Magic Mouse is the worst pointing device in the history of the world. By some margin. Or probably more specifically, the driver is. The only mouse I've ever used that feels like you're chasing the pointer around the screen instead of directing it. It's like a game of pin the tail on the donkey. There are apparently terminal commands that make it behave like an actual pointing device, but the fact anyone should even feel the need tells the whole story. If Cook uses MM daily and doesn't know it sucks then Apple is doomed. Doomed I tells ya.

Well Magic Mouse is the greatest mouse in the whole world.

If you are still living in 2010.

Even if true, Tim Cook wouldn’t have said it to the public, for marketing reasons.

I mostly use the Magic Trackpad (or the trackpad on my MBP when I'm away from home so I don't really have a horse in this race, but a) the Magic Mouse is fine once you learn the gestures, which takes about a minute, and b) the charging port being on the bottom of the Magic Mouse is a non-issue that only people with small minds would take the time to complain about.

When you get the first message on-screen that the Magic Mouse battery is running low:

a. Make a mental note of this
b. Carry on as you were.
c. When you're done for the day, plug the Magic Mouse in to charge.
d. Go to bed when you normally do.
e. The next morning when you get up, unplug the Magic Mouse, and use normally for another 6-12 weeks.

Is this really that hard/inconvenient? Seriously?
No, it is not. Much noise about nothing.
It is not a perfect solution, for sure, but it isn’t a deal breaking also.

and no, the charge port on the bottom is the correct position. every actual designer knows this. it's legitimately the best position given the circumstances. people who keep saying apple wouldn't put it on the front due to aesthetics reasons can't explain why apple put it on the front of the keyboard and trackpad and not on the mouse. maybe if they thought about it for 5 secs, they would know why

I love Apple, but their mice have been terrible for as long as I can remember.

All mice are really. I hac a master I had awful Carpel tunnel. Switched to a Wacom. Now it’s fine.

This looks pretty cool for the Magic Mouse.

As for charging… non issue. 2 min charge for 8 hours. Lunch break = 6 months.

But hey stuff like the charge socket, the notch, Mac mini power button, xdr stand, Mac Pro wheels keep everyone talking about Apple.

You are welcome to MX and Magic mice. I spent years looking for a mouse that was better. And bought loads of them. Some Logitech, some other makes.

I tried the Magic mouse and simply couldn't get on with it. But that doesn't qualify me to have any other opinion on it. Just that it is not for me.

And I've ended up using one of the most basic mice going - a Logitech Pebble. I've actually got three - including one Pebble 2 which can be paired with three machines via Bluetooth.

It suits my style of holding and moving mice. It doesn't have excess buttons that do functions that I always forget about or click accidentally. It is easy to flick the top off and clean. It uses just one AA cell - and works fine on rechargeable. And macOS tells me when its battery is low.

It is thin enough to put in my carry bag without making too much of a bump.

On top of all that, it is inexpensive.

Making a mental note, funny. I'm one of the people who forget why I wanted to go to the kitchen by the time I arrive. Setting the horrible ergonomics aside, using this mouse would be a nightmare for me.

Too bad Logitech mouse doesnt work on Mac OS. It doesnt master the smooth scrolling.
I've had Logic Master MX 2S and 3S since the last maybe 8 years and I see absolutely no problem whatsoever with the smooth scrolling feature.

While the Logitech MX Master 3 is a terrific mouse for the Mac, reports claiming that Apple CEO Tim Cook prefers that mouse over the Magic Mouse are false.

Magic-Mouse-Next-to-Keyboard.jpg

The Wall Street Journal last month published an interview with Cook, in which he said he uses every Apple product every day. Soon after, The Verge's Wes Davis attempted to replicate using every Apple product in a single day. During that day, Davis said he mostly used the MX Master 3, but sometimes switched to a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.

In other words, it was Davis who said he himself used a Logitech mouse, not Cook.

Unfortunately, The Mac Observer misinterpreted The Verge's article and ran a since-deleted story claiming that Cook prefers the MX Master 3 over the Magic Mouse. Mistakes happen, but the false claim has since gained traction on Reddit multiple times, so hopefully this helps to clear up the situation before wrong information continues to spread.

It would be great if Cook did use the MX Master 3, though. Maybe he would love using a mouse with a front-facing USB-C port so much that he would make the Magic Mouse's port finally not be on the bottom. Hey, we can dream!

I'm using Microsoft surface mouse without any additional software installed. Works much better than Apple mouse.

I am a fan of Logitech and have a wireless mouse that is over 15 years old and love it.

Encountered the Master 3S the other day at Microcenter, just no for me. The shape wasn't even comfortable for my small test session, and the extra button locations feel forced, angle of the side scroll wheel is odd, and material quality is just lacking overall.

It Is like Logitech took up where the failed Microsoft Sidewinder mouse from 10 years ago left off.
Logitech makes their mouse to feel comfortable when you use it sitting at your desk. Magic Mouse feels okay when you stand in front of a Mac in the Apple Store.

I love my Magic Mouse. I still have the one with AA batteries. It's lasted longer than any other mouse I've had in my life (Besides my Atari ST mouse with cleanable rubber mouse ball) I also refuse to install ANYTHING Logitech on a Mac because it loves to bring with it so much extra baggage-ware as if I was on a PC or something.

You can use LinearMouse with Logitech stuff and avoid the extra crap https://linearmouse.app/

Twenty five years ago I booted my first Mac, plugged in my Wacom, installed tablet drivers and clicked through the setup, then I unplugged the mouse and put it in a draw. on my fourth Wacom, very happy

I don't get the widespread Magic Mouse hate. You're not meant to grip it like a standard mouse but sort of claw at it and push it around. I find that more comfortable than a regular mouse and it's great for software where you have to scroll in any direction. The touch surface is indispensable for me and afaik nobody else makes a mouse like that. It's the best of both worlds - pointing with a mouse but still being a touchpad for the rest.
