Like you said: It's still best-looking laptop in the market. And if it ain't broken, don't fix it. True, MBP's have had their share of the problems, but they aren't really due to the design. They could fix the various issues while leaving the appearance as it is.

To be honest, the design is not only getting old but it also is not that functional.

The MacBook looks more modern and is a lot more functional.

AL MBP Design issues;

1) Looks like a RAZR
2) HDD difficult to service
3) Dents, scratches, and attracts smudges
4) Shields WiFi signals
5) No docking port on current design
6) Little metal clasps on latch too fragile, Mag clasp like MB is better
7) Keys are too easy to accidentally pop off and too tapered.
8) Too much wasted space below keyboard.
9) Needs two mouse buttons or functional multi-touch pad.
10) Keys still smudge display screen.
11) ABS plastic, carbon fibre, housings are more durable and lighter.
12) Silver is sooooo 2000.

Do you need more reasons. Sure some of these are minor but if I am going to spend $2500+ on a laptop, I want a state of the art design.

Apple can do better. They just haven't focused on this product in awhile.

I do agree with you to an extent but it may be old but it still looks awesome. Definatly best looking laptop on the market but the overall engineering and desing IS getting old.

NOOOOOOOOOOO WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! It seems like i may never buy my iMac.... Maybe i should just go to the dark side....

I agree with you.
Macbook pro still very good looking.
I think that's why Apple hasn't changed the designs of the MBP, displays and MacPro. They still good after all.
Maybe next year we will see a totally new design for the professional line.

With iMac and MBP technology going hand in hand, I think we'll see an iMac update at the same time. We're long overdue, and Apple knows it.

Also, a small bump for the MacPros might be in store as well ... 8-core update happened not that long ago, after all. Expect at least standard 2 GB RAM to be intro'd and maybe a better/diff. graphics card availability.

i sure hope so and here's the reason. I'm hoping to get a iMac cheap after the new ones have been released. After the new Macbook Pros were released my local futureshop was offering the older ones for 300 bucks off. Im hoping the same thing will happen with the iMacs.

Could someone finally tell me why we need a MBP redesign? Is there something wrong with the current design? No there is not. It still looks great and it makes the machine easily identifiable. Hell, Thinkpads have been basically unchanged since they were released! And they users still love them.

Personally, I think the current MacBook Pros are horribly ugly, nowhere near as nice as the TiBooks (which I am an owner of). I disagree with the "best looking laptop on the market" idea... I think Sony has some very nice Vaio laptop models, as do a few other Japanese computer makers.

As well, I hate the hinge. I know that people aren't fans of the TiBook hinges, but after seeing a couple MacBook Pros in action, I trust the hinges on my TiBook far, far more than those on the AlBook.

Unless you can't resist the new iMac...

I'm sure they will be discounted. MacMall and a bunch of other online sellers have done the same thing historically, including with the new MBPs and MacBooks.

Going Nuts trying to switch!

I never thought trying to switch from PC to Mac would drive me nuts, but it is! I've had my eye on the 24" iMac, 2.16Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250Gig HD, 256K VRAM since Dec. I held out until the "original" Leopard target in March. That got delayed, so then was holding out until WWDC because of rumored upgrades.......I'm sick of waiting!

If Jobs doesn't show us a sample of the new design and give us a solid release date on June 11th, my order for the current model is as good as entered. I think it's a solid system I'm targetting, so hopefully my pleasure with the switch from PC to Mac will outweigh any potential disappointment I might have from not waiting even longer........tell me I'm not nuts, please!!!

I am in the same situation. I am ready to switch to the same machine as you (going with a 500Gig HD though), but after reading everything was going to hold out until WWDC. I guess I will be holding out through June, maybe July and maybe August. I want to get moving.

The only problem is that I'm interested in the 17 inch iMac with the superdrive. THe rumours say that this iMac wont be updated. Looks like i might not get the discount after all. Maybe i WILL have to go the dark side with a vista pc. The latest iMacs are a little too expensive for me and the Mac mini doesn't cut it for me.

$900 is too expensive?

What makes the Mini "not cut it" for you?

Buy a lightly used one off eBay?

...whatever it takes to keep you from going to Vista! :D

I'm on the same boat. But my problem is that my current PC broke so I want to make the move to mac because i need a new computer and because i want a mac also. :apple:

I hope that they make mention of something at least. Gives us some information about release dates and specs. like this we have a reason to wait. Or make a decision about buying the current model.

Apple perhaps will use Penryn chips in the new "striking new design" iMacs. I think they are waiting for Penryn. It's either now at WWDC or Penryn.

How about a new iMac that looks like this? Personally I think the brushed metal idea is closest, but this is pretty cool :D

Whatever you do, don't knock into it or tip it over...

I could see something similar to this coming out, just not fully transparent ... the idea of a translucent/transparent bezel is pretty awesome. I think the keyboard/mouse concept is way off base for what might be the next iteration ... but down the road? who knows!

Laa Laa Laa Laa Laaa

I'm not listening.

I really want iMac updates :(

I agree....I refuse to listen...

I'm eagerly waiting to be a "switcher". My Dell is near death, hanging on by a thread and giving me daily "blue screens". I'm well past "ready" to make the switch, but I see the benefit to the faster chipset, more ram, bigger hard drive. I would like to make the best investment, but I don't know if I can wait any longer. This rumor is just like a big punch in the gut...I was so ready to believe the rumor that next Monday I would be ready to buy.

Just remember, it's only a rumor :D

Otherwise, I have a nice G5 PowerBook I'd like to sell you
