It seems reasonable that the new iMac would debut in late September in Paris. This seems to be a more appropriate event for this. It also would likely be close to Leapard time, so the timing might work out well.

This leaves a lot of us (who are waiting for the new IMac) hanging for a very long time though, but this seems logical to me given all that is going on at the moment.

The other downside is that there would be a 3 month period between iPhone and the iMac upgrade. Not sure what they could fill that time with if the mini goes away as also rumored.

Late September also works well for the next gen iPod......

Maybe they'll kill the Mini, and upgrade the iMac soon and then in september release something that will replace the Mini but better

I feel like Apple is loosing it's edge. iPhone and Leopard are all great...still no MacBook Pro or iMac redesign and I'm not sure what to make of AppleTV...it seems like they are too much focused on the iPhone...still hopeing for something grand next monday!

Could someone finally tell me why we need a MBP redesign? Is there something wrong with the current design? No there is not. It still looks great and it makes the machine easily identifiable. Hell, Thinkpads have been basically unchanged since they were released! And they users still love them.

All this crap of chaning things for the sake of chaning them is getting really old, really fast.

So what does everyone think the, "come see the massive investments in Desktops at WWDC" that was quoted by Steve Jobs when questioned about the future of the compter line at Apple, is all about?

New operating-system IS a "massive investment in desktops".

I wasn't expecting an update to a consumer mac at WWDC. Maybe slight updates to Mac Pro 2Gb minimum Ram and lots of talk about Leopard.

Why wouldn't a software Developer want an iMac?
I am a software developer and I rairly fully utilize any system I am programming for/on. If I do then I am doing something wrong. An iMac for devlopers is a good fit. Enough power to do what you need (equlivlant power of a MacBook Pro), Good size screen, Small Desk form factor so there is more room on your desk for visualilizing Logic problems. The Computer is raised off the desk so if you do spill soda it doesn't get in your computer.

The Power Macs with the multible 30" Displays and 8 Core CPU... But what the Software Developer would gain the most is just the fact they can get more text on the screen with the 30" Display.

Do you think they will do A quiet imac update in about three weeks and then the redesign in late Sepember for Paris show? I can't see them doing a new imac design and the iphone for the end of June...How consistent is Apple Insider with these predictions?

eh, I love my iMacs and they are fine the way they are in terms of looks. I think 4gb of ram would be nice with SR

*yawn*

Why would consumer products be intro'd at a developer conference anyway?

I'm more interested in a badly-needed upgrade to the mac mini. I've got a keyboard, mouse, and monitor already... I just don't want a big hulking tower or an all-in-one to replace my jet-engine-sounding PC.

No, it's not. It's an investment in computers.

No need to split hairs. He was asked a question and responded verbally. It's pretty clear from the phrasing of the question and the way he linked "operating system" to "massive investment" that he meant "in computers as opposed to just gadgets".

I'm surprised people think they wouldn't release new iMacs at WWDC -- not only are they perfectly capable machines for developers, aren't you forgetting that developers code for everyone? The entire platform is relevant at WWDC, so it's a perfectly acceptable time to introduce any new computer product, especially one with a radical redesign that may incorporate new features developers need to know about.

And Mac Pros aren't due for an update, but iMacs are desperately in need of one, so I'm surprised there isn't more.. outrage over this.

Mac mini ....

I so hope they update and not drop the mini, its great as an media centre in my bedroom to connect to the netwerk, it fits right next to my eyetv kabel connection .
Than just stream from the network to my regular tv , it needs some better specs do ;-).

As for the redesigning, i like the macbook pro's alot ever since i had my first 12"PB , that aluminum feels so great and solid, i would noty know what would make it better, carbon sounds great but it will feel like plastic again, aluminum is in my opinion the best material at the moment.

As for the iMac, i does noet need one it's a great maschien in my eyes , but well if they would chance it i'm sure it will be super again, i liked the g4 imac's the most of all models imac , but it can always get better ;-).

If people wanna think apple is not on the cutting edge anymore, oh well, what ever .

;-)

I've been a Nintendo fan all my life, and if there is one thing I've learned, it is REACH FOR THE SKY AND GET YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT HELMETS ON!
Post of the Day :D

Good, iMac is not for pros anyway.
Tell that to the 20/24" iMac owners.

Appleinsider is reporting that Apple is unlikely to update the iMac at the Worldwide Developers Conference next week.

Rumors of a "late June" iMac update with "striking new industrial designs" have been circulating around the internet over the past few months. It appears users will have to wait a little longer. Our Buyer's Guide reveals that the iMac was last updated 273 days ago, with an average update cycle of 168 days.

Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference kicks off next week on Monday, June 11th with a keynote speech. Apple is expected to focus on Leopard during the keynote and reveal the "top secret" features that were alluded to at last years WWDC.

Live text and photo updates will take place at MacRumorsLive.
They could just say new iMacs and be over with it. What's so hard to spend 5 minutes on new hardware and then just move on?

I'm working on a Titanium G4 , the current MBP design came out shortly after I purchased my machine, that was four (or five) years ago...so I really wanna buy a new MBP, but it feels like I'm buying something from 2003 ... and I never really liked the current design (even though it's still the best looking laptop on the market by far) and as far as I know it's been having a lot of issues.

I'm thinking that a subnotebook would replace the mini, if anything.

I'm bummed that the iMac has only a slim chance of an update, but then again, what is there to update? The case is fine. A touch-screen would be nice, but can we really see one before 2008? The iMac is a great computer as is, but we all know that Apple shoots for more than just great (usually ;) ). I would love to see an update as much as the next guy, but if not, meh, so what.

Would they really wait until late September for the next imac update?, or is it more likely they will bump the specs in a couple of weeks once the Mac Books pro's are shipping in volume.

Like you said: It's still best-looking laptop in the market. And if it ain't broken, don't fix it. True, MBP's have had their share of the problems, but they aren't really due to the design. They could fix the various issues while leaving the appearance as it is.

I know the Macbook Pro is part of the "pro" line and the iMac is part of the "consumer" line, but at this point with the MBP updates with newer processors, all have 1 FW800 port, etc if you are comparing computers at the same price the MBP def has better technology in it as of right now.

I don't see how Apple will not at least bump up the specs of the current design of the iMac by the end of the month, or even next Tuesday in a press release...

It doesn't take away from WWDC to have a press release put out saying there are higher spec'd iMacs available, it just needs confirmation that they are ready to ship and the release written.

Laa Laa Laa Laa Laaa

I'm not listening.

I really want iMac updates :(
Too bad you won't hear me agree, because I want them too.

Essentially, I want to "get it over with". We're planning our school orders for the next school year, and I don't want our timing to be wrong, taking delivery on new computers that have just become the "old" model. I know that new models come out from time to time, so what we buy will be "old" soon enough anyway, but I'm still hoping to hit that sweet spot in the upgrade cycle.

Ugh, exactly -- what about schools and businesses? The new models are very old, new tech has just been released, and Apple's done nothing to quash the rumors they're certainly aware have been flying about for months regarding a June iMac update. I understand not wanting to give things away if an upgrade really is coming, but if they're not going to upgrade soon, they could at least SAY SO so we can go ahead and order. Total silence doesn't benefit them any more than us.
