with MY requested features.:D ;)

Thanks! Don't worry - I haven't forgotten the features you requested. I've been busy with college applications lately but everything's submitted now, so I should have more time to work on Nightstand Central.

Apple just approved a new update, version 3.1.1, which brings several improvements and bug fixes

-Made it easier to add multiple photos to Nightstand Central's wallpaper list at once (no more copying and pasting needed!)

-Several weather icons are improved

-Fixed a problem that caused crashing or slow performance for users with many alarms (especially at application startup)

-Improved flashlight

-Fixed crashing that used to occur if the device didn't have a consistent internet connection

-No more annoying popups if you're not connected to the internet - you just won't see weather information

I'm still working on your requested features, Julien. :) The timer alarm should be added soon.

Also, I should mention that both Nightstand Central for iPhone (50% off) and Nightstand Central for iPad (33% off) are on sale for the rest of 2010.

Excellent!
I think that might have been causing my infrequent problem
A couple of times my iPhone has frozen, the alarm still goes off, but I can't do anything and the time is frozen earlier in the night as well

Thanks
Love the product
