It's his twitter feed. He chose what goes on there. Unless it's hacked, it's not an active campaign.
EVERYTHING you do, say, think, eat, drink, type, write, or **** is an active campaign when its done publicly. You're credibility & your image is always being watched & judged. It never goes away, making it a permanent stamp of who a=you are & why I should listen to you. That's Internet 101. He didn't represent himself well at ALL for responding this way to a guy who didn't like his review. Very unprofessional.
Of course not. But he made a big deal about notifications being an issue and even staged a scene showing it.
He could've easily pointed out the customization or Do Not Disturb option you could use in this situation but chose not to do it. In other words, he chased to not be a tech expert to support his negative opinion.
That's sort of my point, his review was clearly biased. WSJ review was negative too but I could respect it.
He deserved it. I've never seen or heard him before, but he came across to me as a complete jerk who is quite full of himself. My cat's opinion of the watch has more credibility than his.
Nilay has been bashing the AppleWatch ever since he saw the unveiling, thinks the interface is too confusing or that notifications are poping up all the time ...
This is coming from a guy who cant make up he's mind on wich cell phone to keep and he just keeps on talking on almost every VergeCast each week how he is gona change cell phone for the newest and best each time an Android or iPhone comes out ... he must change like 8 times a year ... And everytime he changes phone its for the stupid reasons ....
Seriously ... knowing that ... can you even trust a guy like that for what you plan on buying ?
But who I am to keep him from this pleasure of his !
Where do I start .. oh my lord ...
Listening to him ... you would think that a smartwatch is not supposed to be a companion accessorie ... but is supposed to replace a cell phone in all fonctionality !!! Is he actually a tech reviewer ?
Here is a news flash for you Nilay .... 3rd party phone apps are running from the phone right now .... they are not native running on the watch .... only Apple Apps are running native right now ... and from my Hands time going to the Apple Store and actually trying the watch and the OS ... Native Apps are smooth as butter ... but did he even mention this ???
Fittness tracking he does not even have a clue what he is talking about .. he is clearly not in he's element, did he even review other fitness trackers before ? (does he even train ? looking at the review video ... my money would be that he does not .. wich would explain why so little was said or tested from the fitness section of the watch )
Fashion ... well this one is hard ... because fashion is a not the same for everyone (yes I am looking at you spike leather band) ... hence all the watch options of bands ... sizes .. materials ...
When he comments on tech stuff on VergeCast he has this way of being cocky and my way or highway guy ... cant stand him at all ....
At least back in the early days of the Verge ... We had Joshua who kept Nilay in chains and down played him when Nilay got out of control being cocky .... how I miss Joshua
I wasn't a fan when they announced he would be succeeding Josh Topolsky as the editor of the verge. Topolsky wasn't the best but he is far more charismatic than Patel. I find David Pierce's reviews much more intriguing and I wish Patel would let him take on the role of reviewing the major product releases while he sticks to his editor-in-chief duties.
EDIT: never mind, just realized Pierce has left the verge. No wonder I find myself visiting that site less and less.
To me, Nilay gives of a "too cool for school vibe" where he acts as if he is above being excited about anything and that nothing can live up to his expectations. He also thinks he's funnier than he really is as evidenced by his "Force Touch" non joke during the interview. Can you really take anything someone who wears a dog collar on his wrist while wearing a suit says
seriously?
Yeah I think he is working for Wired now ...
Its been down hill for the Verge ever since Nilay took over from Josh
Yeah, every headline of theirs these days seems to have a "-est" in the title. "Meet the nicest man on the internet", "this is the hardest working man in tech", etc.
Such absolute titles probably leads to more clicks for them but it just reeks of bad journalism to me.
