oki thx but what about if u put "kilometers" in ur distance settings????? is the voice still speaking about miles or kilometers??

I would assume - but I've not tested - that the opposite applies. So with the preferences under Nike+iPod>Settings>Distances set to kilometers, the voice feedback should give distance and pace in km if you're running a basic workout, time workout, calorie workout, or any distance workout except for one based on miles (e.g. the 2 mile workout).

So with preferences set to miles, all feedback will be in miles except when running a km-based distance workout, and with prefs set to kilometers, all feedback will be in km except when running a miles-based distance workout.

I think :)

Tongue Trick

So I too experimented with nike shoes for one day and opted to return them for a pair of Asics... I took a different approach on placing my sensor in the shoe that is a combination of what i've seen on here thus far...It is kind of an upgrade so to say of what Flowbee did, not upgrade in a bad way Flowbee but more of an interpretation i guess.... Here's what i did:
1. Checking the tongue of my asics i saw that there were two sheets, as in i could pinch the outer side and the bottom side of the tongue and pull them apart, not a sewn together tongue inside.
2. Next after removing the laces i lifted the tongue out and made a small incision just wide enough to stretch and place the sensor in the tongue right below stitching for the cross lace holder on the tongue (its that little hook that your laces go under midway up on the tongue), on the underside or foot side of the tongue that is.
3. next i slid the sensor in the proper way so it is facing parallel with the shoe and reset button side in (towards foot).
4. the final step will be to sew the incision shut.

I ran with this yesterday and could not tell what so ever that the sensor was in my tongue. Basically to invision it, it would be set up in the same place as Flowbee's sensor but inside the tongue and placed inside from the inside of the tongue. This way there is no risk of it sliding out whatsoever. If anyone is actually interested i could post the pictures later. Hope you enjoy this.

If you could post a photo that would be good, I tried to place it in my laces and it works ok, but did slide out on a run yesterday so I need something a little more secure. I also was about to cut open the bottom of my shoes but got scared I would ruin them :)

Attached are two pictures that should help with the process. Let me know if you have any other questions

I was upset with my first run with the nike+ipod system. Don't get me wrong, the ipod, receiver, and sensor worked beautifully; I am completely happy with that. The frustration began when my Apple in-ear headphones slid out of my ear from the bouncing and sweating. I tried to dry them off and put them back in, but they would just slide out again...completely ruined the run. I guess I am wondering how apple advertises the nike+ with the regular and in-ear headphones when it is impossible for me to have a pleasant run with them.

Now that I am done whining, I ask for advice. I want a great pair of work-out headphones. I am big on protecting my hearing, so I want something, like the in-ear headphones, that blocks outside noise so music doesn't have to be loud.
Thanks.

Headphones

First off were you using the generic headphones that came with your ipod? i use those and i run a lot... my trick to keeping them from slipping out is that i run the wire down the back of my head and under my shirt on the back side... this way any pulls of the wire are actually pulling the headphones more snugly into your ear... i bought an aftermarket pair of inear headphones by apple and tried running once with them and they slipped out all the time like you said...

I use the in-ear headphones. I have used the standard ones and they fall out too. The problem with wiring the standard headphones with your mentioned method is that the standard headphones do not block out extraneous noise. I want to block out outside noise in order to keep audio volume at a minimum.

You need to attach velcro to the transmitter and the shoe, otherwise it's obviously going to slide out from under your laces when you run.

It's generally not a good idea to block outside noise if you're running outdoors... you still need to hear what's going on around you. That being said, any in-ear earphones that block out external noise will be the kind that you set in your ear canal. It's really easy to hear the noise of the cord moving against your shirt with this type of earphone. Distracting while running.

I use the Sennheiser PX-100 for running. They're the standard, over-the-head type headphones with round foam pads that rest against your ear. The sound quality is great, they don't move or bounce around, they're comfortable, light-weight, and they fold up for storage. Less than $40 from Amazon.

[EDIT: I've posted an article about my experience with running & headphones here.

Hi Flowbee! ;) Could u plz answer my above question as i know u got one kit to test it :) Thx!

You might want to be a little more specific about your question, as I couldn't tell exactly what you wanted to know. If you just wanted to confirm that the iPod can give both voice and screen feedback in km (or min/km for the pace), then absolutely, it can, I can verify this from my run last night.

Speaking of which, my latest small annoyance - after calibrating my sensor on Monday (and it turns out I was running about 7% too far on my first too runs due to the unit undermeasuring my stride), I ran a flat-out 5K last night, beat my previous Nike+ time by close to three minutes (about 2 mins of which was due to the fixed calibration, the other minute from the effort), coming close to my all-time personal best, and although the data uploaded to the Nike+ website, the site refuses to accept it as my new best time, even though the iPod does.

So I think the Nike+ site needs a Google-esque "BETA" slapped on it for a few more weeks yet...

Calibration/ Lance Armstrong

I logged my third run...first long one in the shoes. 4 miles, and then a mile of walking running at the end...(5 was my goal, but the NJ heat got to me!) SO anyway, then the workout was ended via the ipod, lance armstrong then came on and said something to the effect...

"Congratulations! That was your longest run to date!"

It really pumped me up! I was jumping around like rocky and the people at the river probably thought I was a Kook!

AND, I ran what I know to be a 3.7 mile track....the Ipod came out at 3.8...I am wondering if I should calibrate, or if the problem is that when I run, I kinda run all over the place on the trail, inside, outside, streetside, etc. I am thinking maybe I picked up a little extra that way? And that it's close enough, and I won't cailibrate and possible make it worse?

I had Paula Radcliffe tell me the same thing last night. My iPod must know I'm British :)

I don't think you'd make it worse. After calibration, my iPod measured my regular course as 3.16 miles, compared to 3.17 miles for my prior measurement - as close to spot-on as I can possibly expect. Just be sure to calibrate both running and walking (I think it makes a difference even if you just run on your regular workouts - the walking calibration may help during the times when your pace starts to flag), and use either a properly measured track, or if you're using a car odometer or something like the Gmaps pedometer, choose a fairly straight stretch of road, and you should be similarly happy with the results.

Nike+ Shorts - Nano hardly fits in?

Just got my Nike+ plus shorts from JJB sports and finding it very hard to get my nano into them!

Darn!!! For the past day and a half when I try to sync my results to nikeplus.com, itunes gives me this message. Is anyone else getting this? Who do I contact to correct it?

Hey PDHancock, i've also got the nike+ shorts and it is a very tight fit to get the nano in, don't see why they couldn't have just used a velcro pocket

I was also thinking we could start some MacRumors running challenges if anyones interested?? Such as fastest 5k or first to run 20 miles.

I have the same problem with the standard headphones in general. I can manage to walk to work with them, but that's about it. I have a pair of $10 Maxell headphones that I run in. They kinda fit in ear, but then they have a plastic band that wraps around the back of my head. They're crappy, but for running they're perfect.

I'd personally prefer not to have sound isolating headphones for running. Here in NYC, I want to be able to hear what's happening around me (while running) just for safety sake. Something to keep in mind.

I used the Gmap Pedometer (such a cool site!!) to measure my run, and it came out with almost exactly what my ipod does for the route (the difference is so small that it's attributable to slight differences in where I click on the map or which side of the sidewalk I use). I was pretty impressed by the accuracy of my ipod straight out of the box.

yeah, i set a goal for miles in a month, and it says i'm way ahead of my goal, but i'm really not that much ahead, if any. i don't know what the deal is

Is it possible to cancel a goal on the nike site? If its going to be that far off on the data (although, today's run synched correctly I believe) I'd rather just not use it.

that's a good question. now i'm somehow way behind my goal, when i should be right on it. may i should just cancell it.

Ah, so the Americans get Lance and we get Paula? Can Brits get Lance as an option?

So it's sensitive enough for walkers?

I put in my custom insoles and have noticed that the sensor in the shoe rattles around a bit when I run. Would it screw with the data if I tape the sensor into it's hole???
Thanks

On the nike+ipod menu...can the totals in history be cleared any way??

Also, when the transmitter is not attached....is the nike+ipod menu selection still supposed to be appearing?

Thanks

No, it won't affect the data.

I wouldn't mind being challenged to see how that works. The people that I know personally that have nano's don't run, and the people I know that run, do not wear nike's so, I am out of luck finding people I know to challenge.

My Nike name is ROMEO1970 and my email is romeoswebs@aol.com

I am pretty sure that is all you need for a challenge. I like 5k's...and I usally run at a 8:30 minute mile pace. Someone Challenge me...I am curious to see if the ipod does anything differnt if you are running a "challenge" against someone?

I bought a new pair of shoes, didn't like the Nike+'s ended up with a pair of saucony's. I didn't want to screw with the sensor again, so I just bought a shoe wallet.. $10 US. it velcrows around the laces and has room for the sensor and cash, keys, etc. I can't tell I am wearing it, and the sensor is waterproofed now.

Calibrating - do both the walking and running calibration. I used a treadmill to do mine. You know your exact distance.

It is great for measuring walking distances too. I walk a 3 mile loop at lunch and it registered correclty. 16 to 18 min mile pace, and it is properly tracking my running times as well. there is no difference on how it is reporting on the nike+ website, but it will put each time as its own workout. though it sorts them by when the ipod was synced. so if you did 3 between syncing's, I think all three would have the same date on them.

I have a 100 mile challenge for the month of August, taking invites
