The key is to sell before the next iPhone is announced.

I was able to get $650 for my 64GB iPhone 5 on eBay just a couple days before Apple's September 10th event. Maybe at this point it would just be easier to give it to Apple for credit towards the 5s.

$650 "net" price on eBay? Even after fees and shipping?

When people mention eBay prices they should always give us their real after fees and shipping costs prices.

$650 could be a lot closer to $580 after fees.

And might I add to all sellers meet at a police station!!!

I was selling my iPhone 5 64gb white plus AppleCare. And we met at a carls jr.
He lifted up his shirt enough to show me that he had a gun and took of running with the iPhone "and I wiped find my iPhone from it because I was selling it" so i recommend now police station only!!!

Hate to say it, but you probably deserved it. If you'd just kept the phone and ran away, I doubt he would follow you, especially if you screamed for help.

That's very nice and very bright of you.
Sure, he should have kept it and ran away screaming.
Risk your life over a cellphone hoping that he would not shoot you:rolleyes:

Correct. I received about $555 after all was said and done.

Got an iphone5 today for $350 I'd say it's a pretty good deal. I think the value will go up after the iPhone 5c comes out and ppl realize the iPhone 5 is better and cheaper so it becomes a hot commodity

If you have the AT&T or Verizon iPhone 5, you can get $301-$315 on Gazelle and not have to worry about any potential issues that come from selling on CL.

The best part is your price would be locked in for the next month, so no need to ship until you get your new phone.

Yeah, because I don't have another $700 to spare. I'd rather take my chances (and most likely get away safely) than lose my phone.

I can't manage to sell my iPhone 5 16gb at cl all the offers I am receiving are for $300. How did you guys sell your phones?

There's lots of exaggeration when people brag about iPhone re-sale prices.

The TRUTH is the market is very smart. Every single iPhone will sell easily as long as its priced right. If its not selling you've got to lower the price. Period.

I'm going to enjoy my iPhone 5 for as long as I possibly can.
In fact, I'm of the mind that the iPhone 5 will become more desirable with the new 5C and 5S replacing the 5 entirely. I love the chassis design of the 5 and now 5S, but the upgrades are in my opinion not worth the money.

I've had good luck selling on CL (some buying--bought the BF an iPhone 5 a couple of weeks ago).

  • I always offer to meet at a carrier store so that the seller can verify the phone can be activated.
  • I have a Square, so I can take credit and debit cards. Many people aren't comfortable carrying that kind of cash to meet a stranger.
  • I always keep my original box and accessories, and I throw in the earbuds from my new device so they're not getting the used pair.

I listed my 32 GB white iPhone 5 for Verizon yesterday, but haven't had any responses. It still has two years of Apple Care on it, so that's a selling point. And it's in nearly new condition, with just a couple of small scuffs on the Apple logo. But if I don't sell it, I'll just keep it as a spare. I'm always the guy at work that people ask for a phone when their kid or significant other drops their phone in the toilet and they aren't eligible for a replacement device.

Wow really???

My life is worth more then an iPhone to me. Also he had the phone already he was checking it out like he was buying it, he checked to make sure it was 64gb etc... Then he show me the gun.

I am sorry bro, similar thing happened when I recently went to sell a sealed ipad mini 32gb.

You always think after the fact would the dude be stupid enough to pull a gun in public over a 400-500$ item? but I guess it was meant to be and whatever cause I thought so many different scenarios

Thank you! I'm so Sorry to hear you had a similar experience:(

Yeah I agree there is a lot of things I thought I could of tried doing after the fact.

Last year, one thing i noticed is that 4s prices went up slightly after the 5 release. At least on ebay they did. went down from ip5 announcement to release, then a few days later, crept back up.

If you're ok with getting 300, just go to gazelle or whatever. much safer and almost the same $$$. at least lock it in as a fallback.

You're life is worth $700? Wow... You either have a very low self esteem or you commented before you thought this one through. I think he did the right thing. Second guessing a guy that's stupid enough to commit armed robbery isn't too bright.

I was close to carrying but I don't have a CCW so I thought best not to.

P.S I'm in wonderful gun friendly California /sarcasm

Using a firearm against this guy would have created more of a hassle that just letting him take the phone. Using a firearm regardless of your innocence starts a long and troublesome process. You did the smart thing.
