Apple did right. If you wanted 32gb now you can get 64gb at the 32gb price. If you wanted 16gb, you can 16gb at the normal price. Win win.

I was alittle annoyed that they didn't have the 32gb standard over the 16gb but oh well. Got my 6+ in 64gb with no complaints.

I got the 16GB Plus. I honestly don't use that many apps, and over the years I've gotten into the habit of keeping my messages purged and pointless photos to a minimum.. Oh yeah & I use Spotify as well for music

You neat freak, you...:D

What rate do the subsidized phones pay per line versus the NEXT'd phones?

The final amount you pay for the phone actually works out to relatively the same amount at the conclusion of your two month contract.

I have a heavily discounted plan, so my monthly expenses plus a 2 year contract come out cheaper than Next. But many others who don't have the plan I have would save a negligible 100 to 200 bucks after it's all said and done..

Based on preorder #s of all iPhone 6's few were offended by the lineup or price points. No one is forced to buy an iPhone if they think it's a rip. Samsung has done a good job trying to educate consumers of alternate choices. So stay on your high horse and ride out if town.

BTW if it really offends you steer clear of German luxury brands. They nickel & dime customers to death with options as well as sell overpriced option packages with mostly useless items + one you must have. The must have is typically a fraction of the total package cost but they won't sell that one option a la carte.

It depends. With my plan, it would be an extra $25/month ($600 over two years) and then $300 for the phone (total of $900). With Next, I'm paying $750 over two years.

I think I found out that the 10GB+ plans are where you can save a bunch with Next. With the plans with less data, the contract is about even. You just have to do the math on what plan you have.

I upgrade every year. With NEXT it costs only sales tax after 12 months to start a new phone.

On a 2 year contract, after 12 months I think the price up front is almost doubled since you didn't complete your contract.

Something else to throw into the equation regardless of plan.

How many people would of been angry getting 32 instead of the 16?

Plenty of people only need 16GB so let them have that option. The 64GB version costs the same as last years 32GB version so why complain?

If the 64GB version was dropped for the 128GB version people would still complain that the 64GB version had gone.

Yes the 32GB version has gone but for the same money you can get double that, and just because you don't want 16GB because it's not enough for you it doesn't mean it isn't for other people.

If I had connectivity at all times, say in an office, I would go with 16...everything will be on iCloud anyway.

...but since I'm constantly in airplane mode and need things on my phone I'll suffer with the 64gb option I guess!

I doesn't matter what it is, but someone always finds a way to complain about something. Never fails.

I'm sorry if your dreams have been crushed, but that's life.
You're getting the 64GB for $100 cheaper than you normally would. No complaints there.

I was kinda upset when I first heard that 16 was still the base, but then I kinda realized why they were doing it, and planned on getting the 64 anyway, so now I'm saving $100.

What's more appalling, is that they still feel the need to make the free model (now the 5c) only 8GB. Not to mention you only get about 5GB to actually use for yourself. What's the point in having a smartphone if you have to restrict yourself from using it constantly? I get that they're trying to push the other, newer models, and that the 'free' one is purposely supposed to be the lowest end model. But c'mon. It's almost 2015. That extra 8gb won't make or break ya, Apple.

yeah, i will say to me it is the 16GB that is the slap in the face.

I was hoping they'd offer the 32GB as the base OR even do a 16/32/64/128 at 199/249/299/349

BUT I totally understand the point. the 16GB is an easy pick for many on price. offering 32GB for the 16GB price means they (Apple) lose out on the extra money they h pay for the 32GB memory.

I have a 32GB iP4. I was going to get the "middle" option as 32GB was fine and if that was the base and they offered 64 Middle, then that's what i would have bought. the 32GB is a great size but with 64 i don't have to worry as often with videos or apps, etc.

Some of the justifications in this thread are pretty funny!

Anyone who normally buys 32GB could have saved $100 if Apple did the "expected" thing of making 32GB the base model. That's how I look at it, as opposed to me spending the same $299 and gaining and "extra" 32GB ($299 for 64GB). I didn't need the extra 32GB. So while it's nice to have, I would have rather saved $100 and bought the base model (16GB is too little,a nd 32Gb should have been the base).

So instead of me saving money, Apple "forced" me to spend the same amount as last year to get the minimum storage space I want.

I went from 32gb to 16gb now back to 64gb as 16gb is no longer enough.

This is exactly what they are doing, creating a "want" for the 64. Next year it will be 32/64/128. They didn't do that this year because all the current 32 people think they have enough so Apple saw less profit in a lot of people getting the 32 at $199 so they didn't offer it. I'm guessing 32 is the most popular option? Why give that away at $199?

Next year people the new 64 people will realize 32 wasn't enough and things are indeed better with 64 as they will be accustomed to the extra space. They will not or can't go back to 32. Therefore Apple has moved them away from the lowest price option of $199 and to the middle option of $299.

That will be one of the big ohhh ahhh next year.... 32 for only $199 but they will laugh knowing they've suckered most people into 64 at $299.

Good ole' fashion screwing.

Keep the 16GB model at 199 and DOUBLE the 32GB model for the same price to 64GB at 299.

I know Apple is a business and this is obviously to make is seem like you are getting "more for your money" therefore convincing more people to bite the bullet and upgrade to the 299 model when they have been hanging on to the 199 model in the past expecting it to at some point become a starting 32GB standard.

Lineup should read:

199 = 32GB, 299 = 64GB, 399 = 128GB

at the current rates why not:

199 = 16GB, 299 = 64GB, 399 = 256GB ???

Currently: 16/64/128. Majority will pay $299/$399 for 64GB.

Proposed: 32/64/128. Majority will pay $199/$299 for 32GB.

Apple cares about money, why would they put the 32GB as the base? Of course it's a slap in the face. The difference in price for Apple between 16 and 32 GB of storage is not $100. But they can charge that much and gain huge profits off of it.

Just another reason why I hate the way Apple does business.

Yep! Apple didnt force them to do anything.

How about all those 'I keep everything in the cloud' people who would have preferred that the 16GB model drop in price by $100 instead of making the 64GB model the same price as the old 32GB.

You can't please all the people all the time.

The way it is now, Apple has thrown us customers a bone, and at the same time worked out a way to continue to make a nice profit.

Of course everyone knows why they did it, and it sucks to have to pay so much for storage that is so cheap these days. I would've been happy if they had at least bumped the $299 6+ to 32GB. I noticed they offer a 32GB 5s for $149 now.
