Well Ming-Chi Kuo said it, therefore it must be true.
I still don't believe that an Air 3 won't come. It just doesn't make sense to leave the iPad with the most demand (including the pro) with outdated specs. Sure, the A8X is great, but the iPhone having better specs than the iPad? And how about Force Touch? Ok, maybe they won't bring it if history repeats itself, like they did when they put Touch ID into the iPhone and not the iPad. I mean, I thought :apple: were giving the iPad more attention this year. I thought they were trying to increase sales. How can they do that without releasing a new Air?

So it looks like the recent reports that there won't a new Ipad Air 3 this year!! :( :(

A big shame for me because i am waiting for the Ipad Air 3 this fall which will be my 1st ever ipad and i don't really want to buy the Ipad Air 2 as it is neally a year old now.

I really hope there will be a new Ipad Air(3) this year!

What do you think everyone? Are you waiting for the Ipad Air 3? And if there is no new Ipad Air this year what are you going to do? For me if that happens i will be buying the Ipad Air 2 because i can't wait another year for a new ipad air as i really really want to get a ipad!
Just brought an ipad 2 64gb yesterday on ebay brand new, for £300 [+£10 shipping], i won a bid at 1am randomly for an auction in Germany, and i had a 10%ebay voucher. I know i will get good use out of this. If a new ipad is announced in oct, i can sell this one, knowing it will have 9 months warranty left, and most likely still get £300+ for it, which will mean i will roughly break even.

I have done this a few times, if you search long and hard enough, you can pick up bargains on flea bay for brand new items.

Actually, looking back on the article, he doesn't say anything about the Air (nor about the Pro, strange), but the article does say that he didn't say anything. And since the Air and the Pro are even in this article, I'd say the Air 3 is coming.
Here's the link anyway, just in case you haven't seen it: https://www.macrumors.com/2015/07/18/kuo-gold-apple-watch-sport/
Yes the article was not exactly worded very clearly:

He believes a thinner and lighter iPad mini that is essentially a smaller version of the iPad Air 2 could begin shipping at the tail end of the quarter, helping boost overall shipments to 11 million units during the third calendar quarter. Apple's iPad launches typically come in October, however, so shipments may not begin until the fourth quarter. In line with a recent report claiming Apple may not introduce a new iPad Air this year, Kuo does not mention any pending updates to that device. He also does not address the even larger "iPad Pro" that has been rumored to launch later this year

I'd think they'd re-use the iPad Air 2 body and stick a new processor in it at least. Or add haptic feedback like the Watch.

Really hope soo!!!

Most likely Apple will do that instead of not updating the 9.7 inch Ipad this year.

yes end this thread...the real answer is that there is no need for an ipad air 3 when the 2 is the biggest beast of a machine that ever existed and there is truly no need for anyone to want anymore ever in an ipad...the end :)

Speak for yourself, there is defiantly a need for a iPad Air 3 as there are things that myself as well as MANY others want that the Air 2 doesn't have and can't do.

If you look back in history Apple usually releases a new iPhone and iPad each year towards the fall. So it is pretty safe to say they will do the same this year.

If this is true, the 64GB iPad Air 2 LTE that I purchased last year for $100 off was the best investment ever. I already got 10GB of data for 10 months for only $20 from T-Mobile (two 5GB plans for $10 each that last for 5 months each). Generally the iPad 2 and iPad 4 were the longevity models and the iPad Air 2 continues to be the same. iPad 1 was too slow, iPad 3 was underpowered for the Retina display, and the Air has a measly 1GB RAM.

There will be an iPad air3.
Just not this fall.
Apple will release a new mini and the iPad plus/pro this fall.
iPad Air 3 will follow in April/may 2016, together with the new Apple watch and perhaps a new Apple TV ( would love it if they release a new Apple TV this fall, though). the iPad Air 2 was released too soon(or iOS 9 too late). iOS 9 makes full use of the power of the iPad Air 2.

iPad pro will be marketed as new " king of the hill" . By releasing a iPad Air 3, that is just as powerfull , consumer interest will shift.
If you want the latest and greatest iPad pro will be it for at least 6 months.

I have to disagree, I think iPad Pro will be more of a separate branch in the product lineup. iPad Air and mini will still be aimed at consumers, iPad Pro will be aimed more toward content creators, businesses, etc.

In other words, the 9.7 inch iPad will remain the flagship in my opinion, and that sort of has to release before the holidays. If any iPad is getting released in April/May of 2016, it's the iPad Pro, or the iPad mini.

My thoughts are that all iPads will be released together, and it will remain that way.

iPad Air 3 will bring the following, I think. A9X chip with more efficient architecture, 2GB of new DDR3 RAM, improved GPU, improved CPU (same amount of cores) clocked at 1.6GHz. Maybe it could be the first mobile CPU by Apple with 4 cores, but I think 3 will be the new standard for many years to come.

There could be a design refresh, more similarities to the iPhone 6, increased thickness to house a larger battery and get rid of speaker vibration/distortion issues. Force Touch (which includes haptic feedback) would be an awesome edition, but I think Apple might repeat history and bring new technology that came with the iPhone to the iPad after. The camera might be improved, allowing 60FPS video, 240FPS slo-mo, etc. There were rumors the iPad Air 3 would move to an @3x resolution, but I don't think they will do that since the iPad Pro will have that based on leaks.

I am currently waiting for the iPad Air 3. Now, if the iPad Air 3 comes out and it is essentially an iPad mini 3, I will get a DIRT CHEAP refurbished iPad Air 2. The 32GB iPad Air, WiFi only is $389.99 refurbished. I'm assuming the iPad Air 2, 64GB, WiFi only would be the same price. So that would be an absolute steal if the iPad Air 3 is a non-upgrade, like the iPad mini 3.

And OP, I also saw that you have an issue with refurbished products? With Apple, that makes no sense. The battery and the housing is replaced. There is extensive testing on the refurbished device, and you get the full warranty like a new product. Pretty much the ONLY thing that is different, is the box the device comes in. The downside to refurbished Apple products is that it isn't available for the newest model until months after the initial release.

OMG LOOK AT ME EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

Well just wait and see what Apple unveils this September and go from there. It's not like the Air 2 is a crappy tablet. I almost pulled the trigger but I'm waiting. Who knows maybe the Air 2's price will drop?

Already dropped the price at Target and now BB for Rewards Members I believe, $125 off.

Already suggested to the OP to buy one, he can always return it. Not sure one can get any better experience with the Air 2 than hands on trying it for themselves.

You lot can try to convince me to buy a refurbished product all you want but yous lot are failling big time, i am not changing my mind at all!!.

As i said i will never ever buy a refurbished product, i prefer ANY product that i buy to be brand new, untouched and not been damaged!!

A refurbished product is untouched and not damaged.

It's a returned unit which is stripped down and re-manufactured and put through a strict test programme before being resent out to the store. When you get a replacement iPhone or iPad from the Genius Bar, it's a refurbished one. Comes out a sealed plain box with the same front and back protectors (in the case of an iPhone) that a brand new one does.

I'm not trying to convince you to do anything, you do what you please. I'm simply pointing out the facts and highlighting your lack of knowledge.

And IF (and it's a big IF) there is no iPad Air 3 this year I wouldn't be surprised given just how fast, smooth, thin, and light the Air 2 is.

As I said before, the Air 2 isn't a year behind in 2015, it was a year ahead in 2014. Even if Apple actually does nothing, iOS 9 is only just catching up to the hardware in the Air 2.
Best comment in this thread.

Ok but I will not get a refurbished ipad, I will get a completely new ipad that has not got any broken bits or a bit damaged and have been used before.

In fact i will never ever buy a refurbished product in my life!!!!

I purchased a refurbished iPad Air last year and currently have a refurbished iPad Air 2. You'd never know they were refurbished if Apple or someone else didn't tell you. Honestly, I'd only buy a refurb from Apple because I trust that they put their refurbs through the same inspection process as a new product (and they say they do).

Refurbs don't have "broken bits" and aren't "a bit damaged." Lol

I know I laugh when I hear people that say "eww, I wouldn't never buy refurbished". Refurbished is just as good and sometimes even better because Apple has tested them and makes sure they work as they are supposed to. So if you buy "refurbished" you are buying brand new and saving $$$$$ to boot. Now that I think of it ya buying refurbished is not good, lol.

The one concern I have about refurbished models is that in movies, TV shows, and talks with a few actual people IRL, many folks often take their Ipads with them into the bathroom and use while on the toilet!

I have a refurbished Ipad Air, but haven't really used it much, so I won't really bother with any updates for a while, if it all. Only thing I can relate to with your level of passion is the Ipod Touch line... I've been using them since the IpT3, and for the first time ever, I will NOT be getting the next one... the IpT6. Not having a 4.7" screen killed it for me. I've never been more motivated to just stick with a current gen model.

To be fair, the Ipad gets refreshed much more often than the IpT line. Indeed, each iteration there is like 2 for the Iph and Ipads (not Mini).

Assuming there won't be a new Air 3* anytime soon, would you consider getting the Air 2 on account that most people are comfy with using the latest Ipad model for 2 to 4 years anyways? The tech really shouldn't go out of date THAT soon. Besides, you may end up "making the wrong choice" if you wait for the Ipad Air 3, but it ends up not meeting your expectations and preferences.

If you'd like to save some money but have a good tradeoff of up to date stuff (given your willingness to spring right for the Air 3, but just to cover all basis....), the Ipad Air should be available at a good price.

* I'm confused because the former says there could be, but the latter says no, even though the source cited is "sketchy".

Would like to see an upgrade to iPad Air this year. That casing vibration definitely needs to be fixed. iPad Air 2 is really everything I could hope for in a tablet except for the vibration and thin casing.

When you buy a refurbished iPad from Apple they replace and put a brand new outer casing on it. So it doesn't really matter if the previously person was using it in the bathroom and it will have a nice new shinny she'll on it.
