No iPhone 5 today.

Redesigned iPhone 5 today.

I'm 99% sure you're mistaken about this. HSPA+ has not been supported, it's up to 21Mbps down, vs. the ~7Mbps down we have now. In actuality on AT&T the most I've seen is about 4-5 down, but it's great when it's that fast, and a significant jump to HSPA+ speeds will be very, very nice, especially as I tether to my laptop and iPad. :)

No- you're wrong. The Verizon iPhone 4 supports HSPA+ (14.4 Mbps). There is a difference between the capability to do something (ex. a physical part) and seeing real tangible results (ex. 14.4 Mbps+ network speeds). There is no chance we will see data speeds that are 3x (or more in most cases) faster. But, I stand firm in saying that the iPhone 5 will support HSPA+ but it will not be a realistic expectation.

They could redesign it into a shape of an apple and no one would care.
Without LTE, why bother?
And why not release this POS in June and get to work on LTE?

Apple, so innovative in some areas and so behind in others.

I think the truth lies somewhere in the fact they can't control the LTE hardware people to give them the prices they want.

I don't get why Apple would exclude LTE... it is suicide. I've got to iPhone 4 phones and love them, but wish a) they had better battery life, b) they had a bigger screen, and c) wish they had 4G speeds (or at least a fraction of the speed available on AT&T).
First thing you do when replacing a CEO that is as iconic as Steve Jobs is to hit a major product launch out of the park -- dispell any theories/rumors that the company can't go on without him.
If they fail to bring 4G to this phone, EVERYONE is going to question Tim Cook's leadership (and unfairly at that)...

If you want longer battery life, you really do not want LTE. The LTE equipped phones have dismal battery life.

I expected this to be a typical speculation thread, until it turned in to one of the funniest threads I have seen recently. I never knew time zones could be so amusing.

I get the feeling that nobody is gonna be happy after this announcement. We might get the 5, but it won't be 4G.

I believe now this is going be a whole lot of nothing. Just a presentation discussing launch dates of the new iOS and iPhone4s. Oh well.

Yes my cheap ass 150$ android company phone has HSPA+ and twice as fast as the iphone 4 . At least that should be in the iphone 4s .

Look, even the CEO of Hard Candy Cases, Tim Hickman thinks the shape we all saw is for a "New IPod Touch"

http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/04/hard-...-cases-for-ios-device-with-a-4-5-inch-screen/

This explains everything....

Apple sold 20 million iPhones last quarter... at over $600 each.

During that same time Apple only sold 8 million iPods at a much lower price (and no clue how it was divided among iPod Touch, Nano, etc)

Why would Apple make a bigger iPod Touch... now?

Wow! No HSPA+ that would be a shock. So what's going into this thing?

No 4G. It'll probably have HSPA+.

It's ok, everyone. Last night I dreamed that only twelve minutes into the keynote, Apple announced the 4S along with a $9.99 data plan (they are becoming a carrier!) then they proceeded to talk about the 5...

Then I woke up.

And do you know why??

There's not enough LTE Coverage at this time and the Phone spends a lot of energy looking for the LTE Network when it's not there and it kills the battery.

Why do you think most LTE Android Phones have even lousier Battery life???

COME ON APPLE FOOL EM ALL!!

APPLE TV 1080p IOS 5 Upgrade with app shop! BOOOOOOOOOM!

This is totally backwards!

The WWDC event was about iOS5. We don't need two events in four months just to release a OS update.

June was about the Software. Today is a HARDWARE event with some updates to iOS5.

Exactly my point. They already spent an ENTIRE event talking about iOS 5 and iCloud. There isn't much left to talk about.

Granted, Assistant will probably take up 40 minutes of the keynote alone.

But for this event to not be hardware focused would be a huge fail for Apple.

Yeah, fool all those developers you need to fill such a store with apps designed for televisions. They'll be so surprised when we open that empty store they could be selling things in!

They wouldn't.....unless it were to match the new iPhone.

Why? Not everybody wants the latest and greatest. This is a great way for Apple to get people hooked into the iPhone/iPad ecosystem.

An expensive contract with a 2-3year old phone?

now its 150 $ difference between 4 and 3gs, but the 4s will only be 99$ difference? Doesnt really make sense.

Same with to just buy it outright : 650 vs 530, dropping that price to 450 and the 4 somewhere between will not atract a lot of customers to the 3gs . It will be outclassed by 150-200 phones.
