It’s surprising Super Mario Run didn’t earn more of a profit for them. It’s a fun little game. The newly added remix levels are my go to diversion when I need a quick break at work and I’m tapped out on news to read.

Man you people are cheap......willing to get a $1000 iPhone but not a $10 app. The irony is strong strong strong.

I’m sure it made plenty of profit. Let’s just make a conservative estimate that around 10 percent of the 200 million claimed downloads paid full price.

That’s 200 million in sales.....not candy crush level profits but still nothing to scoff at. Nintendo clearly isn’t immune to the immense amount of corporate greed today.
 
It's a crappy, overpriced, overhyped (by the media) game. We wanted an ACTUAL Super Mario game, not this.

Remove the daft requirement of needing internet to be always on and see sales go up . For many it was DOA due to this greedy move

Exactly. Nobody asked for this crap. We asked for actual Nintendo games. Maybe they should actually listen to their customers. And offline play is a major key.



Or people want an actual game.

Tell Apple to make game controllers. Touch input is crap for real games.

One of the reasons would be that its auto running, which ruins the whole marko experience we are used to for 20 years.. if they would just have launched a normal game, along with the run version, i can guess that 9.99 price wouldn't have stopped people to buy it... it's mario after all.. every Nintendo user loves it, it's the childhood game of millions!

It’s refreshing to hear someone say this. It’s exactly how I feel. All I ever wanted was the original Mario game on my phone and iPad. That’s it. But nooooooo Nintendo wanted to be fancy and create something new. Sucks for them but if they would just listen to customers.....

I’d pay 20 bucks to have the original Mario on my iPhone. Maybe I’m crazy but that’s what I want.

Gameplay feels odd - not being able to move Mario in both directions. Having to be connected to play only benefits (or apparently not) Nintendo.

People would then move the goal posts and complain that it should be 99 cents (or free).
My issue was that it is online online like another game I like Zombie: Gunship Survival. It's not multiplayer so why make it online??
 
Nintendo was clearly hedging their bets with this.

If the Switch flopped hard they needed to at least be familiarized with iOS, so they made this junk.

Now that the Switch is a booming success, I think we'll have to roll back expectations for any halfway decent iOS Nintendo games :(
I dunno, we still have Animal Crossing which looks pretty decent. If that does well I think we'll continue to see mobilized nintendo titles, but of course nothing like the full games on the switch itself.

If they wanna make some money, release out the Animal Crossing app outside of Australia. Im dying to buy some leaf bucks in game!!
 
I don’t get why people keep giving Nintendo money. They are one of the most consumer unfriendly companies out there based on their archaic ideaology. I mean they won’t even let people play their games on YouTube for free advertisement without trying to take their money.

Actual Super Mario games are available on consoles where actual video game input devices (controllers) are available.

For a phone game, they were able to craft some pretty great level design around a single-touch mechanic that allows input to be accurate on a touch screen device.

I really don't think you want a full Mario game on a phone.

If you go for the colored coins on each level of Super Mario Run, the smart level design and the challenge become apparent.

The amusing part is the people who are the most angry about Super Mario Run never even played it enough to see how challenging getting those coins were.

Dear Nintendo.
Create a hardware controller for iPhone, and release all the old games. NES - Wii U. I’ll gladly pay $100+ for the hardwear and $5-$10 a game. Just imagine finally playing Mario cart against your friends, family over iOS.
I love console play, but I honestly never have time. I was really excited for Mario Run. But I hate that it continually runs. I wanted the old fashioned side scroller with left/right controls.

Give us REAL MARIO on iOS and you'll see a different result.
I have zero interest in a Mario game that is "auto jumping" over enemies.

I'm not 3 years old.

I'm not saying there isn't challenge in SM:Run, it's just that perhaps the challenges they created with that version simply don't scratch the itch of enough us lifetime Mario fans.
 
I can see how micro transactions can be useful as they're a constant flow of money, and when added together, add up to more than a large one-time payment. However, as a consumer, I hate them. I hate how in some games, to get this really cool item, you have to pay a bunch of money for it, times several dozen items. That or either wait 30 minutes to continue, or pay $1 or whatever to continue immediately.
 
It's ok, but it doesn't feel much like Mario. On the very surface, it's not bad, and its a polished runner, but there's so many of them that even with a few Mario-esque mechanics, its not the same. I grew bored with it after awhile.

The only games I've really enjoyed on mobile devices have been puzzle and physics-based games, I've not really found any sort of adventure game or platformer that I've seen much replay from.

I had no problem paying for Mario Run, but it's not up to Nintendo standards for me.
