Touché, but I think there is still hope for them if they can port some games over to iOS. Heck I had NES emulators running on my first gen iPhone so we know it's possible.Let me correct that: Nintendo was foolish not to create game titles for the iPhone, and the iPad.
I doubt it. The controller shells aren't proving to be hot sellers since many people are not looking at the iPhone and iPad as gaming machines. Any tablet or smartphone is viewed that way now. Productivity and social are the two biggest categories on a phone or tablet. If they play anything, it's Tetris, Angry Bird or Fruit Ninja, simple games that can utilize the touch screen properly. Plus, viewing movies, TV shows and listening to music are rated higher than video games on these devices. Hence why, they don't see this as an acceptable model to make games on. Eventually, they may do old NES and GB games, but beyond that, I very much doubt their games will grace our devices.
People still play with Nintendo?![]()
I'd like to see a virtual console on mobile with nes, snes and n64 games for $5, $8 and $10.
I think it'd make a killing.
Iwata's comments have been misrepresented and were totally blown out of proportion by the most of the mainstream media.
If you've been following his history regarding "smart devices", Iwata has in the past stated that Nintendo was looking into smartphones and tablets as an addition to their first party hardware experiences to entice new users to Nintendo consoles and handhelds.
What Iwata has suggested would be mini games made for touch devices using Nintendo characters but that major games would still be exclusive to Nintendo consoles. For example, we might see a Mario Angry Birds style game to introduce a new generation to Super Mario who would then feel compelled to buy a Nintendo console to play the main games. I believe he also made mention of a Zelda puzzle game and a Pokémon "pet" app.
Hell, I own a 3DS and I'm still more likely to play Nintendo games on an iOS device than an actual Nintendo system. Carrying around a handheld solely for gaming is becoming a thing of the past.
Nintendo is NOT moving to smartphones. They earn their money through hardware sales and their first party games. How much profit do you think they will make from $3 dollar games on the App Store. There was a suggestion that Nintendo would have to sell over 750 million games on the App Store to earn the same profit as they currently do.
that said, it would be the end of nintendo as a console maker, and would probably stick them in the app store forever, as long as they fall behind MS and sony.
Not more than two months ago, Nintendo was the best selling game console and handheld manufacture in the world.![]()
Ocarina of Time on iPad mini? HELL YES.
Whenever this happens, I hope Nontendo eases up on the app pricing. My 7-yr old son was begging for a 3DS for Christmas, so Santa obliged. Now it sits collecting dust because he can't afford the "good" games and dear old dad isn't forking over >$15 for even a used game.
Unfortunately for them, they're too late for a big piece of the pie. Not sure who their target market would be....
WE bought Game Boy Advances, ONLY because we were moving cross-country and faced with multiple trips in the car. The kids still really only have those initial games - and it's been 10 years!
Meanwhile, my middle daughter has asked for a DS every year for years... the thought of buying games on a cartridge and then tracking them, um, no thanks.
Oh, they have recently gotten into Pokemon... so I think they bought something used for the GBAs on that. *I* didn't buy it!
Meanwhile, they have iPod Touches, cheaper games and not extra pieces to keep track of. Win win.

The fact that you didn't mention Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 negates the entirety of your opinion. Those two games were so good nothing on any other console can compare. There is a reason almost every reviewer gave Super Mario Galaxy a 100%. It is a freaking masterpiece.
Drop the hardware and focus on software. The hardware is ages behind, nobody wants it anymore. Both the 3DS and WIIU have failed.

That's what jailbroken iPhones are for![]()
We got 5 used game cartridges for $20 from some friends, but our son found some new titles on the "e-store" that I agreed to purchase. The most expensive was $6 and he doesn't even play it anymore. He plays on his iPod Touch 5 more than anything else, mostly because he can do so much more with it. Now he sees some of his friends with an iPad mini and wants one too. THAT is where Nintendo is failing in the mobile console market.
