I am discovering that not all iOS 8 devices have iCloud Photo Library as an option.

Until that time, it seems everyone else has a half solution.

What about photo stream? I had to delete a bunch of photos off my camera roll in order to have space for the upgrade, but saw them all in my photo stream before I actually did the update. Now, I dont have a photo stream folder, is that part of iCloud Drive, and I just have to wait for Yosemite to be available?

So opened iPhoto and enable sharing thinking my previously massive camera roll will be downloaded. Nope. Only got about 1 month's worth.

This is my biggest issue with the iOS 8 update. I spent some time searching online for discussion on this change after realizing I could no longer see all my photos under one album.

Being able to see all my photos under one album was a quick and easy way to view all the photos saved on your phone. Now, it requires having to know the year of the photo if it was not a recent photo? Seems very backwards to me and something that I hope will be changed back in the future or with a future Jailbreak.

What I did as a work around it made a new album called "All" then added everything to it. It displays very much like the old photo album did. Of course I assume this won't include photos taken since I made the album.

It just isn't necessary. The last thing anyone wants is managing whats on their device vs. whats in the cloud. That is not how it works any longer, and was not a good solution when it was how it worked with Photostream.

If you delete a photo, you delete a photo. If you keep a photo, you keep a photo. Everywhere.

If you are concerned about storage on your device, there is a BRILLIANT new addition that allows you to optimize space on your device. This offloads every to iCloud and keeps just thumbnails on your device. As soon as you call up a photo or video, it instantly downloads the whole file, much like how iTunes Match works. I would recommend everyone do this.

And that's exactly why this doesn't work for me. If I save an image from tumblr or a screenshot, my husband doesn't particularly want it cluttering up his photo album. I used to be able to clear it from photo stream and keep it on the phone where I needed it. Now it's all or nothing and that doesn't suit every image you own.

Actually it does...you can create albums or move the photo to an album, if this is must for you. Then it can be deleted from the main library.

It is far better to make the user work to do something atypical, then to make them work to make sure photos and videos a properly backed up to the cloud.

Lastly, iCloud accounts are not meant to be shared among two different people. That is not a flaw.

I hated the photo collection, and only ever used camera roll or photo stream, so this new setup is for me nothing but a major cluster ****! And mixing photo stream in with your recently added, c'mon, that's just ridiculous! I'm all for change, but when you take giant steps backwards, it really grinds my gears! ;)
Hoping for a quick fix...

That works pretty good to recreate the camera roll. How can you add other photos to it after creating it?

I is not.
But how do I delete a Photo lets say just from my iPhone without deleting it from the cloud as well? Deleting a photo from "recently taken" alway deletes it from "everywhere", it even says so in the warning-message.

And why is the sorting so weird?

what the heck, i havent updated yet but that sounds HORRIBLE.

hey, i want to manage whats on my device and whats on my cloud. i dont need every stupid little screenshot i take to be stored in the cloud. its redundant
the whole thing sounds like a huge clusterbeep, especially to people like me who dont care about albums and what not. i always just left everything in the camera roll which i synched to iPhoto once a month in an album called "synched on xy". It already pissed me off in the past when i synched a album to facebook using iPhoto. Once i deleted it from iPhoto to save space on my macbook it also deleted them from facebook.

My temporary solution:
Under settings, I just turned off Photo Stream (but kept Photo Sharing checked). Now I know that everything in my Photos folder is actually on my device. I can delete photos without deleting them from Photo Stream.

But I still have Photo Sharing checked, so I can manually put photos into an album that will automatically download to iPhoto on my Mac.

It's not ideal, and it's very frustrating, but at least that gives you some measure of control while Apple sorts out this mess.

I don't think you can. But I suppose between that and recently added you will be good for a while then you can recreate the All album again.

I'm getting photos from my son's iPad on here now (same account).

Also getting stupid photos I uploaded to Yelp and then deleted from my phone.

Really, really annoyed by this.

Why 'fix' it if it's not broken?!?

I think we only see photo stream on other devices. I don't like when I delete a photo from my camera roll it automatically deletes from my photo stream. So I think your photo stream is what is on your phone :(

Ok, so if I update my ipad to iOS8 photos i take on my iphone 6 and go to the cloud will be photostreamable on my ipad?

How do you add photos through the FB app if they aren't in the recently added album, since the camera roll album is gone???

Wow, what a regression of functionality this has been.

I love change, but this change is one for he worse.

I never got the whole photo sharing bit. Seriously, what family wants to share more than a few specific photos. It's like the Family Sharing feature they touted...the last thing i want is my phone cluttered up with the goofy pics my HS and MS kids take.

That's exactly what happened to me. My kids' iPads are on my account so we can share apps, etc. But now all their silly SS's and selfies are on my iPhone. I'm not a happy camper. I'm going to turn off all the photo sharing on them and hope it fixes this irritation, but I'm very disappointed with Apple deciding Camera Roll isn't important to anyone.

You can. Just select the photos you want to add and click "Add to". Then select the folder you want to add them to. In this case the newly created All folder.
