The sites I will be watching will include, but are not limited to

Apple
Mac Rumors
Apple Insider
MacNN
World of Apple
Macsimum News
Thinksecret
Macminute
Macuser

There are quite a few more but I don't feel like listing them all. Several more are foriegn sites that did a really good job last year. Mac Rumors will be my main source.

Anyone have some sites that are a must for MWSF???

Well there you go. A reason for a 30" or bigger screen. :D

Satellite Feed

I am guessing that there is going to be a live satellite feed like there has been for like the last decade or whatever. Since its analog its rather easy to find. You just go before the show and scan the channels on about 5 satellites with a c-band (big dish), or a primestar dish, pointed at the right satellite, using an analog reciever. The benefits of this is that you get to see it in uncompressed analog , almost instantanious, in a quality higher than DVD. Here is the test pattern before the show last year. I gave a play-by play last year with a few screen shots on IRC, can someone tell me the best place to be on IRC for it this year?

Thats it, I need to break down and buy me a C-Band setup...

The Dish?

Buy, No need to buy one, just find someone that isn't using theirs anymore. I got 3 of them dishes for free, with a bunch of receivers for free. It took me a couple days to install it, and about $75-$100 for cement/pole/cable. The benefit after you get it installed is that you can get cable channels ala-carte for about $1 month each, oh yeah, and higher quality than those 18" things.
Last year, I made a VHS of the Keynote, This year its going to be a DVD.

Mac Mini ship date

Not sure this rises to the level of "rumor" material but - I ordered a Mini this morning and while I was placing the order the Apple web site indicated that it would ship in 1-3 days. I paid for overnight shipping because I am somewhat impatient once I've paid for something. To my surprise, when I recieved the email confirming the order from Apple and clicked on the "order status" link it said that the estimated ship date was Jan 10. Any ideas?:D

Aha, this could mean we may (with the emphasis on "may") have new minis on the way! :) I think you might want to submit this to the powers that be at macrumors, they keep track of ship dates people are reporting when they report on rumors.

Who needs a webcast when you score a free pass and work only 5 blocks from the Moscone Center?

Sorry, just wanted to gloat.

Just asking but why on earth would you order a mac mini 5 days before MWSF. Overnight shipping no less! Thats damn near sacrilegious in the mac world:confused: :D

It does seem irrational doesn't it. But I am taking a risk that if Apple really was going to update the Mini then they would either delay shipping (and it would seem that shipping has been delayed) or, if the upgrade was substantial, they would permit an order swap next week if I wanted to do it. Also, I am somewhat impulsive and the Mini is going to be a backup machine in case my PB 17" fails me at a crucial point in my work. And the Mini is so inexpensive that it would be no great loss if things didn't work out. Someone has to keep sales up during the weeks leading up to MWSF, right?

Well now that I thought about it more, if you ordered it Thursday, Jan. 5, three business days later would be Tuesday, January 10. So that actually falls into the original estimate you were given.

I'm not saying there aren't new minis on the way, I'm just saying your order status info doesn't indicate one way or the other unfortunately.

oops. Glad at least one of us can count. My bad.

I'm surprised some people have had problems watching keynotes in the past. I used to manage to watch them on a Performa 6320 (120mhz) via a 36.6kbps modem!

I'm a little depressed over the last few years as i've upgraded to a Powermac and broadband that Apple have decided to cease live keynote streams.

I would gladly pay £20 to watch a live stream. I'm fairly certain a lot of others would pay too. Surely this would cover all the fee's with a fair bit of profit thrown in.

Msnbc

I remember that for the 2003 Macworld Keynote, the Apple stream was to bogged down. Luckily I stumbled upon MSNBC's site, which was streaming the keynote live, in reasonable quality (ironically using Window Media). Maybe we'll come across one of these sites.

So you could then in theory post this info and let us all know so that the international audience could watch as well?

the place we moved into has a dish, no clue if it works, but I would be up for testing it if it means live Keynotes feeds.

PS: this legal or grey area?

can you post the video anywhere while it's going on?

Perhaps as a demo of QuickTime Streaming Server. ;) Seriously, if someone did a live webcast of the satellite feed I'm sure most people would pay a few dollars to get access to it (not sure if there is a way to limit access to specific people though).

I know that if the ibook is updated, I could get it. But, i had a ibook, and i HATE the plastic, and it was really slow. I love the silver on the powerbook, and don't like the white.
P.S.S. I kno this is off topic.

hey dude, it's like red cars. Everyone knows silver laptops are faster than white...

Although the technical differences have been extremely blurred on the iBook and PowerBook lines in recent years, the PowerBook has a faster processor and FSB in it. Making it "faster" indeed.

P.S. Does anybody know of a website that will have Steve Job's keynote webcasted live streaming video? I know that Apple itself isn't doing it, but it's going to be killing me tomorrow morning not knowing what's happening. Even CES last week had a live webcast. If you don't wanna tell everyone on the thread about it, then PM me if you know of a webcast. I don't care if it's bootleg, I just wanna see it.

*throws popcorn bag in microwave*

Ok, it's going to start any minute now!

Here's to the Crazy Ones
