I mean the names. What if they end the iMac, iLife, iWork lines and create a new consumer desktop line and integrate iLife and iWork, just referring to them as their app names?

Damn. I didn't think about iTunes, though, which they'll probably never change.

im calling it now, theyre going to replace the imac line with something else. redisgned and essentially the same thing, but with a renamed product

All in one software/hardware combo called MacLife? :D

I say good too, I want to see some Mac Pro updates!! Yeah baby! Screw you iMac! j/k

I'm a Graphic Designer who uses an iMac every day, and it's quite sufficient for running Creatuve Suite. Is it for heavy rendering or intensive FCP use? No, but I'd still consider what I do "professional use."

iMacs are dandy but you seem to have a sandy.... j/k!

Nope - the latest updates to the iMac occurred in January, July and September of 2006. January was Intel, July was the educational model and September was the latest update.

Nonetheless, an update is defintely overdue - let's hope it's a major one!

Didn't Steve announce the 24" iMac with a Sept. ship date at WWDC in August of last year? That's around 273 days ago............
I know, WWDC last year was a little more than that though.

Well, I guess this can be seen as good news as it increases the chances the Mac Pro will be updated there. They definitely need to add 2gb min. of ram since the MBP has it. Increase the video card and then hopefully add the 8 core processor across the board on all models.

I'd expect a top-of-the-line iMac to have the 4-core ... I think the 8 might be pushing it ... and yes, 2 GB RAM minimum fo' sho'

iPhone development being more important, I think we can all wait 'til Apple decides the time is right for a new iMac.

My guess? Rolled out with Leopard as a vehicle to show its best features.

What about massivve investments in Desktops!

So what does everyone think the, "come see the massive investments in Desktops at WWDC" that was quoted by Steve Jobs when questioned about the future of the compter line at Apple, is all about?

Do you think we are going to see an all new Mac Pro system, displays, and GPU's?

Maybe the Octo was just a quick update system so developers could test new features and the real new Mac Pro is about debut.

I do not see an update anyway until they have the new LED screens. I do not expect them until the MBP 17 are ready. Im sure the 17 MBP screen and the 20 & 24" iMac screens will be costly to add LED to.

I think the new iMac will be introduced at an special media event just like when the first iMac with iSight was announced (together with the 5g iPod).

This time it could be together with the iPhone. Or when it's later this year probably with the 6g iPod.

Appleinsider is reporting that Apple is unlikely to update the iMac at the Worldwide Developers Conference next week.

Rumors of a "late June" iMac update with "striking new industrial designs" have been circulating around the internet over the past few months. It appears users will have to wait a little longer. Our Buyer's Guide reveals that the iMac was last updated 273 days ago, with an average update cycle of 168 days.

Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference kicks off next week on Monday, June 11th with a keynote speech. Apple is expected to focus on
iPhone during the keynote and reveal the "top secret" features that were alluded to at last years WWDC.

Live text and photo updates will take place at MacRumorsLive.

i fixed it for you.

Minitower, 4 core max, 2 HD bays, 4 GB RAM max, 1 optical drive, 4 USB, 2 Firewire 800, etc etc

Positive vote. WWDC should be about Leopard, how to integrate with new iLife, how to integrate with new iWorks, maybe how to create widgets for the phone, etc.

There is plenty to cover no need to muddle the waters.

I hope so my friend.
I look forward to the real update MacPro.
I was never expecting the iMac. I don't remember that Apple ever announce anything computer wise at WWDC.

Besides, I am really looking forward to the iPod 6g. but I think that will happen only in October.:(

well duh!

WWDC has characteristically been for Pro line items. Thing that would be geared to umm developers.... Thats where the D in WWDC comes from.:D

I don't know.. but this WWDC seems like it might be a yawner... i mean the whole thing to be devoted to Leopard only? I suppose they'll talk about the whole iPhone devoloping tools too, but it just seems like an hour/ hour and a half keynote about Leopard/iPhone OS is going to be sort of boring... maybe I'm wrong cuz i'm not a devoloper. So devolopers out there... is an hour and a half duable for those 2 things?

You are not the target for WWDC, developers are. For them, this will be one of the most exciting WWDC ever.

A snoozer to you and an exciting party for developers.

Good, iMac is not for pros anyway.

What pros?

I'm running two companies using iMacs, and they do the job just fine.

You probably don't have software to use 4 or 8 cores properly anyway, and I bet you don't work that fast yourself either. ;-)

I've been a Nintendo fan all my life, and if there is one thing I've learned, it is REACH FOR THE SKY AND GET YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT HELMETS ON!

No kidding (see my first post) ... I've even run Creative Suite QUITE nicely on 2nd Gen. Minis ... and 800Mhz G3 iMacs for that matter!

Mac Expo Paris

It seems reasonable that the new iMac would debut in late September in Paris. This seems to be a more appropriate event for this. It also would likely be close to Leapard time, so the timing might work out well.

This leaves a lot of us (who are waiting for the new IMac) hanging for a very long time though, but this seems logical to me given all that is going on at the moment.

The other downside is that there would be a 3 month period between iPhone and the iMac upgrade. Not sure what they could fill that time with if the mini goes away as also rumored.

Late September also works well for the next gen iPod......

Is Apple is loosing it's edge?

I feel like Apple is loosing it's edge. iPhone and Leopard are all great...still no MacBook Pro or iMac redesign and I'm not sure what to make of AppleTV...it seems like they are too much focused on the iPhone...still hopeing for something grand next monday!

Not surprised. But with such long periods since the last update (for this AND the Mac mini), what can we expect?

Are they getting rid of the iThing entirely?

No more iLife or iWork?

Changing to a different scheme? About friggin' time!

The iThing has been around for so long that it's kind of like an apple trademark, it's a way to describe things that are sleek shiny smooth etc.

I think that maybe if they are going to do some magor product line change with the Mini and iMac then they should either

Upgrade the Mini a great deal so that it's not a piece of crap, take it closer to the preformance level of an iMac

Or remove the Mini from the product line and broaden the preformance level of the iMac so that it covers lower preformace levels than now and higher

Why are you *developers* so hard on all us iMac users???

I immediately thought the same thing too. As much as I was looking forward to a new iMac, I can see the rationale behind waiting: have the iPhone get some legs underneath it; let all you developers ;) get comfortable with Leopard; and then as Leopard's release is imminent roll out the new iMac as the perfect companion to the iPhone, Leopard and new, upcoming iLife.

Oh yeah, on top of the new mac pros and leopard preview you developers will be getting haven't you figured out that SJ's one more thing will be the multi-touch work surface that plugs into your new mac pro to augment (not replace) mouse/keyboard usage? You guys will have 4 months to develop all the code for that bad boy and figure out how to use it in your programs... OK - get to developing!

:) :D :p ;)
