Being able to use Airpods Max Spatial Audio with it would be an obvious one, it's been a glaring omission with the current Apple TV units (which others have noted already) that's so glaring one presumes it's because they lack some necessary hardware to do it. (I think that's not the U1?)
Spatial audio requires location awareness.

Maybe it’s just me but I just can’t see the need of a mute button on a streaming device.
If I need to mute then chances are I’m also not watching, even if I’m watching then unless you’re using subtitles then you’re missing any dialogue so for me personally I’d just press pause and play again when I’m ready to continue.
Also why the need for a dedicated sleep button when all you need to do is press and hold the home button and then select sleep.
Pause doesn't work on autoplay preview and many non-streaming apps. And I like to mute when commercial plays (e.g., Hulu, YouTube).

As for sleep, you just explained why. It requires several actions to do a simple thing.

Needs FaceTime support, + a purchase option for a bundle including a camera (perhaps resurrecting the iSight brand in the same way MagSafe has recently been? Or just FaceTime camera).
Never happen. The last thing I want is Fing camera in my bedroom looking at me.

Apple doesn't explain it thoroughly, but I think spatial audio requires accelerometer, not U1. After all, spatial audio works on Apple devices without U1, such as iPhone 7.

While the Siri Remote has an accelerometer, it would be silly to augment dynamic head tracking with it. Apple should make dynamic head tracking optional, so that we can use any Apple devices capable of running spatial audio supported OS.

Ok I’ll give you that one.

Several is a slight exaggeration isn’t it, I mean those extra couple of seconds making two button presses is just the worst when that time could be spent elsewhere.
First world problems right there!

I do hope they change the remote for the Apple TV. It is worse than useless.
I've never had any issues with it... what exactly makes it useless?

Coming from a Industrial Design perspective?

How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.
  1. Difficult to pick up off a hard surface. (slight rubberized feet at the front end would solve this)
  2. No clear way to orient it in the users hand. (slight rubberized feet at the front end would solve this)
  3. Slippery surface and a lack of non active grip areas lead to light hold and thus dropping device. (some grippy texture on the sides would fix this)
  4. No lights to see buttons in the dark (which wouldn't be that necessary w/ how few buttons it has, except for #2)
  5. Easy to loose, which is inexcusable when any user has at least 1 (the TV box) and likely 4 or 5 (Find My) devices that should be able to ping it.
  6. Lacks seamless method of charging. (by never fully using and now removing the USB-C port on the back of the TV Box, they gave up a clear way to charge the Remote right near it is normally used.

I could go on, but is just mean to kick a remote when it's down,
and lost in my couch cushion,
helpless,

useless,
hated so...

I’d be happy if they’d just add support to AirPlay video and audio from FaceTime on iOS to the Apple TV, but continue to use the camera and microphone on the iOS device - it’d be easy enough to have the iPhone/iPad on a stand pointed at you while effectively interacting with (looking at / talking to) the TV. Even if they kept all audio on the iPhone/iPad (to avoid feedback issues) and just sent the video to the Apple TV - that’s it, a video-only AirPlay option.

I often broadcast my kid's sporting event to remote family members using FaceTime. Screen mirroring sort of works, but using Control Center to initiate it is not elegant.

I would love a native FaceTime app for Apple TV, with support for iPhone or iPad as camera and microphone. If you ask me, FaceTime for Mac should offer the same capability.

Not every streaming app supports pause/play for every channel (Sling for example). I would love a mute button. This looks interesting:
but since it’s IR and needs line of site I would have to move my ATV which is hanging on the back of my TV.

Not necessarily as IR should bounce off the walls and ceiling.
I used to have my ATV3 mounted behind my TV and the remote still worked.

That's not one step. That requires pushing the Siri button.

I don't get people's aversion to buttons, especially something many people are asking for. I am not asking for numeric keys. If you look at Apple's Use your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote with your Apple TV support article, many key actions require hidden gesture. Why?
I wouldn’t say there’s an aversion to buttons, it’s more of a case of why have an extra button for a function that already exists.
By all means if a function doesn’t exist then yeah have a button for it.

Since Siri can technically pause video, rewind, change the volume, etc. then why not just have one button on the remote?

For executing tedious features like search, using Siri is great. But features like playback control (e.g., rewind, forward, pause), audio (volume, mute), navigation, and system (power, input selection) are tasks many people like to execute more discretely with quick and convenient access. For some Siri Remote supporters like yourself, the Siri Remote may be fine. But to myself and others, it's one of the most blatant example of form over function.

I got a 3rd gen and a HD one, I don’t really know why but I like them a lot. They are convenient, responsive and always “there” ready but also so conspicuous not screaming it’s presence.

With the advent of the M1 macs, if newer Apple TVs were to have similar performance next year, then I think we are definitely talking quite the gaming console capabilities too.
Same here, I’m glad that I usually buy all the apple products on day one

can’t believe it’s been 3.5 years... my brother hesitated buying the 4K to upgrade the old one for the office when it was released , saying he might not need the 4K feature or stuff like that ... he is happy that he have. listened to me

Apple TV 4K has become essential part of my home central hub , be it apple ar add gaming / binging tv shows on Apple TV channel / non stop music / mv streaming / watching live news or stuff on peacock

You never know when they are gonna update the “lesser “ line of products

like HomePod / Apple TV / XDR display pro / AirPod max
