I was just about to type that :) I'll be in Florida on vacation for the Keynote this year, sitting out by the pool with my laptop and credit card in hand ready for any and all new products apple will be announcing. :)
Ugh. :( Lucky.  Well, good for you. Yay! :) :D
If I have a 30 minute slot 1 hour 45 minutes after the keynote starts what would be suggested to do? Read about it on-line? Read about it than watch a bit (would it be available then?)?

the sad part is i have to walk around school that day, checking at lunch and such... pretending like it is a normal day, when for us mac geeks, it is a worldwide holiday.
Yep. Same here.:(
Except for one 30min. slot when my French teacher is letting me and another Mac geek use her new iMac G5.:D Yep, that would be lunch.
I think it's fair to say I will be very distracted at class that day.

ETBU is anti Mac

I wish my teachers had iMacs. My university's IT dept. will not allow professors or staff to have a Mac hooked up to the school's network. I guess they are afraid it would expose how useless the IT department is when you own a Mac!

hahaha all i could think about was when bill gates had the blue screen of death when he presented windows xp...(i think it was xp)

i can see steve jobs now... here is 10.5 for intel... and a big ol' blue screen pops up.. hahahaha oh that would be priceless...

Wasn't that the intro of Win 98 with USB support?

IIRC, they plugged in a USB scanner or printer, orso.... and BLAM.. there was the "Blue Screen of Death".
Gates' remark: "I suppose that is the reason why we are not shipping just yet.."

Must admit:
I have some footage of old(er) Steve keynotes, and there were some hiccups too...
- Crashing Internet Explorer (the browser of their choice) on Mac OS 8.x
- Digital Photocamera out of batterypower while demoing iPhoto
- File Copy race between Mac OS 8.5 and Win NT over the network, and the Mac crashed....

I kno. I've been waiting for less time, but i really want to see powerbooks. I think the problem with updateing the iBook first, the iBook will be a dual core power-machine and the powerbook will be the snail of the Apple line. A mac mini update is almost definite so that will be faster. I'm not a pro user, so I don't mind using rosetta, but if the pros need it ppc compatible, still sell the powerbook for 6 months or something. A lot of people might disagree, but i don't kno what the pros want. I don't know how well rosetta will be, but if it is really good, this might be a bad idea. If it is slow, the pros might prefer that. I don't know. If there are any pros here, can u tell me what u think is better rosetta or ppc?

P.S. I have a powerbook now but am not a pro user. I know that if the ibook is updated, I could get it. But, i had a ibook, and i HATE the plastic, and it was really slow. I love the silver on the powerbook, and don't like the white.
P.S.S. I kno this is off topic.

My brother is a pro user and uses all the crazy photo programs etc that are special that work specifically for pro machines aka powerbook. The new intels with rosetta will supposedly be really fast..............except for the pro programs such as photo shop etc. MY personal opinion is that the current ibooks are pretty good, and with a bit of a boost in a few areas (such as speed and larger standard hard drives) could be fine for a user like myself who doesn't use any pro programs. I'm easy to please, but do hope for some improvement on many mac models. I would expect for you to ssee cheaper faster ibooks at mac world. 1.6gh yonahs with superdrives standard and a 60 gb hard drive. ALL OF THIS STANDARD. The new powerbooks will likely price into the same range as they are now, but will have to meet up to the power of newer professional laptop models. This will likely be a memorable mac world. hopefully for the best.

I also should mention the ibook is rumored to recieve a new design so i am asuming it will be similar but nicer to the current one.
ibooks 800$ and up

powerbooks 1500$ and up

mac minis 500$ and up

I'll have Safari working overtime keeping up with the million and one Mac sites I'll be looking at!
XDD Mind listing a few of those sites??

are u kiddin???? is that a joke?
Nope. No joke. They're doing it live on http://www.macdaily.com and http://www.applenews.info.
Now I might just skip class. :D Kidding, by the way... I'm sort of an... academic person.:p :)

I have to admit that 3,300 is only a theoretical maximum - it is only achievable when the files are extremely small; with a real site it's closer to about 1,500 - 2,000. However, that is per server, and there are 4 servers :D The current record for an event is ~1,300 hits/second, I will be extremely surprised if that's not broken this time.
Please don't ;) The page should update itself every 60 seconds, and I may try and reduce that depending on the load during the event.
Yep, on one page it notes the page will only automatically update once every 3 minutes though. But, you, we're talking about different places so...:)

Yep! I believe this would be the one you're talking about?:

I feel the same as you Yankeefan. I also have a Powerbook, after having an iBook. Its just a better experience, even on my 12-inch which is even less capable than the 15 & 17s. Sure, I might be tempted to buy a 13-inch widescreen iBook, but I treasure the feel and look of my Powerbook 12-inch. I don't want to go back to an iBook. However, the strong rumors that there won't be a Powerbook below 15-inch makes me wonder what I'll do, for I like to update regularly.

I'm thinking, if they have a Core Duo Mac Mini, I might get that to use at my desk with my cinema display, until there is a portable available I want more than my current one.

... I already know how the Intel-based iBook intro will go. Picture the scene...

MWSF conference hall. Steve's already shown the exterior of the iBook, and now turns to the demo unit hooked up to the giant screens...

"Now, let's show you what this thing's like. Let's start from a cold bootup..."

*Steve presses the power button*

Black screen. Then, instead of *daaaah!*, we hear a *beep*. Screen shows:

AWARD BIOS - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. Energy Star compliant

Apple iBook 2000MHz

... all in a glorious 8x8 pixel terminal font.

*audience gasps*... then..

*beep-beep*

No keyboard present. Press F1 to continue.

... audience stirrs ... anger building ... riot police around the edge of the hall get twitchy.

... then ...

Steve laughs hysterically for 5 minutes straight. Audience eventually falls silent waiting for Steve to stop.

Steve: "Oh, you guys! Man, winding you up is like shooting fish in a barrel! Mwahahaa! No, seriously... here's the new iBook"

Screen goes blank. Steve *really* presses the power button this time. Audience then get treated to a completely ordinary, totally expected OS X bootup sequence, albeit with a slightly different, yet infinitely cooler startup chime.

Audience cheers :)
Now that would be absolutely amazing.

From the MWSF website :

12/1/2005 - FRAMINGHAM, MA, December 1, 2005 – IDG World Expo today announced that Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, will deliver the opening keynote address for Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. Macworld will be held at San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center January 9-13, 2006.

And for Aussies, thats 4am (19 hours behind) I believe...

What's the potential DOWNSIDE of doing a keynote and making an error?

What if Steve said something he shouldn't? What if a machine froze?

What if the legal department found some content that could be a liability ('forward looking statements' etc.)

Maybe Apple just balance the plus points of doing a live feed (bearing in mind that it's mostly the Apple faithful that are going to tune in) against the negative risks of screwing up, and that putting off potential switchers or inverstors.

Apple usually turns the keynote around pretty quickly and gets it on apple.com in a day or two. That's enough time to tidy it up and do any necessary editing.
in a day or two? I thought they had done it within hours before. Hmm. Whatever.

They really, really should. Not that I wouldn't pay $1.99. Ok, $2.99.
Okay, $9.99!
Nah. Anything up to $4.99. ;) :D

They're not going to broadcast in the stores. Can you imagine what a mess that would be?

They've done it before. And, while it was pretty full, it was far from a mess. Believe it or not, there aren't that many people who will take time out of their day, miss work/school/whatever, to drive to a mall somewhere to watch a keynote.

Did anyone notice the Windows XP PC at the beginning of last year's keynote?

How rude!:p

I'll echo a question from before: will there be any type of live satellite feed? If so, how would one go about picking it up?

The start menu gives it away.

One could argue I suppose that that is just a small window placed in that corner, but I doubt it. And there isn't a toolbar along the top, so it's not OS X.

You have better eyes than I, lol. I figure they bring in a lot of the production staff from outside Apple so some probably rely on Windows PCs

There are programs that make the menu bar disappear for various reasons (video playback, Keynote presentations, etc.). Or I guess it could just be a TV monitor as opposed to a computer monitor, it's really too small to see what's on the screen.

I don't see Jobs allowing Windows to be any part of the production, unless it had something to do with showing off iTunes or something else on Windows--I don't remember everything that happened at last year's keynote.
