Good news! Nintendo has two platforms currently on the marketplace that are full of Mario and Pokemon titles.
See I have thought about picking up a 3DS for Pokemon and Mario - but after 3 weeks when I beat the games, I have a unit I will never use again.

If you only find enough games to get three weeks of playtime out of a 3DS you may have the most narrow tastes in video games ever.
Thats exactly my point. I don't game much. I like Pokemon and Mario Bros. If I am going to spend money on a gaming system it would be an Xbox over a 3DS, because I can get a lot more use out of an Xbox.

I just don't have time to game.

But you see, that's kind of the whole point of the 3DS and the big reason to look to that over an Xbox...since its portable you can take it where you go and squeeze in gameplay whenever possible.

I dunno why I'm trying to sell this thing to you, you're obviously not interested, lol.

This is just sad...

RIP Iwata and the good ole days of Nintendo.
1. That was this year.
2. Iwata didn't want to do mobile games.
3. Iwata himself said announced the mobile game plans, and this was definitely what he had in mind.

You know they make more than one Mario and more than one Pokemon per handheld right?

Maybe i'm old school, this seems a tad lame to me. With so many good franchises that they have, it seems like a waste of resources, maybe its just not for a western audiences?

I guess you guys have never played an emulator like Provenance or NES.emu on your iPhone/iPad. Classic video games can be played quite well on touchscreens with the right layout.

In my honeymoon years with the App Store, I eagerly bought Sonic the Hedgehog when SEGA first ported it to iOS, and it was miserable.

If a game that relies on a D-Pad and ONE button can't control well, I can't imagine a Mario game which sometimes requires three working well at all.

Most excellent, just as I expected.

You guys really thought Nintendo will port Mario, Zelda and Pokemon as an iPhone app, their most valuable IPs? Once they devalue their IPs to that level it'll truly be game over.

Playing a Mario game on a touchscreen device is my worst nightmare :p

Lol. Its not that I'm not interested. Like I said I have thought about picking one up, for some time now too. Its just I don't think I will be able to get the full use out of the device. Between law school and work, there isn't much free time to game enough on the unit to justify the cost. On my phone, which I take everywhere is a little different. Thanks for your input though! I do appreciate it!

Yes I am aware - But I would still prefer it on my phone. One device.

Put Mario Kart on iOS and TVos please and thank you. Add controller support. Hell, if Nintendo were to make their own bluetooth controller I'd buy it just to play Mario Kart, etc.

Oh! and Pokemon too please :)

Today at a press conference Nintendo announced the much anticipated news of its entry into the mobile gaming market. "We're starting with something everyone knows. Everyone loves. Super Mario Bros. for iOS and Android." said Iwata shortly after taking the stage.

Oh wait...

How can it not be Super Mario Bros.?!

DUH -- because Mario may be the most valuable video game franchise of all. That's why. He's Nintendo's big gun. I'd be willing to bet money that they won't bring him outside of Nintendo hardware unless they're totally desperate.

They know how much Mario is worth. If you want to play Mario, they're going to make you buy Nintendo hardware in order to do so.

Nintendo has been doing the same thing over and over. Why are they changing now. This game sounds terrible. I think we all want a full screen emulator. Not this garbage. Mii characters are the worst part of the wii.

Yeah! Instead of brand new games we just want to play games from 25 years ago!

Huh? Not sure what I just read, but why am I not paying $2.99 right now for Super Mario Bros, Contra, Double Dragon, and Castlevania?

Superimpose a transparent NES controller on screen (just a directional pad, and A and B buttons) and watch the world throw money at you Nintendo! What is the problem?

Well, primarily because Nintendo only owns one of those franchises.
