Nintendo finally realizes that they have to do this in order to stay alive in the competitive market... They can't create anything brand new, so they just stick with what was popular 30 years ago. They are forever going to be stuck in the 80's It's going to haunt them.

Yay Mario! Not familiar with the legend of Zelda but i i'll give it a try

Just wondering, does anyone know why wikipedia claims Zelda game (1986 version) was a history game changer?..is it the story?

Because to me it looks like Bomber-man with a less interesting gameplay and background story
Remember not a hater just curious
Zelda is nothing like Bomberman. Zelda was basically the first "modern" action-adventure. I don't think it aged all that well, but it was very well crafted, brought a lot of good new concepts to the table and inspired countless other games since. Probably one of the most influential games ever created.

It was the level design.

It was the bosses.

It was the journey.

It was the game mechanics.

It was everything.

Even today, Zelda seems to do things better than the other guys. There's just something about the game's creator Shigeru Miyamoto (The Steve Jobs of video games). Miyamoto gets it the same way Jobs gets it and his games are always brilliant.

They missed their window of opportunity. Many games are far superior now.

I'm sorry. What rock have you been living under? Not a single iOS game can match what Nintendo has done with Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Super Mario 3D World, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Animal Crossing, Pokemon series. The list goes on and on.

I don't know how they do it, but Nintendo games are full, high quality, emersive, quirky, charming elements that break the mold and switch things up continuously, nothing of which has come close on iOS. I'd say my favorite game on iOS has been Plants vs Zombies but look how that has been decimated by EA. World of Goo was pretty good but lost my attention after a few levels. Limbo was good as well. I'd say those 3 are my top picks for iOS but I still feel what Nintendo does with Mario, Metroid, and Zelda far outshines any of those.

Maybe just my opinion. End rant.

Nintendo has been in a bit of financial dires over the last couple years.
Let's not spread FUD.

The last 6 months have changed everything for Nintendo. Now it looks like they're finally bringing games over that they said they would earlier. They're not going to throw old games on these systems, they know better than anyone you can't get controller-complex games on mobile.

If Nintendo screws this up they are basically going to be commiting corporate suicide. If they want to join the modern era then don't do a half ass job. Give people the titles they want and bring some new ones to the table. Otherwise they are going to lose a whole generation and probably their company as well. They need to understand that either they are going to please a whole bunch of people or piss everybody off and lose out big time. It's a high stakes move and I hope they are not stupid enough to think they can move forward with old mindsets. Either do it right or don't do it at all. People are sick and tired of dealing with their BS and before long Nintendo can have it their way and end up losing their company.

I'm glad Nintendo realized that there's tons of money to be made in Smartphones. I love Nintendo but they just can't beat the Playstation and Xbox in the gaming wars. Can't wait to play the old Mario games on my iPhone and iPad. :)

Even though they are stating new content for mobile devices, releasing the back catalogue would net them millions.

If they only sold the Mario games for $0.99 each - people (including myself) will buy.

I'm sure they have thought of that.
Sure, make a quick few millions and then it's all over for them after they burn thru porting over their catalog. Why? Because once they devalue their IPs to that level people will stop buying their consoles, and they'll no longer invest in developing new titles much less new hardware.

Forget making anything off Android should they decide to support that platform too lol.

Now, how much time until they realize that amiibo is a goldmine, too? They can't keep up with the demand and they don't even bother on making more.

Dumb.

They apparently are either ostrich-like or hired lots of Blackberry people.

Ahh the old "If they just ported Zelda they would sell like a bajillion copies and be rich" attitude.

Right, like that's worked for so many others in the crowded sea of crap games currently on the App store.

Nintendo is like Apple. They are so stubborn to get with the times.

I wouldn't mind paying a subscription fee to get unlimited access to all of their NES/SNES/Gameboy/DS titles

Despite everything you said they're successful. Amiibo, 3DS, Pokemon have all been roaring successes of the past few years. Before that they created 2 of the top 3 best selling consoles of all time (Wii and DS), the 3DS is on track too.

Their only flop is the Wii U. But to call it a flop is disingenuous. It's profitable but isn't a wild success like the DS, 3DS or Wii were. Nintendo are in profit, unlike Sony, so I wonder why people think they're going away when all they've expressed an interest in is broadening their market.

Because sadly most people are just ignorant and like to ignore that Nintendo can stay afloat for another decade or two with continued losses each year because they always make a profit on each hardware sold typically from the getgo - unlike Sony and MS which lose for several years.

Anyone expecting ports will be disappointed. At best it will be normal games with Mario/Zelda tosses in instead of generic hero.

But hey, it'll help get people to buy a 3DS/Wii U that's cool.

Thanks for the help!
I also did background check, so is kinda more like more successful Mk mythology - GTA Sa 2d type game and made by Nintendo
I was planning to just wait for the 3d version but now I will start from the beginning including watching Zelda TV-series, again thanks!

Macrumors: Dictation does not work, please fix that!

That is a very promising turn of events when compared to the Qtrly reports of late:

looks like EOY they finally turned a profit in 2014! good, hopefully this will mean better releases. cause 2013 was disastrous.

Actually, I'm pretty good at reading financials, Was trained to. But I find Nintendo's a bit... confusing? maybe it's the japanese way but depending on the math, they either lost about 600m yen for the last year ending, or gained 14,300m yen.

see how it changes when you look at full year?

Riiigghhttt, despite the 3DS selling extremely well and the Wii U picking up steam (still selling badly by comparison to the PS4 and XBONE, but no longer a complete failure).

They aren't bringing their main games to phones and doubtful they ever will, gaming sucks on smartphones with no buttons and they know it. The outcome of this is likely to be free/small mini games that tie into their main franchises.

I don't think most people are expecting that they would bring out their new franchises, I think most are hoping that they will bring their classic games they are no longer selling. Which, they probably still won't do as Nintendo is gonna be stubborn Nintendo as per usual.

Too bad the article states that Nintendo said these games will not be ports of the original. The article says they will probably be dumbed down limited versions.

Nintendo sells plenty of classic games on the Wii U, Wii and 3DS Virtual Console.

So Nintendo is not being stubborn.
