Sadly, once again, Nintendo is missing out on sales while these things are hot and everyone is talking about it. At least this pretty much guarantees we'll see a Super Nintendo Classic, which in hindsight is my favorite console from my childhood. I just hope it comes with a cord longer than 30" for crying out loud. If they need to save on cost, I'll gladly supply my own HDMI cable to get either wireless controllers or a longer cable.

Agreed, I heard the cord is really short, you can buy an adapter tho lol.

im SOOOOOOO jealous! I can't wait to get mine.

I got lucky, went to the local Walmart early before work Friday morning and there was already a line of about 40 people. The store opened and I walked in with everyone else and the manager said they only had 6 units and pretty much everyone left.

Turns out they had 18 and I got one of the last ones.

I know they've said otherwise, but making it an in app purchase instead of just a $10 game/app I bet is partially so families to have to pay for the game multiple times. Bit of a kick in the junk.

Yup. Easy way for them to build up some capital, lol.
It's not like each player doesn't have to pay for each in-app purchase. Besides, my wife and I have never paid twice for the same app and all families can do the same so long as you have your app store account connected to a single credit card.

$10 is steep but it looks like Nintendo is using this title's exclusivity to really test the 3rd party platform waters here. If sales are weak, don't expect to see more titles like this again. If sales are strong (they will be), we will start to see all Nintendo IP on iOS and eventually Android.

The same people that complain about IAPs and Freemium games, and the people that complained that Nintendo should stop making their hardware and make games for mobile instead, are the people complaining now for the $9.99 price tag.

From what I have understood it is a simplified version of Super Mario Bros.

The mission being "giving people a taste of Mario" so that they feel like investing in the full Mario experience on a real dedicated Nintendo console.

If that is understood correctly. $9.99 is way too much to pay for a 'teaser'.

I've replied several times since my initial comment, but as per Apple, in app purchase are not included in family sharing (I do make heavy use of family sharing).

Also, I think $10 is more than fair if it's a lengthy Mario game. Can't expect all this software and development to happen if we aren't willing to pay for it.

The problem with this.. if you use family share for your apps you cannot pay 10.00 once to get it. Since it's IAP you have to pay 10.00 for each person to use it. That's the main issue I see with the pricing on this one. A free app with a 10.00 full game unlock, but actually 10.00 a person for family share.. not really a good deal then. I don't use family share but I can see that being a major issue.

I don't make many in app purchases so I didn't know that but how does that affect this game?

Mario run,... so we might expect a temple run or other rip-off.. for 9,99 that definitely should boost up their sales figures.. poor Nintendo...

Well, if the game truly is free with an in app purchase, then even with family sharing each person within the family who wants to make the in app purchase will have to do it individually. No sharing in app purchases. Whereas if it was just a purchaseable game/app, one person could purchase it and the rest of the family could access their purchase.

Day one purchase for me. I grew up with Nintendo games so its an easy decision. Gotta support them if you want to ever see Zelda on iOS, which would be my holy grail.

This just blows my mind! Square Enix charges $17 to $19.99 for Final Fantasy VII on iOS and nobody complains but Nintendo charges $9.99 for a game and people blow up.

Because FF7 is a FULL GAME. Super Mario Run is a mobile endless runner title. If Nintendo charged $10 for New Super Mario Bros on iOS, there would be nothing wrong with that.

A virtual console app with in app purchases for their library of old school games would KILL on iOS. And come out wth official Bluetooth controllers to boot.

Nintendo today confirmed that its iOS endless runner game, Super Mario Run, will launch on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on December 15 for $9.99, a price that will allow users "full access" to the game's three modes. Players will also be able to download the game for free, gaining limited access to elements from each mode so that they can try out the game before deciding whether or not they want to buy it.

The game will be compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS 8 or later, and launch in 151 countries on December 15. Additionally, Super Mario Run will support the following languages: English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian and traditional Chinese.

The game was first announced at Apple's September 7 iPhone event, and will have Mario running to the right with users tapping to make him jump and avoid enemies in order to complete each level.

Journalism at its worst. No. Super Mario run is a FREE title with an OPTIONAL $9.99 IAP.

Hmm, I thought it was going to be half that price...
$4.99 without any IAP and it would make a killing for Nintendo.

Who am I kidding though, we all know it's going to sell like hotcakes anyway.

I will probably buy it to support one-off payment games, and to encourage Nintendo to release more on iOS. Unless the game is terrible or something, which I doubt it will be (and they're letting us try it first, so where's the harm?).

I grew up on an era of 'budget' games costing £7.99-£9.99 on the Amiga etc, I think a lot of people are spoiled now with how cheap a lot of iOS games are. Obviously we all like cheap and free things, but I don't see $9.99 (I guess it'll be a similar amount in £GBP too!) as all that unreasonable, even though it's not at the cheapest end by iOS standards.

So no Family Sharing for the game, since In App Purchases are not shared via Family Sharing...

Each member of the family has to pay 9.99 to get the full game.

Bad Nintendo!

Exactly - it beggars belief when people complain about apps that developers have worked hard on costing even $5-10.

Without sounding too old, a lot of people these days don't seem to know they're born.

Gotcha. When they announced it they said there were no in-app purchases so this detail confused me. In any case, it's a good way to do a free trial I suppose. And it's not a multiplayer game so it doesn't require everyone i know to purchase it, just those that want to play the full game. Looking forward to it. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to checking this out. I have no problems paying $10 for games. Speaking as a developer I am saddened by the race to the bottom with regards to App Store pricing. People now expect developers to make a living giving away free games with in-app purchases.
